Class 2A Boys & Girls Basketball Regional Hosting and Bubble Team Outlook

We enter the final weekend of the district tournament, and we key in on the bubble teams still fighting for a spot at regionals and which teams are still in the hunt to host a regional.

Class 2A Boys

District 1

Things for District 1 are very much up in the air.  Custer County, Sanford, Del Norte, and Monte Vista are all in the semifinals.  Custer County, Del Norte and Sanford are all in position to host if they win the District Tournament.  All 3 are also locks for regionals.  Monte Vista greatly improved their hopes for regionals after defeating Cotopaxi on Tuesday.  Monte Vista sits at #26 with Cotopaxi sitting at #25.  Both teams are still considered on the bubble but I believe in good position to make it to regionals.

District 2

District 2 had their semifinals last night.  Wray and Merino both won and they will face each other in the District finals with the winner hosting a regional.  Wiggins will face Holyoke in the 3rd place game.  Wiggins is a lock for regionals sitting at #12 in the seeding index.  Holyoke (22) and Haxtun (23) are also locks for regionals with both sitting inside the top 24 of the seeding index.  Akron sits at #27 in the seeding index and have not moved the past two updates.  A big thing for Akron is they don’t play another game.  They are on the bubble still, but I believe in good position to reach the regional tournament.

District 3

The semifinals have yet to be played in the District 3 Tournament.  But the favorites Mancos and Telluride should advance.  I think regardless District 3 will not host a regional.  Mancos sits at #24 and Telluride #30.  I don’t think either can jump up enough to move into the top 16.  With that said Mancos should lock up a regional spot as long as they reach the District Championship.  Telluride is on the bubble at #30.  Telluride must win their semifinal game against Ridgway.  If they lose that game they will drop at least 2 or more spots.  Telluride reaching the district championship is crucial but a loss to Mancos in the district finals could still put them in jeopardy.  We will have to wait and see what happens with their RPI after tonight’s game.

District 4

The semifinals are set with Heritage Christian, Dayspring Christian, Loveland Classical, and Union Colony Prep all reaching the semifinals.  The only team with hopes of hosting a regional is Heritage Christian.  They sit at #9 in the seeding index and if they win the District would host a regional.  Loveland Classical, Union Colony Prep, and Dayspring Christian are all sitting outside the top 32.  Pretty simple win tonight and keep hope alive for regionals.  Loveland Classical sits at #34, Union Colony Prep is #35, and Dayspring Christian is #38.  We will could eliminate two teams after tonight from regional contention.  Win or go home for the 3 teams mentioned.

District 5

The semifinals are set in district 5.  Vail Christian vs Vail Mountain and Plateau Valley vs Rangely.  Two teams in this district are in position to host a regional.  Vail Christian (7) and Plateau Valley (11) both sit inside the top 16 and if either win this district will host a regional.  Rangely sits at #29 in the seeding index and Vail Mountain sits at #32.  If either can pull an upset they would more than likely punch their ticket to regionals.  If both lose they wait and see their fate especially with no 3rd place game being played.

District 6

Are District Finals are set with Crowley County taking on Holly.  This will be a great game and was a 1 point game the last time they meet.  Winner will host a regional with the loser getting a high seed in the regional tournament.  Good Luck to both teams.  Hoehne vs Fowler is the 3rd place game with both teams locked for regional play.  Hoehne is #17 and Fowler #20.  Las Animas is the next highest Seeding Index at #33.  They have to wait and see what happens same goes for Swink at #36.  Plenty of teams ahead of them still play.  Both would need help to get back to #32.  If you Las Animas or Swink you need Rangely, Telluride, Vail Mountain, Loveland Classical, and Union Colony Prep to not get wins or Elbert to fall with the next Maxpreps rankings.

District 7

The finals are set in District 7.  Golden View Classical will take on Denver Christian.  Golden View Classical is in position to host at #10 if they win they will host.  If Denver Christian wins they sit at #19 and I think could move up into the top 16 especially with all the teams in front of them playing.  Regardless both are locks for regionals.  Front Range Christian sits at #17 and is a lock for regionals.  No other teams are in contention.

District 8

The semifinals take place tonight in District 8.  Limon vs Burlington and Simla vs Evangelical Christian.  All 4 schools sit inside the top 16 of the seeding index so whoever wins this District will host a regional.  Limon sits at #1, Burlington is #14, Simla is #3, and ECA is #4.  All are locks for the regional tournament.  Byers did not make it to the semifinals and fell to #21.  I believe they are still a lock for the regional tournament.  CS School is on the bubble at #28.  CS School cannot help or hurt their movement in the Seeding Index and have to wait and see what happens.  The same goes for Elbert who sits at #31.  They are in much more danger sitting at #31 especially the teams behind them having games remain.

Class 2A Girls

I am not counting Campion Academy so from #17 down I am moving teams up a spot.

District 1

The semifinals are set for District 1 with Sanford vs Center and Del Norte vs Monte Vista.  If Sanford or Del Norte win the District they would host a regional.  Both sit inside the top 16 right now and would only go up if they win the District.  Monte Vista sits at #19 in the seeding index and I do believe if they were to defeat Del Norte and either Sanford/Center they would probably jump inside the top 16.  Regardless Sanford, Del Norte, and Monte Vista are all locks for regionals.  Center is a near lock for regionals at #25.  I do not think they will drop much with a loss to Sanford and I believe in good position to make it to regionals.  Sargent is on the bubble at #29.  They cannot help or hurt their position in the Seeding Index and must wait and see what happens.  Trinidad is also in the mix at #34 and they would need help to jump the two spots to get back into the top 32.

District 2

We all knew this District Tournament could go 1 of 5 different ways and it has.  Wiggins will face Sedgwick County in the district finals with the winner hosting a regional.  The next highest Seeding Index could also host a regional.  Right now that would be Merino at #1 but they face Akron in the third place game.  Merino, Akron, Wiggins, Sedgwick County, and Wray are all locks for regionals and will be extremely tough against whoever they face.  Haxtun is also a near lock at #24.  They cannot help or hurt their seeding index but I believe in very good position to make it to regionals.  Caliche is the final team to mention.  They sit at #31 in the Seeding Index.  All they can do is wait and see what happens behind them.

District 3

The semifinals in District 3 are set with Mancos vs Telluride and Ridgway vs Dolores.  Mancos is the only team inside the top 32 and they sit at #21.  I do not believe this District will host a regional and I believe that if Mancos wins this district no one else gets in.

District 4

The semifinals are set in District 4 with Dayspring Christian vs Union Colony Prep and Heritage Christian vs Loveland Classical.  Dayspring Christian (5) and Heritage Christian (9) both sit inside the top 16 and if they win the district would host a regional.  Both are also locks for regionals.  Loveland Classical is the only other team to mention in this district unless Union Colony Prep wins this district.  Loveland Classical sits at #33 in the Seeding Index and in position with a win to jump into the top 32.  A loss does not eliminate them but they would need help to get into the top 32.

District 5

District 5 semifinals are set with Rangely vs West Grand and Hayden vs Plateau Valley.  Currently no teams from District 5 sit in the top 16.  Rangely (17) and Hayden (18) are both very close and could possibly jump into the top 16 by winning the district.  Both are locks for regionals.  Plateau Valley sits at #24 and they are in position to make regionals.  I want to see what happens with their numbers if they lose tonight but are in solid shape.  West Grand sits at #27 and I also want to see what happens to their numbers if they lose tonight.  There is no 3rd place game in this district.

District 6

The District Championship is set with Hoehne vs Fowler both sit inside the top 16 of the Seeding Index so the winner will host a regional.  These two teams have split on the year so anything is possible for these two teams.  In the third place game Crowley County will face Holly.  Crowley County sits at #28 and Holly sits at #30.  Winner should punch their ticket to regionals with the loser being in hot water and awaiting their fate.  With things so close for the bottom 6 teams winning will be key.

District 7

The District Championship is set with Gilpin County vs Denver Christian.  Both of these teams sit inside the top 16 so the winner will host a regional with the loser hitting the road for regionals.  This will be a great game I believe Gilpin County won by 2 last time they meet.  The third-place game will be Golden View Classical vs Addenbrooke Classical.  This is a very important game for regionals.  Addenbrooke Classical sits at #32 and Golden View Classical sits at #35.  Loser probably does not get into regionals and the winner it just depends.  If Addenbrooke wins they probably punch their ticket to regionals if Golden View wins they will move up just not sure how much.  If you are a team on the bubble this is a big game to watch!

District 8

The semifinals in district 8 are set with Simla vs Byers and Burlington vs Limon.  Simla, Burlington, and Limon are all in position to host a regional if they win this District and all 3 are locks for regionals.  Byers sits at #23 and if they get a pair of upset I could see them jumping a lot of spots I am not sure if it’s enough to get into the top 16 but would be close.  Byers sits at #22 in the seeding index and I believe a lock for regionals.  Evangelical Christian is also a lock for regionals at #21.  Elbert is the final team to mention at #27.  They do not play another game so they just wait and see their fate.
