Class 3A Volleyball Weekly Review and Preview

As we enter the final month of the regular season and get most league play in full swing, we take a look at each of the top league teams that are inside of the playoff bubble. Most of these teams are sitting in safe positions of the CHSAA Seeding Index while others will have to battle the rest of the month to ensure a playoff spot.

City League

DSST: Conservatory Green

The Hornets are currently leading the City League with a 9-8 overall record and a 7-0 league record and are 30th  in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Since the start of the month, the team has managed wins over DSST: Cedar, KIPP Denver Collegiate, and DSST: Green Valley Ranch 3-0. They will look to continue their success as they will play next week against DSST: Montview and DSST: College View on 10/16 and 10/17.

Stat leaders for DSST: Conservatory Green are Carolina De La Torre with 26 total blocks, 17 serving aces, Brennan Wells with 13 total blocks, Litzahaya Arcanjo-Rodriguez with 2 total blocks, 23 serving aces, 112 digs, 62 kills and 171 receptions, Mia Martin with 49 serving aces, 120 digs, and 144 assists, Leah Torres with 178 digs, 15 assists and 204 receptions, Gabrielle Cunningham with 68 assists, and Andrea Griffiths with 74 kills and 121 receptions.

DSST: College View

The Wolves are currently just inside of the playoff bubble, sitting 36th  in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The team is 10-9 overall on the season and are 7-1 in league play, putting them 2nd in the City League. The Wolves have gotten wins over Kenedy 3-1, Rocky Mountain Prep SMART 3-0 and KIPP Denver Collegiate 3-1 in October, but fell to Arrupe Jesuit 0-3. DSST: College View will look to take the league spot in their next game where they will play DSST: Conservatory Green on 10/17.

Stat leaders for the Wolves are Da’Niyah Hickey with 41 total blocks and 92 kills, Allison Navarro with 1 total block, Lesli Chavez with 67 serving aces, 199 digs, 29 assists and 43 kills, Ana Solis with 40 serving aces and 263 assists, Valeria Bracamontes with 27 serving aces and 69 kills, Breanna Ochoa with 15 digs, Janely Hernandez with 9 digs, and Andrea Vargas with 25 assists.

Intermountain League

Alamosa

Alamosa holds the top spot in thew CHSAA Seeding Index with a 16-1 overall record, a 7-0 league record and the top spot in the Intermountain League. The Mean Moose are on a winning rampage, having won their last 13 games in a row, including Pagosa Springs 3-0 and Centauri 3-1. Alamosa will be looking to keep their streak going and will face league opponent Montezuma-Cortez on 10/11 and then they will travel to Wiggins on 10/18.

Leading the stat board for the Mean Moose are Aubrey Rothermich with 47 total blocks, 25 serving aces, and 222 kills, Ashlyn Rice with 23 total blocks, 38 serving aces, 96 digs, and 568 assists,  Kyla Hawkins with 23 total blocks and 110 kills, Laci Christensen with 20 serving aces, 126 digs, 11 assists, 139 kills and 165 receptions, Addison Rice with 220 digs, 35 assists, and 244 receptions, and Kadie Hawkins with 97 receptions.

Bayfield

Sitting 6th in the CHSAA Seeding Index, Bayfield is 11-5 overall, 4-2 in league play and are 2nd in the Intermountain League. Since the start of October, the Wolverines have beat Piedra Vista 3-1 and Montezuma-Cortez 3-1. The team will be looking to keep their winning momentum going and will face Pagosa Springs on 10/14 and Centauri on 10/16.

Stat leaders for Bayfield are Grace Barber with 30 total blocks and 140 kills, Avery Shipman with 19 total blocks, 21 serving aces, 138 digs, and 420 assists, Londyn Hollibaugh  with 15 total blocks, Lauren Rich with 29 serving aces, 222 digs, 40 assists, and 300 receptions, Evelette Hollibaugh with 23 serving aces, 115 digs, and 191 kills, Vivien Clance with 14 assists, 53 kills and 178 receptions, and Maeli Quintana with 136 receptions.

Western Slope League

Gunnison

Gunnison currently has a 10-5 overall record, a 6-0 league record, are 1st in the Western Slope League and are 11th in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The Cowboys are 2-1 in October, beating Roaring Fork 3-0 and Aspen 3-1, but fell to Montrose 0-3. Gunnison will be looking to add more wins to their records and will play league opponent Grand Valley tonight and Basalt next week on 10/16.

Leading the Cowboys’ stat board are Rose Kowal with 50 total blocks, 22 serving aces, and 90 kills, Maya Petrie with 37 total blocks, Roxie Uhrig with 28 total blocks and 22 serving aces, Addison Claus with 30 serving aces and 147 assists, Ruthie Lock with 22 serving aces, 88 digs, and 161 receptions, Aubriel Loken with 199 digs, 29 assists, and 321 receptions, Aubrey Welfelt with 120 digs, 161 kills and 152 receptions, Natalia Sabino woth 202 assists, and Kaya Burnett with 61 kills.

Aspen

Aspen sits behind Gunnison at 2nd in the Western Slope League with a 4-1 league record, a 13-4 overall record, and at 9th in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The Skiers beat Coal Ridge 3-0 to start off October but has fallen to Battle Mountain 0-3 and Gunnison 3-1 since. Aspen will look to change their luck and get some wins as they face Vail Christian on 10/14 and North Fork on 10/16.

Leading Aspen on the stat board are Andrea Lee with 18 total blocks and 109 kills, Ava Braley with 9 total blocks and 140 assists, Mary Morse with 7 total blocks, 53 serving aces, 89 digs, 98 kills and 98 receptions, Belle Sinclair with 55 serving aces, 183 assists and 77 kills, Elena Creamer with 36 serving aces, 144 digs, 34 assists, and 223 receptions, and Autumn Sherwin with 83 digs and 164 receptions.

Metro League

Prospect Ridge Academy

Prospect Ridge currently holds the 1st place spot in the Metro League with a 13-1 overall record, 5-0 league record and are 8th in the CHSAA Seeding Index.  The Miners have won their last six games in a row including St. Mary’s Academy and The Academy 3-1. The team will be looking to keep their winning streaking going and will play Denver Christian on 10/14.

Stat leaders for Prospect Ridge Academy are Molly McLemore with 22 total blocks, Alessandra Erramouspe with 14 total blocks, Brianna Bransom with 7 total blocks and 89 kills, DeLaney Ash with 48 serving aces and 251 assists, Genevieve Forsman with 38 serving aces, 161 digs, 19 assists, and 229 receptions, Brook Luhmann with 34 serving aces, 73 digs, 112 kills and 105 receptions, Ceira Trinta with 67 digs, 79 kills and 147 receptions, and Hannah Karpowich with 91 assists.

Forge Christian

Forge Christian has a 14-3 overall record, a 6-1 league record are 2nd in the Metro League, and are 4th in the seeding index. The Fury are currently on a 7 game win streak with recent wins over Kent Denver 3-0, Stargate School 3-0, and Peak to Peak 3-0. Forge Christian will be looking to hold their rankings and will place Wellington next week on 10/14 and Aspen on 10/18.

Leading the teams stat board are Maddie Saba with 25 total blocks and 104 kills, Auburn Bohall with 17 total blocks, Abby Nance with 14 total blocks, 58 serving aces, 98 digs, and 420 assists, Addison Davis with 25 serving aces, 131 digs, 19 assists, 154 kills and 238 receptions, Finley Queen with 25 serving aces and 101 kills, Bella Geypens with 92 digs, 26 assists and 196 receptions, and Charlotte Bisque with 156.

Tri-Peaks

Lamar

The Thunder are 10-3 overall on the season, 7-0 in league play, 1st in the Tri-Peaks League, and are 12th in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Since the start of the month the team got wins over Banning Lewis Academy 3-0, Limon 3-1 and Fowler 3-1 but fell to Vail Christian 2-3. Lamar will look to continue getting wins added to their record and will play Manitou Springs on 10/14 in a league game.

Stat leaders for the Thunder are Lisette Frias with 45 total blocks, 30 serving aces, and 109 kills, Mae Shelton with 27 total blocks, Abygail Gonzales with 21 total blocks and 348 assists, Addy Krug with 22 serving aces, 210 digs, 143 kills and 158 receptions, Tatym  McTaggart with 20 serving aces and 9 assists, Keiton Chavira with 238 digs and 283 receptions, Addy Krug with 210 digs, 143 kills and 158 receptions, Alyssa Postma with 136 digs and 123 receptions, and Aleesia Salcedo with 8 assists.

The Vanguard School

The Coursers are 9-4 overall on the season with a 5-1 league record, are 2nd in the Tri-Peaks League and are 15th in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The Vanguard School is on a three game winning streak, beating Manitou Springs, La Junta, and James Irwin all 3-0. The team will try and continue their success and will play Sangre de Cristo, Custer County and Swink on 10/11.

CSML North

The Classical Academy

TCA is on a 3 game win streak, beating Pueblo County 3-0, Falcon 3-1 and Elizabeth 3-0. The Titans are 13-2 overall, 5-0 in league play , 1st in the CSML North Legue and round out the top 10 in the seeding index.  The Titans will be looking to keep their success going and will play Sand Creek in a league game on 10/13 and Sierra on the road in a league game on 10/14.

TCA stat leaders are Aubrie Renn with 25 total block and 89 kills, Katie Gieske with 21 total blocks and 32 serving aces, Ashlyn Delaney with 20 total blocks, 166 kills and 87 receptions, Caylee Somersalmi with 41 serving aces and 53 digs, Miranda Campos with 36 serving aces, 68 digs, 64 kills and 95 receptions, Avery Jager with 60 digs and 353 assists, and Addy Macha with 9 assists and 123 receptions.

Patriot League

Eaton

Eaton is 2nd in the CHSAA Seeding Index with a 14-1 overall record, a 8-0 league record and are 1st in the Patriot League. The Reds have won their most recent games over Strasburg 3-0 and Chatfield 3-1 and will be looking to keep their 14 game winning streak alive when they face Liberty Common on 10/14 and Platte Valley on 10/16 in league games.

Leading the Red’s stat board are Addison Corder with 28 total blocks, Railey Maske with 20 total blocks, Madi Smith with 14 total blocks, 24 serving aces, 101 digs, 213 kills and 168 receptions, Skyelyn Lefever with 33 serving aces and145 assists, Trinity Salberg with 26 serving aces and 251 assists, Hayden Logan with 137 digs, 34 assists, and 163 receptions, and Chloe Crider with 115 digs, 104 kills and 117 receptions.

Resurrection Christian

Resurrection Christian still holds their perfect 14-0 record with an 8-0 league record, 2nd place in the Patriot league and 3rd in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The most recent wins for the Cougars have been over University 3-2 and Weld Central 3-0. The team will look to keep their perfect record in tact and will play Starsburg on 10/14 and Fort Collins on 10/15.
