
Class 3A Wrestling Week 1 Review and Week 2 Preview

Week 1 Review
Week 1 brought us a medley of wrestling action for 3A teams across the state. Let’s take a deep dive into a few of the tournaments from week 1. Noting team results and some of the individual performances.

Buena Vista Demon Duals
Centauri
Centauri delivered the most complete 3A performance of the tournament. Marco Medina (106) went 3–1, including two falls. Erik Garcia (113) finished 2–1, highlighted by a 17‑0 tech fall and a pin. Noah Chavez (126) went 2–1 with two falls. Caden Casias (132) dominated at 3–0, all by fall. Konner Horton (138) went 3–0 with two falls and a major. Aiden Knecht (144) finished 3–1, earning two falls and a decision. Noah Weyers (150) was outstanding at 4–0, earning two tech falls and two pins. Spencer Smith (190) went 3–0 with two falls and a decision. Aaden Quintana (285) swept heavyweight at 4–0, recording three falls and a tech fall. Dorian Quintana (215) was equally dominant at 4–0, with three falls and a major decision. Centauri would win the Demon duals.
Florence
Florence had several strong individual performances. Mikey Cornella (106/113) went 3–1, earning two pins and a tech fall. Justin Suddeth (132) finished 3–1 with two pins and a tech fall. Moses Behnam‑Rondon (157) went 2–1 with a fall and a decision. Anthony Hall (165) went 1–1, staying in with a fall. Oliver Sebes (175) posted a 2–1 record with a major and a fall. Aden Webb (285) went 2–1, earning two falls before losing to Aaden Quintana. Damion Schaffer (215) went 1–1, staying in with a fall over Connor Knezel. Florence’s top wrestlers produced steady bonus‑point wins.
Salida
Salida’s scoring came from a powerful middle‑upper‑weight core. Cal Hill (144) dominated at 4–0, all by fall. Samuel Johnson (157) went 4–0 with three falls and a major. Jacob Johnson (165) finished 2–0 with a tech fall and a pin. Jessi Wilkins (175) went 3–1, highlighted by two falls.
James Irwin
James Irwin had several wrestlers. Braylon Vargas (126) was one of the tournament’s best at 5–0, recording four falls and a decision. Aiden Ramos (138) went 1–1. Dominick Pastrana Perez (144) finished 3–2, earning two decisions and a fall. Jacob Davis (150) went 1–1 with a fall. Noajh Barnett (157) went 1–1 with a fall. Anderson Kuczkowski (215) went 1–1, earning a fall over Henry Horne.
Bennett
Bennett had a strong performance overall. Daniel Jordan (120) went 3–0, all by fall. Liam Sanchez (126/132) finished 4–0 with three falls and a tech fall. Caycen Scholz (138/144) dominated at 5–0, recording multiple tech falls and pins. Mormon Jordan (150) went 3–0 with two falls and a tech fall. Tommy Cearns (157) posted a 3–0 day with two falls and a tech fall. Dylan Rutledge (175/190) went 2–1 with two falls. Victor Herr (285) was excellent at 3–0, all by fall. Bennett would finish third as a team.

Greeley West Duals
Eaton
Eaton delivered one of the most complete performances of the entire event, stacking bonus‑point wins across nearly every weight they entered. At 106, Vince Lara went 2–1, with a fall over Teague Fetzer. Braxton Smith (113) was outstanding at 4–1, piling up three falls and a major while controlling every match he won. Louden Kindsfater (126) finished 2–2, with a fall over Bentley Licht. Eaton’s best work came in the middle weights, where Parker Wickam (132) rolled to a 4–0 day with two falls and a tech fall, and Dylan Paris (144) added a 4–1 performance with three falls and a major. Haydn Lebsack (150) contributed a 3–2 record with two falls. At 175, Paxton Pettinger dominated at 4–0, recording three falls and never being threatened. John Mahaffey (190) rounded out Eaton’s effort with a 4–1 showing that included two falls and a major. The Reds were efficient, physical, and consistent — exactly what you expect from a team built for February.
Holy Family
Holy Family showed strong depth and toughness throughout the lineup, with several wrestlers putting together productive days. Nester Pino (106) went 3–2, earning two falls and a major. Tyler McCracken (113) was one of the most dominant wrestlers in the entire tournament, finishing 4–0 with three falls and a decision. At 138, Nathan Brandenburg posted a 3–2 record. Eli Lobato (165) delivered a 3–1 performance highlighted by two falls and a major. Jake Pounders (157) added a strong 4–1 day with a major and a fall. Heavyweight Brooklyn Jaquez (285) went 2–1.
Platte Valley
Platte Valley had a handful of wrestlers step up with gritty, bonus‑point‑heavy performances. Teague Fetzer (106) went 1–2, with a fall over Evan Bloom. Cayde Fetzer (113) finished 2–2, with a fall over Dominick Fanjoy. At 132, Kash Kling went 1–2, with a fall over Simon Shrestha. Miguel Contreras (150) delivered one of the Broncos’ best outings, going 4–1 with two falls and a major. Jermey Vanderploeg (157) went 2–3, with a fall over Jayson Batalla. At 175, Baudillio Modesto finished 2–1, with a fall over Hugo Kohman‑Kulisiewicz.
Week 2 Preview
Now a few places where we have a grouping of 3A teams wrestling this coming weekend.
Western Slope Showdown – Montrose CO
3A Teams attending: Alamosa, Basalt, Bayfield, Bennett, Coal Ridge, Delta, Florence, Gunnison, Holy Family, Moffat County, Montezuma Cortez, Mullen, North Fork, Rifle, Steamboat Springs, Strasburg, and Valley.
Quite the group of 3A teams attending as well as a few other 2A teams, should be a great tournament.
Pueblo East Invitational – Pueblo East High School
3A teams attending: Centauri, Fort Lupton, La Junta, and Lamar
Several other tournaments but these have the biggest groupings of 3A teams.
