Class 1A Girls Basketball Regional Predictions

Regionals are here and it’s win or go home time.  Reaching Regionals is one of many steps for teams looking to reach the State Championship.  To reach the state tournament is simple.  Win your Region and you will go to the State Tournament. 8 regions and 8 teams advance to the State Tournament.  Remember this is just my opinion, we are doing this for fun, and we are not cheering against any team.  We know all the hard work that each team has put in to reach this point.  Good Luck to all 32 teams!

Region 1 at McClave

#1 McClave over #32 Deer Trail

#16 Granada over #17 Kim/Branson

I think the #16 vs #17 game will be a good one.  Two teams looking to take their shot at the #1 team in the state.  I don’t see McClave being upset in the first round.

#1 McClave over #16 Granada

McClave has proven to be a top team all year and will look to get to state.  Granada will have to play their most complete game to try and pull the upset.

Region 2 at Caliche

#8 Caliche over #25 Peetz

#9 Cheraw over #24 Mile High Academy

I think both matchups have some intrigue to them.  I could see both teams giving the higher seed a close game but also look for the top seeds to get ready for the next days games.

#8 Caliche over #9 Cheraw

It could be one of the best matchups in the Regional Finals if this happens.  I have had both Caliche and Cheraw ranked at some point in the season and this is two teams who both want to get to Greeley.  I believe it could go either way in this game and one to keep an eye on, especially since their Regional Finals is Friday!

Region 3 at Stratton

#4 Stratton over #29 Primero

#20 Genoa-Hugo over #13 Flatirons Academy

I think Genoa-Hugo vs Flatirons Academy could be a fantastic matchup.  Both teams have been tested all year but I think Genoa-Hugo tough schedule helps them pull the upset.

#4 Stratton over #20 Genoa-Hugo

A league rivalry matchup could happen if Genoa-Hugo pulls the upset.  I think regardless of Stratton will be the favorite in the matchup and their state tournament experience will make a difference. 

Region 4 at Fleming

#5 Fleming over #28 Lone Star

#12 Idalia over #21 Weldon Valley

Lone Star and Weldon Valley are the two lower seeds and both will try and shock everyone if they can pull the upset.  They are each facing a team who has been ranked at some point this season.

#5 Fleming over #12 Idalia

This could be another amazing matchup in the Regional Finals and should be IMO a matchup that should be happening in Greeley.  Both teams have good victories throughout the season.  Fleming has already defeated Idalia twice this year with an average margin of 15 points.

Region 5 at Eads

#2 Eads over #31 Miami-Yoder

#18 Kit Carson over #15 Denver Jewish Day

Kit Carson vs Denver Jewish Day intrigues me the most from this opening round regional.  Kit Carson was defeated in league play but played a brutal schedule and are battle tested.  Denver Jewish Day did not play the toughest schedule but will hope to give Kit Carson there best shot.

#2 Eads over #18 Kit Carson

Eads is playing some of the best basketball in Class 1A and look for them to advance.  This is a rematch from the regular season with Eads getting the 20-point win.  It’s always tough to beat an opponent again so look for this to be a good matchup.

Region 6 at Prairie

#7 Prairie over #26 Cheyenne Wells

#10 Springfield over #23 Cotopaxi

I don’t see either high seed being upset in the opening round.  I think both Cotopaxi and Cheyenne Wells could push Springfield & Prairie but both Prairie and Springfield are playing good basketball.

#7 Prairie over #10 Springfield

In My Opinion the best matchup of the regional finals if it happens.  Two teams who have been ranked at some point this season and two teams with plenty of top talent to try and reach Greeley.  I look for this to be a great matchup, and this is where home court could make a difference.  Remember this regional final will be on Friday!

Region 7 at Evangel Christian

#3 Evangel Christian over #30 South Baca

#14 Flagler over #19 Hi-Plains

Flagler vs Hi-Plains should be one of the best Opening Round Regional Games.  Flagler defeated Hi-Plains by 16 back in early February and both schools will look to take their shot at the #3 team if they can win. 

#3 Evangel Christian over #14 Flagler

I think the winner of Flagler vs Hi-Plains will give ECA all they can handle.  If it’s Flagler I am putting ECA on upset alert! Flagler lost to ECA on 2/27 by just 4 points and once it’s regionals things are much tougher to beat a good team a second time!

Region 8 at Nucla

#6 Nucla over #27 De Beque

#11 Briggsdale over #22 Creede

I don’t see either high seed being upset in the first round but it could happen if they overlook either of the lower seeds, but have proven they can capitalize.  Both high seeds know a battle is brewing in the regional finals!

#6 Nucla over #11 Briggsdale

This is the matchup I have gone back and forth on.  I think either team can win and I expect this to be a great matchup.  Briggsdale is more battle tested playing a tougher league schedule and schedule in general.  Nucla lost to 2A #6 Plateau Valley by 10 a few weeks ago and that was the last time they were challenged and how do they bounce back.  This is the matchup I will have my eye on.
