Class 2A Girls Basketball Regional Predictions
Regionals are here and it’s win or go home time. Reaching Regionals is one of many steps for teams looking to reach the State Championship. To reach the state tournament is simple. Win your Region and you will go to the State Tournament. 8 regions and 8 teams advance to the State Tournament. Remember this is just my opinion, we are doing this for fun, and we are not cheering against any team. We know all the hard work that each team has put in to reach this point. Region 1 at Merino
#1 Merino over #32 Custer County
#17 Center over #16 Byers
I think the #16 vs #17 game will be a good one. Two teams looking to take their shot at the #1 team in the state. I don’t see Merino being upset in the first round.
#1 Merino over #17 Center
Merino is my pick to win this regional. Merino has a ton of post season experience and regardless of who they play will be the favorite.
Region 2 at Akron
#8 Akron over #25 Soroco
#9 Rangely over #24 James Irwin
Both higher seeds will be favored in their matchups. Soroco and James Irwin will look to pull big upsets in the opening rounds. Akron and Rangely neither won their final game of the season and will both look to get going in the right direction.
#8 Akron over #9 Rangely
It could be one of the best regional final games in Class 2A Girls. Two teams I have had ranked multiple weeks in the Class 2A Rankings. I think the differences in this game will be Akron has been battle tested nearly every week and should help them prepare for an intense regional finals game. Also, it could be the second straight year Akron and Rangely meet in the regional finals!
Region 3 at Sargent
#4 Sargent over #29 Vail Mountain
#20 Hoehne over #13 Loveland Classical
Sargent will be heavily favored in the opening round but cannot overlook Vail Mountain. Loveland Classical vs Hoehne is going to be a great matchup! Hoehne has been a State Tournament team for 3 straight years and look for them to take their shot at the regional host.
#4 Sargent over #20 Hoehne
Two teams with State Tournament experience and both looking to advance to Fort Collins. I do think whoever wins between Hoehne and Loveland Classical will give Sargent a good test, but Sargent should be ready to make the push to state.
Region 4 at Sedgwick County
#5 Sedgwick County over #28 Ascent Classical
#12 Calhan over #21 Gilpin County
Both higher seed teams will be favored in their matchups. Sedgwick County could look to build a quick lead and get some rest to their starters. Calhan could be challenged early by Gilpin County. Both teams press so who handles it better will advance.
#5 Sedgwick County over #12 Calhan
Sedgwick County vs Calhan could be a great matchup in the regional finals. Sedgwick County has been tested most of the year and should have them poised to push for Fort Collins. Calhan has also played their fair share of regional teams and will look to pull the upset.
Region 5 at Simla
#2 Simla over #31 Golden View Classical
#18 Las Animas over #15 Dayspring Christian
Dayspring Christian vs Las Animas will be one of the best opening round matchups. Both teams ended the season strong. Las Animas has a ton of momentum heading into regional winning the Santa Fe.
#2 Simla over #18 Las Animas
Simla is playing great basketball right now and they have not been tested since February 14 when they picked up a 3-point win over 1A #1 McClave. Simla should be poised to make a deep run, but whoever wins on the other side should challenge Simla.
Region 6 at Heritage Christian
#7 Heritage Christian over #26 Campion Academy
#10 Holyoke over #23 Caprock Academy
Holyoke vs Caprock Academy could be a very interesting matchup in the first round. Also, I am very intrigued with Campion Academy. Can Campion Academy test Heritage Christian?

Here is the first upset I am picking in the regional finals. Holyoke vs Heritage Christian should be a great matchup. Holyoke ended the season on a strong note picking up a win over Akron. Heritage Christian also ended the year strong winning 8 straight games since their 49-32 loss to Sedgwick County.
Region 7 at Sanford
#3 Sanford over #30 Ridgway
#14 Swink over #19 Trinidad
Swink vs Trinidad should be an interesting matchup in the opening round. If Trinidad can push the tempo and cause turnovers, they could possibly pull the upset.
#3 Sanford over #14 Swink
Sanford vs Swink if it happens would be an interesting matchup. Sanford has the tradition and looks to build off how they finished this year. Swink is looking to punch their ticket to state. Two different styles will clash in this matchup.
Region 8 at Plateau Valley
#6 Plateau Valley over #27 Mancos
#11 Del Norte over #22 Dove Creek
Del Norte vs Dove Creek has the potential to be a great game of the opening round. Both teams ended the year with a win and have momentum. I do think Del Norte has enough defense to defeat Dove Creek, but I am expecting a great game.
#6 Plateau Valley over #11 Del Norte
Here is where the traditional upsets seem to happen the #6 vs #11 seed. I will be very interested to see if Del Norte can pull the upset of the #6 seed. Del Norte plays very well defensively but can they get enough scoring to pull it off. Plateau Valley must take care of the ball against Del Norte and avoid giving up the easy points to advance.
