Class 2A Volleyball Weekly Review and Preview

The Volleyball season is in full swing, with many teams having already participated in several games and/or tournament play over the weekend. This week we examine our top 16 teams and see what their records are starting to look like, opponents they faced, players who are rising to the top of the stat boards, and who each team will play during the next week.
Wiggins
Wiggins starts their 2026 season off with a 4-0 record, getting wins over Flatirons Academy 3-0, Liberty Common 2-0, McClave 2-1 and Vail Christian 2-0. The Tigers will be looking to continue the success they have found so far and add some more wins to their record during the next week of play. The next game for Wiggins will be at home against Lyons tonight to end the week. Next week, the team will play only one game against a tough Merino team on 9/1that will be on Wiggins’ floor.
Sedgwick County
The Cougars kick off the start of their season 4-0. The team has been able to get 3-0 wins over Briggsdale, Wray, Haxtun and Weldon Valley so far this year and will be looking to continue their winning streak as their games continue next week. On 9/4 the team will travel to McClave to try and get a win over the Cardinals.
Dolores
With only their first game played so far this season, the Bears are currently sitting 1-0 with a win over Pagosa Springs 3-0. Dolores will be looking to add their second win to their record tonight as they hit the road to take on Monticello. To wrap up the week, the Bears will host Bayfield on 8/28 and then games will resume for the team again at the end of next week on 9/3 against Nucla.
Lyons
The Lions have started the season 1-1, losing their first game against Forge Christian 1-3 but getting a win over Ascent Classical Academy 3-0. In these two games, stat leaders that are rising for the team are Michaela Coleman with 4 total blocks and 26 kills, Greta Gadbaw with 1 block and 21 assists, Anabelle Hay with 1 blocks, 4 serving aces, 16 kills and 6 receptions, Carmen Dumbauld with 10 serving aves, 14 digs, and 47 assists, Poet MacKinnon with 4 serving aces and 3 assists, Audrey Voss with 21 digs and 15 kills, and Anna Mason with 1 reception. The team will be looking to add another win to their record tonight when they go on the road to face Wiggins. Next week the team will host Peak to Peak to start off the week of play.
Vail Christian
The Saints start their season off with a 2-1 record. The team was able to get two wins to start their season over Simla 2-1 and Flatirons Academy 2-1, but lost to Wiggins 0-2. The team will start league play to end this week and into next week. Their first game will be against North Fork on 8/29 on the road and then next week the team will host Vail Mountain on 9/1. Leading the team on the stat board are Ryan Baron with 8 blocks, Stella Hawkins with 7 blocks and 11 kills, Michelle Teague with 6 blocks, 14 digs, 21 kills and 51 receptions, Camden Allen with 5 serving aces, Tenley Brasington with 4 serving aces, 66 assists, Sam Bates with 3 serving aces, 28 digs, 1 assists and 42 receptions, and Mary McClarrinon with 14 digs, 28 kills and 39 receptions.
Merino
The Rams were able to win their first game which was against Peetz 3-0. Merino will be looking to continue adding wins to their record and will play in tournament play this weekend on 8/29. The teams first game will be against Caliche, and then Merino will play Holyoke and Fleming to wrap up the weekend. Next week, the Rams will go on the road to play Wiggins on 9/1.
Centauri
The Falcons were able to come out of their first game of the season with a 3-0 victory over the Lamar Thunder. During that game, some of Centauri’s players started to make their appearance on the stat leaderboard. These players are Kimbry Wilfong with 4 blocks and 3 aces, Rylie McCarroll with 3 blocks, 3 aces, and 8 kills, Braelyn Shawcroft with 2 blocks, Kenadie Wilfong with 3 aces, 7 digs, and 35 assists, Lauren Gallegos with 9 digs and 14 receptions, Analynn Dwyer with 5 digs, Kynlei Curtis with 2 assists, 11 kills and 13 receptions, Kaylee Smith with 2 assists and Paityn Sowards with 4 receptions. The Falcons will be looking to continue adding wins to their record and will be on the road to face Montrose on 8/29 to end the week.
Evangel Christian Academy
ECA is off to a 2-0 start to their season after getting 3-0 wins over Pike Peak Christian and Kiowa during the last week of play. The Eagles will be looking to continue this streak as they wrap up this week and head into next by hosting Eads on 8/29. Stat leaders for the team after two games are Alyssa Costain with 3 blocks, 4 aces, and 41 assists, Olivia Christensen with 3 blocks and 10 kills, Kate Hatzel with 2 blocks, Mia Castro with 7 aces, 17 digs, 13 kills and 21 receptions, Ellie Wagner with 6 aces, 13 digs, 3 assists, and 18 kills, Bailey Roberts with 16 digs and 19 receptions, Abbey Roberts with 2 assists, and Lucy Atkins with 10 receptions.
Yuma
Yuma did not start their season off like they hoped and are currently 1-0 to start 2026. The teams first game was against Sterling, which resulted in an 0-3 loss for the Outlaws. The team will be looking to recover from the loss and add some wins during the next week of games. The next game for the team will be at home against Weldon Valley on 9/28 and next week the team will go on the road to play Sidney on 9/1. Stat leaders so far for the team are Taryn Sheffield with 1 blocks, 7 digs 4 kills and 10 receptions, Berkley Nighswonger with 1 ace, 8 digs, 3 kills and 18 receptions, Lindsey Hermosillo with 7 digs, 3 assists, and 12 receptions, Aubrey Black with 4 assists and 3 kills, and TaLynn Korf with 2 assists.
Heritage Christian
The Eagles are currently 4-1 on the season after getting a 2-1 win over Highland to start the season, then beating Loveland Classical and The Pinnacle 2-0 and getting a win over Frontier Academy 2-1, but falling to Windsor Charter Academy 0-3. With a lot of games played during the last week, Heritage Christian will take a few days off and then resume play again at the end of next week when they take on Briggsdale on 9/8. Stat leaders for Heritage Christian are Caleigh Smith with 3 blocks, 13 aces, and 91 assists, Annabelle Loucks with 10 aces, 33 digs, 2 assists, 57 kills, and 47 receptions, Eden Perea with 2 blocks, Claire Swiers with 2 blocks, Julia Fotsch with 9 aces, 33 digs, 11 assists and 65 receptions, Bathany Phillips with 21 digs, 26 kills and 39 receptions, and Partha Bor with 13 kills.
Flatirons Academy
The Bison kick off their season 1-3 so far after a rough 0-3 start to the season. The team lost their first game to Wiggins 0-3, then fell to Vail Christian 1-2 and Simla 0-2. The team was able to recover and find a 2-0 win during their last game that was against Liberty Common. Flatirons Academy will be looking to get some momentum rolling in their favor and add more wins to their record during this next week of play. The next game for Flatirons Academy will be on the road today against Highland and then on the road to start next week to Ascent Classical Academy. They will then host Byers on 9/3. Stat leaders for the Bison are Sydnie Mangel with 9 total blocks, Lexi Richman with 3 blocks, 8 aces, and 77 assists, Everly Haynes with 3 blocks, 6 aces, and 46 receptions, Addie Hovis with 3 aces, 13 digs, 1 assists and 28 kills, Brooklyn Nelson with 26 digs, 4 assists, and 36 receptions, and Claire Friedman with 17 digs, 17 kills and 52 receptions.
Ignacio
The Bobcats won their first game of the season last night, getting the win over Del Norte 3-0. This is a good start for Ignacio and they will be looking to continue their success and adding wins to their record as they continue play during this next week. Ignacio will host Antonito on 8/28 and then they will host Olathe next week on 9/3.
Holyoke
Holyoke won their first game of the season last week against Idalia 3-1. Tonight the Dragons will be looking to keep the winning streak going and adad another win to their record as the go on the road to face Brush. On 8/29, the Dragons will then play Fleming, Merino and Caliche, some tough opponents that Holyoke will be looking to get wins over. Next week, the team will rematch Caliche outside of tournament play for a chance at either protecting their win or redeeming a loss. Stat leaders so far for the Dragons are Raia Sprague with 4 blocks, 17 digs and 16 kills, Claire Hubbard with 2 blocks, Aubrey Bieber with 1 blocks, 10 assists and 4 kills, Reese Steggs with 2 aces and 15 digs, Emy Goldstein with 1 ace and 3 kills, Lia Sprague with 1 ace, 13 digs, and 12 assists, Frida Taglioli with 5 assists, Sujey Bustillos with 11 receptions and Vanessa Marroquin with 9 receptions.
Buena Vista
The demons start their 2026 season off 1-1 after losing their first game to St. Mary’s 1-3 and then beating Lake County 3-1. Tonight the team will host the Salida Spartans and will be looking to add another win to their record. Next week, Buena Vista will host Center on 9/3 for the teams first league game of the year. Leading the Demon’s stat board so far this season are Taylor Williams with 4 blocks, 18 kills and 17 receptions, Bella Speckman with 4 blocks, 6 aces, and 7 kills, Ashlynne Goodwin with 2 blocks6 aces, and 22 receptions, Liz Molitor with 5 aces, 11 digs and 16 kills, Penny Bearess with 14 digs and 28 assists, and Macy Reevis with 13 digs, 1 assists and 31 receptions.
Sanford
The Mustangs are off to a 2-0 start to their season after getting the 3-0 win over La Veta during their first game and them beating Gunnison 3-0 after. Sanford will be looking to continue their momentum and keep adding wins to their record as they play in tournament play to end the week. The team will face Peyton and Soroco on 8/28 and the Cedaredge on 8/29 and possibly other teams depending on outcome of the games. Next week the team will play their first league game on the road on 9/3 against Del Norte.
Highland
Highland is currently 5-1 overall on the season. The team was able to win their first two games, beating DCA 3-1 and Rocky Mountain Lutheran 2-0. They then lost to Heritage Christian 1-2 but was able to recover and beat The Pinnacle and Loveland Classical 2-0 and Prairie 3-1. The Huskies will be looking to continue winning as tonight they host Flatirons Academy. Next week, the Huskies will host Lyons on 9/3. Stat leaders for Highland are Isabella Tiley with 4 blocks and 23 kills, Madi Smith with 4 blocks and 34 kills, Leah Vara with 3 blocks, 14 aces, and 105 assists, Jordan Taylor with 18 aces and 26 digs, Annabelle Crider with 16 aces, 49 digs, 5 assists, and 61 receptions, Malia Boudreau with 23 digs and 38 receptions, Peyton Swyers with 4 assists, Sophia Martinez with 19 kills and Ryleigh Wares with 28 receptions.
