Class 3A Softball Weekly Review and Preview

We’re entering the main part of softball season this week and most teams are starting to enter league play and are getting fully into the swing of things.  This week, we review the top 16 teams in 3A based on CHSAA Rankings as of 9/9.

D’Evelyn

The Jaguars still have their perfect record intact, sitting at 5-0 after beating Green Mountain yesterday 5-2. The team is also 2-0 in league play, are sitting 2nd in the Jeffco league, and are 1st in the CHSAA Rankings. To wrap up this week of play, D’Evelyn will play in a tournament starting on 9/11 and will go into 9/12 and will face teams like Mountain Vista, Eaglecrest, and Brighton. Stat leaders for D’Evelyn are Myla Seda with 4 home runs, 12 runs, 10 hits, and 13 RBI, Hallie Book with 3 home runs, a 477 ERA, and 13 RBI, Macie Allen with 1 home run and 12 hits, Caludia Harris with 6 stolen bases and 10 runs, Lyla Nagy with 6 stolen bases and 11 runs, Myla Vigil with 4 stolen bases and 14 RBI, and Calista Hinestroza with 9 hits.

Lyons

The Lions also have their prefect record still, sitting at 9-0 overall, 1-0 in league play, they are sitting 1st in the Patriot Peaks league and are 2nd in the CHSAA rankings. The most recent wins for Lyons were against Platte Valley 15-0 and Berthoud in a league game 11-3. The team will be looking to keep the winning streak alive and will take on Wellington on 9/1o in a league game and next week the team will kick off games by hosting Eaton in a league game on 9/15. Leading the team on the stat board are Dahlia Oviatt with 3 home runs, 7 stolen bases, 20 runs, 17 hits and 21 RBI, Ava Vasquez with 3 home runs, 8 stolen bases, 21 runs, and 17 RBI, Gretta Wynja with 3 home runs and 20 hits, Ella Martinez with 10 stolen bases, Emerson Riley with 21 runs, and Greta Hildebrand with 17 hits and 19 RBI.

Brush

After beating Platte Valley yesterday ion a league game 11-1, Brush is now 9-2 overall on the season with a 2-0 league record, are 1st in the Patriot Plains league and are 3rd in the CHSAA Rankings. The Beetdiggers will play in tournament play this weekend to try and get more wins added to their record and will play TCA and Severance on 9/11 and then will play Wellington on 9/12. Next week, the team will play league games and will take on Sterling on 9/15 and Strasburg on 9/16. Stat leaders for Brush are Addy Neal with 1 home run, 6 stolen bases, 13 runs, and 7 RBI, Gracie Martinez with 1 home run, 6 stolen bases, and 12 hits, Haedynn Epple with 1 home run, 12 hits, 9 RBI, Sidney Miller with 4 stolen bases, Isabella Mesch with a 1.21 ERA, 17 hits and 14 RBI, Emry Chard with a 2.68 ERA, Elizabeth Peckham with a 4.32 ERA, and Wyleigh Kimball with 11 runs.

University

The Bulldogs are 10-3 overall after getting wins over Strasburg 20-8, Southeast Colorado 11-1, and Elizabeth 15-5, and falling to Eaton in their first league game 7-10 to give them a 0-1 league record start. University sits 4th in the Patriot Peaks league and are 4th in the CHSAA Rankings. To wrap up this week, the team will play Peak to Peak on 9/12 and then next week they will go on the road to Wellington on 9/15. Current stat leaders for the team are Kenny Peconi with 3 home runs, Bergen Durate with 2 home runs, 14 hits and 18 RBI, Olivia Williams with 2 home runs, Emma Zacheis with 11 stolen bases, Kamzee Kern with 5 stolen bases, 18 runs, 14 hits, and 15 RBI, Lucia Libretti with 4 stolen bases and 15 runs, Aubrey Luera-Smith with a 3.41 ERA, Lily Marquez with a 4.83 ERA, Hannah Ramseier with a 5.86 ERA, and Kenzie Wyatt with 15 runs, 20 hits, and 13 RBI.

Berthoud

The Spartans are 10-3 overall on the season, 0-1 in league play, currently sit 5th in the Patriot Peaks league, and are 5th in the CHSAA Rankings. Over the weekend, the team was able to get wins over Silver Creek 15-2, Meeker 21-0, Montezuma-Cortex 11-0, and Roosevelt 7-3. Yesterday, the team fell to Lyons in their first league game 3-11. The team will be looking to bounce back and get a league win before the end of the week and will play Eaton on 9/10. To end the week, Berthoud will go on the road and will play Strasburg on 9/12. Leading the Spartans stat board are Carys McGuinn with 3 home runs and 16 RBI, Alana Lukensow with 3 home runs, 6 stolen bases, 22 runs, 23 hits and 18 RBI, Camryn Olivas with 2 home runs, 17 runs, 23 hits and 25 RBI, Kiley Brinkman with 10 stolen bases, 18 runs, and 19 hits, Phoebe Hollander with 3 stolen bases, Addi Kisselbach with a 1.47 ERA, and Madi Giera with a 4.29 ERA.

Strasburg

Strasburg is 8-3 overall on the season with a 1-0 league record, and are 2nd in the Patriot Plains league. The Indians lost last weekend to Severance 5-9 and University 8-20, but was able to beat Greeley West 8-3 and start this week off with a league win over Weld Central 12-0. Tomorrow the team will go on the road to Sterling to play in another league game and then to end the week the Indians will host Berthoud on 9/12. Next week, Strasburg will go back on the road and will play Valley in another league game on 9/15. Team stat leaders for the Indians are Phebe Johnson with 4 home runs, 8 stolen bases, a 6.76 ERA, 14 hits and 18 RBI, Addi Kent with 3 home runs, 10 Stolen bases, 20 runs, 22 hits, and 18 RBI, Payton Weaver with 3 home runs, Calleygh Hougland with 12 stolen bases,  Taylor Bequette with a 4.87 ERA, Macy Meyer with a 13.80 ERA, Wynne Winter with 21 runs, Madi Olsen with 15 runs, and Morgan Sharff with 14 hits and 14 BRI.

The Classical Academy

TCA is currently 4-2 overall on the season after falling to Widefield 0-7 but beating Florence 15-3. The Titans will be looking to add more wins to their record to end this week before heading to league play next week and will play in tournament play this weekend, facing Brush and Platte Valley on 9/11 and Sterling on 9/12. Next week, the team will host Elizabeth on 9/14 in the first league game of the year. Stat leaders for TCA are Ava Fluegge with 1 home run, a 4.42 ERA, 11 hits and 13 RBI, Ada Wilson with 5 stolen bases, a 5.60 ERA, and 10 hits, Rilee Sanson with 3 stolen bases and 9 runs, Taytum Kimbro with 3 stolen bases, 12 runs, 15 hits and 12 RBI, Basil Murphy with a 3.60 ERA, and Ashlyne Cramer with 7 RBI.

Lamar

Lamar is currently 8-3 overall on the season with a 1-0 league record and are 2nd in the Tri-Peaks league. The Thunder are on an 8 game winning streak, thanks to wins this past weekend over Pueblo Centennial 6-3, Forge Christian 4-1, Boise City 16-1 and Falcon 6-3, and a win yesterday over Rocky Ford 10-4. Lamar will be on a small break for the remainder of the week but will resume games next week and will look to add another win to their record when they travel to Limon on 9/15. Stat leaders for the team are Daisy Medina with 2 home runs, Sierra Esquibel with 1 home run, 17 runs, 14 hits, and 11 RBI, Carlin Weber with 1 home run, a 3.76 ERA, 19 hits and 14 RBI, Yahirett Roman with 3 stolen bases, Alexus Campbell with 2 stolen bases, 14 runs, and 14 hits, Jayla Kirkland with 2 stolen bases, and Braelinn Panaflor with 10 runs.

Forge Christian

The Fury are 8-2 overall on the season, 1-0 in league play and are currently 2nd in the Pioneer league. Last week, Forge Christian was able to get wins over The Academy 10-3, Boise City 17-1, Holyoke 10-0 and Wray 12-1 but fell to Lamar 1-4. After several games last week, the team was able to take some time off this week and will resume games this weekend on 9/12 when they go on the road to play a double header against Southeast Colorado. Next week, the Fury will host Jefferson on 9/15 in a league game. Leading Forge Christian on the stat board are Julianna Alfaro with 1 home run, a 2.75 ERA, 16 runs, 22 hits and 16 RBI, Maxine Rossi with 10 stolen bases, 17 runs, 15 hits and 14 RBI, Lauren Rivera with 6 stolen bases, Vivan Stults with 5 stolen bases, and Honor Kuyper with 15 runs, 15 hits and 15 RBI.

Wellington

Rounding out the top 10 teams in the CHSAA Rankings is the Eagles. Wellington is 6-5 overall on the season with a 1-0 league record and are 2nd in the Patriot Peaks league. Last week, Wellington beat Peak to Peak 21-1 and Conifer 10-2, and then this week the team got the win over Resurrection Christian 13-6. The Eagles will play in several games to end the week and will start off with league opponent Lyons on 9/10, and then they will face Denver East and Platte Valley on 9/11and Brush on 9/12. Next week, games will kick off for the Eagles at home on 9/15 as they host league opponent University. Stat leaders for Wellington are Reganne Johnson with 4 home runs, 21 hits and 17 RBI, Camryn Strain with 3 home runs, 6 stolen bases, and 17 runs, Audrey Larson with 2 home runs and 14 RBI, Charley Somday with 12 stolen bases, 18 runs, and 19 hits, Kiley Newberry with 8 stolen bases, London Morgan with a 10.38 ERA, and Scarlet McGuire with 18 runs, 19 hits and 13 RBI.

Resurrection Christian

The Cougars are currently 6-3 overall on the season with a 0-1 league record and are 6th in the Patriot League. Since the start of the month, Resurrection Christian got a win over Valley 702 but lost to league opponent Wellington 6-13. The team will be looking to add more wins to their record to wrap up the week and will play tournament play, facing Mullen and Limon on 9/11 and Douglas County and Golden on 9/12. Next week, the team will host Yuma on 9/15. Stat leaders for the team are Portia Hattig with 1 home run, 5 stolen bases, 19 runs, and 17 hits, Kylee Kramer with 1 home run, Taylor Francis with 7 stolen bases, 19 runs, 21 hits and 16 RBI, Hannah Nicholson with 3 stolen bases and 12 RBI, Jailah Hamilton with a 6.21 ERA, and Brynne Murawski with 16 runs, 14 hits and 14 RBI.

Elizabeth

Elizabeth is 6-6 overall on the season after falling to Windsor 0-16, Palmer Ridge 10-20 and University 5-15, and snapping the losing streak with a win over Sand Creek 16-3. The Cardinals will take the weekend off and resume games on Monday when they take on TCA on the road in the first league game of the season. Leading the team on the stat board are Allie Dey with 8 home runs, 4 stolen bases, 20 runs, 23 hits, and 26 RBI, Larissa Wesbrook with 4 stolen bases, 13 runs, and 14 RBI, Charli Kugler with 4 stolen bases, a 7.15 ERA, and 15 hits, Grace Carlson with a 12.72 ERA, 14 hits and 8 RBI, and Makayla Wilson with 12 runs.

Valley

The Valley Vikings are 9-2 overall so far this season, 1-0 in league play, and are 3rd in the Patriot Plains league. After falling to Resurrection Christian last week 2-7, the team was able to get wins over Limon 20-12 and Sterling in a league game 11-9.  The Vikings will be looking to keep adding wins to their record and will play league opponent Platte Valley tomorrow and then will end the week with games against Yuma and Wray on 9/12. Next week, Valley will host Strasburg on 9/15.  Stat leaders for Valley are Danica Flesner with 3 home runs, a 2.78 ERA, 22 runs, 30 hits, and 26 RBI, Adri O’Dell with 1 home run, Ashlyn Blackwell with 1 home run and 10 stolen bases, RyAnn Litfin with 12 stolen bases, 20 runs, 17 hits and 12 RBI, and Aubree Montoya with 12 stolen bases, 20 runs, 15 hits, and 12 RBI.

Cedaredge

The Bruins are 8-4 overall on the season, and after a loss to Delta 2-10 and a win over Gunnison 14-2, the team is 3-1 in league play and are currently 2nd in the Western Slope South league. Cedaredge will be getting some rest and will not play any games until the wend of next week when they will play a double deader against Meeker on 9/19. Stat leaders for Cedaredge are Meri Hollembeak with 7 home runs, 5 stolen bases, 19 runs, 23 hits, and 19 RBI, Tia Homedew with 2 home runs, a 3.23 ERA, 18 runs and 16 RBI, Sunshine DeHerrera with 2 stolen bases, Kiera Stroh with 2 stolen bases, Kimbry Hebert with 16 runs, 21 hits and123 RBI, and Mia Gallegos with 20 hits.

Rocky Ford

The Meloneers are 6-4 overall on the season with a 0-1 league record and are 4th in the Tri-Peaks league, in the month of September, Rocky Ford got wins over Sand Creek 5-4 and Mitchell 17-0 but fell to Lamar 4-10. To wrap up this week, the team will play in tournament play on 9/11 and will take on Durango and Gunnison. Leading Rocky Ford on the stat board are Grace Welch with 10 stolen bases, 12 runs, Laynee Mason with 10 stolen bases and a 4.67 ERA, Annesyiah Camacho with 10 stolen bases and 9 hits, Alysia Marquez with a 4.60 ERA and 12 hits, Kassidy Kurtz with 13 runs, and Kendra Rodriquez with 10 runs and 9 hits.

Delta

Rounding out the top 16 teams in the CHSAA Rankings, Delta is 7-6 overall on the season, 1-1 in league and are currently 3rd in the Western Slope South league. Delta was able to get a win over Cedaredge last week 10-2 but fell to Eagle Valley 10-17. The team will go on the road tonight and will take on Rifle in a league game and then they will end the week by hosting Palisade on 9/11. Next week, the team will host Gunnison in a league game on 9/15. Stat leaders for the Panthers are Sophia Siennicki with 5 home runs, 18 runs, 15 hits and 18 RBI, Jaidyn Robinson with 2 home run, Shea Ryan with 1 home run, Brooklyn Carlquist with 13 stolen bases, 20 runs, 16 hits and 14 RBI, Jazlyn Naranjo with 12 stolen bases, 19 runs, 19 hits and 14 RBI, Hailey Thomas with 7 stolen bases, and Lily Gallegos with a 4.36 ERA.
