Class 2A Football Preview-Week Three

We use the MileHigh Prep Report Coaches/Media Poll and go through the top matchups of Week Two.  The 6 games selected seem to be the big matchups of the Third Week of the Season!

#1 Wellington (2-0) at 3A Timnath (2-0), Friday at 6:30pm

Last Week…Wellington improved to 2-0 on the season with a forfeit win over Montezuma-Cortez.  Wellington has played just 1 true game and had an extra week to prepare for 3A Timnath.  On the season Wellington is led by their rushing attack which has racked up 283 yards and 3 TDs.  RB Brayton Meglen leads the way with 98 yards and 1 TD and RB Cyle Kisner is second with 64 yards and a TD.  QB Eli Lavelle leads the passing attack with 65 yards while rushing for 60 yards and a TD.  Defensively, Wellington has forced 1 turnover and 3 sacks on the year.  Teagen Greiman (12 tackles) and Cortlen Graham (9 tackles) lead the Eagles Defense.

Timnath is in Class 3A and they are currently 2-0 on the season and are coming off a 19 to 6 win over Severance.  Offensively, Timnath has been balanced on the season passing for 272 yards while rushing for 214 yards.  QB Jackson Craig leads the passing attack with 272 yards and 3 TDs and his top target it WR Ryan Waymire who has 6 catches for 143 yards and 1 TD.  The rushing attack is led by RB Makai Major who was 184 yards and 3 TDs.  Defensively, Brayden Sellers (21 tackles) and Nate Halloran (14 tackles) lead the Timnath Defense.

Series history… Wellington leads the series 4-0 over Timnath, since 2004.  They face each other last year with Wellington winning 27 to 15.

#10 Lamar (2-1) at Woodland Park (1-2), Friday at 7pm (Tri-Peaks League)

Last Week…Lamar dropped to 2-1 on the season following a 16-0 loss to #8 University.  Lamar was very dimensional in the loss, rushing for -25 yards.  QB Jacob Dunning led the offensive attack passing for 137 yards, 0 TDs, and 0 INTs.  WR Kason Chenoweth (47 yards) and WR Braedyn Fernandez (47 yards) were both the top targets for Dunning.  Defensively, Lamar gave up over 400 yards of total offense but only gave up 16 points.  Alex Aguilar (15 tackles) and Andrew Chairez (13 tackles) led the Lamar defense.

Woodland Park dropped to 1-2 on the season following a 22 to 16 loss to 1A C.S Christian.  Woodland Park led early in that game, but would give up 22 straight points to fall in that game.  Defensively, Woodland Park played well holding an explosive offense to 269 yards of total offense.  Woodland Park would force 2 turnovers, a blocked punt, and 3 sacks in the game.  Zach Summeril (12 tackles) and Bryce Bischoff (10 tackles) would lead the Woodland Park defense.  Offensively, Woodland Park mustered up 215 yards of total offense.  QB Bryce Bischoff led the passing attack with 116 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT and his top target was WR Zach Summeril who had 4 catches for 74 yards and 1 TD.  RB Saie Soto led the rushing attack with 66 yards and 1 TD.

Series history… Woodland Park leads the series 4-3 over Lamar, since 2004.  They meet last season with Lamar winning 52 to 20.

Montezuma-Cortez (1-2) at Pagosa Springs (1-2), Friday at 7pm (Western Slope)

Last Week…Pagosa Springs dropped to 1-2 on the season following a 54 to 28 loss to St. Pius NM.  This was a tied game heading into halftime when St. Pius opened the flood gates and got the win.  Offensively, it was the rushing attack that led the way for Pagosa Springs rushing for 247 yards and 3 TDs.  RB Alex Pacheco led the attack with 114 yards and 1 TD while RB Noah Bellina contributed 41 yards.  QB Kasen Limebrook also contributed offensively with 2 rushing TDs.  Defensively, Pagosa Springs was diced up through the air giving up 325 yards passing and another 123 yards on the ground.  Look for Pagosa Springs to make improvements this week defensively.  No Defensive stats were input for Pagosa springs.

Montezuma-Cortez forfeit their game against Wellington last week and that dropped them to 1-2 on the season.  On the season, Montezuma-Cortez has racked up 243 yards of total offense.  QB Cody Case leads the passing attack with 80 yards passing.  RB Kendrick MacPherson leads the rushing attack with 154 yards.  Montezuma-Cortez has not defensive stats on the year.

Series history… Pagosa Springs leads the series over Montezuma-Cortez 12-5, since 2004.  They faced each other last year with Pagosa Springs winning 42 to 10.

Resurrection Christian (0-2) at #2 Classical Academy (3-0), Friday at 7pm

Last Week…Classical Academy improved to 3-0on the season with a 56 to 13 win over Alamosa.  TCA broke the 40-point mark for the first time this season.  Offensively, TCA had a big day racking up 414 yards of total offense.  QB Wilson Grothe led the passing attack with 174 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT and his top target was WR Garrett Moore who had 3 catches for 60 yards.  The rushing attack was led by RB Josiah Musilli who rushed for 123 yards and 3 TDs.  Defensively, TCA held Alamosa to just 222 yards of total offense including 2 sacks, and 4 turnovers.  Aaron Young (7 tackles) and Bo Franck (4 tackles) led the TCA defense.

Resurrection Christian is coming off a bye week and had an extra week of preparation.  Resurrection Christian is currently 0-2 on the season coming off back-to-back losses to 3A teams Palisade and Pueblo East.  Offensively, it has been the rushing attack leading the way with 292 yards.  RB Ryan Gooch is the top rusher with 82 yards.  QB Camden Davis leads the offensive attack with 133 yards, 2 INTs while rushing for 145 yards and 2 TDs.  WR Carson Klein is the top target with 8 catches for 48 yards.  Defensively, Resurrection Christian has forced 7 turnovers on the season and 3 sacks.  Carson Kelin (16 tackles) and Camden Davis (16 tackles) lead the way for the Cougar Defense.

Series history… Resurrection Christian leads the Series over TCA 2-0, since 2004.  They last meet in 2019 with Resurrection Christian winning 21 to 3.

Alamosa (1-2) at Florence (1-2), Friday at 7pm (Tri-Peaks League)

Last Week…Alamosa dropped to 1-2 on the season following a 56 to 13 loss to Classical Academy.  Alamosa has dropped back-to-back games against top 3 opponents.  Offensively, Alamosa did not get much going last week but did rack up 222 yards of total offense.  QB Evan Anderson once again led the way with 90 yards passing, 1 TD, and 2 INTs while rushing for 89 yards and 1 TD.  WR Elijah Salazar was the top target with 80 yards and 1 TD.  RB Zavier Maez led the rushing attack with 41 yards.  Defensively, Alamosa gave up 414 yards last week so look for them to improve.  Mason Pintor (7 tackles) and Keenon Woodward (5 tackles) led the Alamosa defense.

Florence improved to 1-2 on the season picking up their first win of the season over Pueblo Centennial 53-0.  Florence got the offense going in this one racking up 333 yards.  QB Ryan Robinson had a big day passing for 64 yards while rushing for 155 yards and 3 TDs.  RB Marcus Robinson (42 yards) and WR JJ Baker (44 yards) also contributed to the offensive attack.  Defensively, Florence pitched the shutout plus forced 1 sack, 2 INTs, and 1 blocked punt.  Brynnen Lambert (8 tackles) and Marcus Robinson (7 tackles) lead the Florence defense.

Series history… Florence leads the series over Alamosa 9-5, since 2004.  They last meet in 2023 with Alamosa getting the 27 to 25 win.

Gunnison (2-1) at Basalt (2-1), Friday at 7pm (Western Slope)

Last Week…Basalt dropped their first game of the 2026 season falling to 3A Eagle Valley 29 to 8. Basalt struggled to get much going offensively not scoring till the third quarter.  Offensively, Basalt did rack up 267 yards of total offense.  RB Chris RosasSaldana led the offensive attack with 160 yards rushing and 1 TD.  QB Nate Donnelly led the passing attack with 66 yards and WR Sam Volf was the top target with 4 catches for 25 yards.  Defensively, Basalt did give up 413 yards of offense and look for them to improve this week.  Chris RosasSaldena (7 tackles) and Dylan Ferreira (6 tackles) led the Basalt defense. 

Gunnison dropped to 2-1 on the season following a 19 to 14 loss to 1A Olathe.  Gunnison held a 14 to 7 lead at halftime but 12 unanswered points in the second half led to the loss.  Gunnison offensively, had success racking up 339 yards but only scoring twice in the game.  QB Asher Woytek led the passing attack with 152 yards, 1 TD, and 2 INTs.  WR Jorge Perez was the top target with 4 catches for 101 yards and 1 TD.  The rushing attack was led by RB Deegan Bennett who had 5 carries for 41 yards.  Defensively, Gunnison did for 1 turnover in the game but lose the turnover battle.  Tytus Williams (10 tackles) and Jacob Frey (7 tackles) led the Cowboy defense. 

Series history… Gunnison leads the series over Basalt 6-4, since 2004.  They last met in 2013 where Gunnison won 20 to 9.
