Class 1A Football Preview-Week Five
We use the MileHigh Prep Report Coaches/Media Poll and go thru the top matchups of Week Five. The 6 games selected seem to be the big matchups of the 5th Week of the Season. We move into the second week of league play!
#7 Monte Vista (3-1) at #8 Centauri (2-2), Friday at 7pm (Southern League)
Last Week…Monte Vista improved to 3-1 on the season with a 51 to 6 win over Ignacio. Monte Vista scored 38 first Quarter points and never looked back in the game. On the season Monte Vista has been powered by their rushing attack, which has racked up 914 yards and 11 TDs. RB Judah Howe powers the rushing attack with 416 yards and 5 TDs while RB Nehemias Sariana-Sandoval is the #2 rusher with 141 yards and 1 TD. QB Manny Jiron powers the passing attack with 243 yards and 4 TDs while rushing for 125 yards and 2 TDs. Defensively Monte Vista has forced 7 sacks on the season while also forcing 12 turnovers and 14 TFL. Diego Zamarippa (37 tackles) and Mason Mondragon (35 tackles) lead the Pirates defense.
Centauri improved to 2-2 on the season following a 47-6 win over Bayfield. Centauri scored 34 unanswered points in the 2nd and 3rd quarter to pull away and grab the win. On the season Centauri is balanced in their offensive attack. QB Grayson Hunzeker leads the passing attack with 300 yards, 3 TDs, and 0 INTs while rushing for another 2 TDs. Hunzeker top target is WR Dallyn King who has 4 catches for 93 yards and 1 TD. The rushing attack is led by RB Caden Ruggles who has 174 yards and 2 TDs. No defensive stats have been input by Centauri on the season.

#6 Platte Valley (4-0) at #9 Wiggins (3-1), Thursday at 7pm (Big Northern League)
Last Week…Platte Valley improved to 4-0 on the season following a 27 to 14 win over Yuma. Platte Valley improved to 1-0 in league and got a key leg up. On the season Platte Valley has been explosive offensively racking up 1500 yards of total offense. The rushing attack leads the way with 972 yards and led by RB Logan Vannest (334 yards & 2 TDs) and RB Mason Hunt (291 yards & 5 TDs). QB Jackson Gentry leads the passing attack with 528 yards, 9 TDs, and 0 INTs. Defensively Platte Valley has forced 13 sacks on the season while forcing 8 turnovers and 44 TFL. Jason Harrison (38 tackles) and Kaden Tucker (34 tackles) lead the Broncos defense.
Wiggins improved to 3-1 on the season following a rain delayed win over Holyoke 39 to 0. Wiggins has not won three straight games with key wins over Strasburg, Flatirons Academy, and league opponent Holyoke. On the season Wiggins has been powered by their rushing attack which has racked up 910 yards and 10 TDs. RB Owen Erker leads the rushing attack with 367 yards and 3 TDs and RB Cyrus Barkdoll is the #2 option with 300 yards and 5 TDs. QB Isaac Flores leads the passing attack with 296 yards, 2 TDs, and 3 INTs. Defensively Wiggins has forced 13 sacks on the season while forcing 8 turnovers and 32 TFL. Cyrus Barkdoll (45 tackles) and Julien Towers (34 tackles) lead the Tigers defense.

#3 North Fork (3-0) at Cedaredge (1-3), Friday at 7pm (Western Slope League)
Last Week…North Fork currently is 3-0 on the season and are coming off a bye. North Fork has picked up two huge wins over Monte Vista and Centauri. On the season North Fork has racked up 780 yards of total offense. QB Tate Carver powers the offense for the Miners with 215 yards passing, 184 yards rushing, and 5 Total TDs. Carver top target is WR David Audelo who has 5 catches for 122 yards and 2 TDs. RB Alex Csere leads the rushing attack with 198 yards and 2 TDs. Defensively North Fork has 8 sacks on the season while forcing 5 turnovers and 17 TFL. Branson Hall (37 tackles) and Colter Scriver (24 tackles) lead the North Fork defense.
Cedaredge dropped their third consecutive game on the season falling to Meeker 36-14. Cedaredge has played a tough schedule so far this season falling to Rye, #7 Monte Vista, and #2 Meeker. On the season Cedaredge has leaned on the passing attack. QB Logan Sanders leads the offensive attack with 622 yards, 7 TDs, and 3 INTs while rushing for 184 yards and 5 TDs. Sanders top target is WR Dane Brown who has 16 catches for 254 yards and 5 TDs. The top rusher for Cedaredge is RB Makai Salazar who has 143 yards rushing and 1 TD. Holyoke (2-2) at Wray (1-3), Friday at 7pm (Big Northern League)
Last Week… Wray improved to 1-3 on the season following their first win of the season over Highland 21 to 14. Wray has played a tough schedule this season facing #4 Burlington, #1 Limon, and Buena Vista. On the season Wray has been balanced in their offensive attack with 328 yards passing and 476 yards rushing. QB Grady Godsey leads the offense with 302 yards passing, 1 TD, and 3 INTs while rushing for 112 yards and 3 TDs. WR Jaiden Depue is the top target with 4 catches for 166 yards and 1 TD. The rushing attack is led by RB Adan Aguilar who has 183 yards and 0 TDs. Defensively Wray has forced 4 turnovers on the season while forcing 2 sacks and 19 TFL. Noah Stults (32 tackles) and Lance Buoy (26 tackles) lead the Eagles defense.
Holyoke dropped to 2-2 on the season following the 39-0 loss to Wiggins last week. Holyoke has currently faced two ranked opponents falling to both. On the season Holyoke has leaned heavily on their passing attack. QB Dathyn Dirks leads the offensive attack with 361 yards passing, 5 TDs, and 7 INTs. Dayspring Christian (1-2) at Yuma (1-3), Friday at 7pm (Big Northern League)
Last Week…Yuma dropped to 1-3 on the season following a 27-14 loss to Platte Valley. Yuma has played a tough schedule so far with all three losses coming to ranked opponents in #2 Meeker, #4 Burlington, and #6 Platte Valley. On the season Yuma has been nearly balanced in their offensive attack. QB Iann Duran leads the passing attack with 237 yards, 2 TDs, and 0 INTs. WR Brodie Kallweit powers the receiving core with 7 catches for 165 yards and 1 TD. RB Christian Thomson is the leading rusher for Yuma with 175 yards and 2 TDs. Defensively Yuma has not forced any sacks on the season and just 1 turnover so far. Brodie Kallweit (30 tackles) and Jesus Gordo (24 tackles) lead the Outlaws Defense.
Dayspring Christian currently is 1-2 on the season and is coming off a bye. Dayspring Christian is making the leap from 8-Man to 11-man and will look to take their shot at some of the top teams in 1A. On the season Dayspring Christian leans on their rushing attack. Last Week…Flatirons Academy is currently 2-1 on the season and are coming off a bye. Flatirons Academy last game was against Wiggins where they lost 39-27. On the season Flatirons Academy has leaned on their rushing attack which has racked up 613 yards and 13 TDs. QB Caleb Doughty leads the offensive attack for the Bison with 245 yards passing, 2 TDs, and 2 INTs while rushing for 168 yards and 2 TDs. WR Jack Joyner is the top target with 9 catches for 105 yards. RB Zeke Friedman is the top rusher with 222 yards and 6 TDs. Defensively Flatirons Academy has forced 6.5 sacks on the season while forcing 8 turnovers and 24 TFL. Isaiah Figueroa (33 tackles) and Micah McGuin (32 tackles) lead the Flatirons Defense.
Pinnacle dropped to 2-1 on the season falling to Denver Christian 50-0. Pinnacle will look to bounce back after suffering their first loss. On the season Pinnacle has leaned heavily on the rushing attack racking up 531 yards and just 53 yards passing. RB AJ Duran powers the offense with 262 yards and 3 TDs. QB Ezequil Ibarra leads the passing attack with 53 yards but also has rushed for 175 yards and 3 TDs. Defensively Pinnacle has forced 3 sacks and 4 turnovers while also making 28 TFL. AJ Duran (20 tackles), Valentino Fuentes (19 tackles) and Omar Terrones-Jara (17 tackles) lead the Timberwolves defense.
