Class 2A Volleyball Weekly Review and Preview

We are about midway through the volleyball season now and teams are starting to take their spot in the 2A rankings. This week we look at the top 16 teams in the CHSAA 2A Rankings.

Wiggins

The Tigers are sitting in the number one spot in the CHSAA Rankings currently with am 8-2 overall record, a 1-0 league record and are sitting 1^st in the Patriot Plains league. In the last week of play, the team was able to get the win over Holyoke 3-0 but fell to Resurrection Christian 0-3. Wiggins will be looking to add another win to their record to end the week and will be on the road to face Sedgwick County tonight. Stat leaders for Wiggins are Tenleigh Lorenzini with 18 blocks, 5 aces, and 84 kills, Brynn Neal with 12 blocks, Kellie Viccrilli with 8 blocks, 6 aces, and 93 digs, Jaydin Busch with 25 aces and 235 assists, Karsyn Kerr with 130 digs, 6 assists, 87 kills and 105 receptions, Isabella Fanatia with 105 digs, 8 assists, and 127 receptions, Kynley Yzaguirre with 53 kills and Juliet Leon with 100 receptions.

Vail Christian

The Saints currently have an 11-2 overall record on the season, a 5-0 league record, are 2^nd in the Western Slope league and are 2^nd in the CHSAA Rankings. After getting wins over Hayden, De Beque, and Grand Valley last week, all 3-0, the team is also on a 5 game winning streak. Vail Christian will be looking to continue their winning streak and wrap up the week of play by hitting the road and playing Plateau Valley on 9/25. Stat leaders for the Saints are Ryan Baron with 28 blocks, Stella Hawkins with 27 blocks, 21 aces, and 56 kills, Michelle Teague with 15 blocks, 24 aces, 79 digs, 135 kills and 175 receptions, Tenley Brasington with 33 aces and 325 assists, Sam Bates with 116 digs, 20 assists, and 196 receptions, Mary McClarrinon with 79 digs, 122 kills and 146 receptions, and Harper Kauffman with 15 assists.

Evangel Christian Academy

ECA fell to Sargent last week 2-3 but was then able to get the win over Genoa-Hugo/Karval 3-0. The team is now 9-2 overall on the season, 1-0 in league play and 1^st in the Black Forest league. The Eagles will be looking to add more wins to their record this weekend as they participate in the Akron Tournament, where they will play McClave and Otis. Then next week, the Eagles will go one the road to play league opponent Liberty Tree Academy. Stat leaders for ECA are Kate Hetzel with 19 blocks and 44 kills, Olivia Christensen with 16 blocks, Ellie Wagner with 7 blocks, 13 aces, 80 digs, 11 assists, and 106 kills, Mia Castro with 22 aces, 134 digs, 87 kills and 131 receptions, Alyssa Costain with 17 aces and 239 assists, Bailey Roberts with 108 digs and 148 receptions, Abbey Roberts with 10 assists, and Lucy Atkins with 66 receptions.

Merino

Merino is currently 8-2 overall on the season with a 2-0 league record and they are sitting in 1^st in the Lower Platte league. The Rams are currently on a 4 game winning streak after beating Flatirons Academy 3-0 and Limon 3-1during the last week. Merino will be looking to add to their winning streak and will travel to Yuma to end the week on 9/29 in a league game.

Akron

Akron is currently the 5^th team in the CHSAA Rankings with an 8-3 overall record, a 1-1 league record, and the Rams are currently 5^th in the Lower Platte league. The team has taken some time off since their loss to Caliche 1-3 and will play in tournament style play this weekend against Custer County and Granada where the Rams will be looking for some bounce back wins. Stat leaders for Akron are Molly O’Neil with 22 blocks and 35 kills, Kyle Grauer with 11 blocks, Madison Woods with 10 blocks, 9 aces, 52 digs, 7 assists, 41 kills and 67 receptions, Payton Marshall with 16 aces, Rayne Fountain with 11 aces, 62 digs, 33 kills and 61 receptions,  Ella Koch with 55 digs and 92 assists, and Taylor Cottman with 30 assists.

Centauri

The Falcons are currently 7-4 overall on the season with a 2-1 league record and 2^nd in the Intermountain league. Centauri has won all of their games in the last week of play, beating Bayfield 3-1, Durango 3-0 and The Village 3-2. The team will be looking to keep their success rolling during this next week of play as they wrap up this week against Montezuma-Cortez and start next week against league opponent Alamosa on 9/29. Stat leaders for the Falcons are Rylie McCarroll with 35 blocks, 24 aces, and 22 assists, Kimbry Wilfong with 25 blocks, Analynn Dwyer with 14 blocks, 15 aces, and 77 kills, Kanadie Wilfong with 19 aces, 87 digs, and 298 assists, Lauren Gallegos with 130 digs, 26 assists and 213 receptions, and Kynlei Curtis with 87 digs, 98 kills and 154 receptions.

Ignacio

Ignacio beat all three opponents they faced in the last week, getting wins over Sanford 3-0, Dove Creek 3-0 and Ridgeway 3-0. The Bobcats are now 8-1 overall on the season, 2-0 in league play, and are sitting 2^nd in the San Juan Basin league. Ignacio will end the week by traveling to Telluride for a league game and then they will resume games next week against Mancos on 10/1. Stat leaders for Ignacio are Alleah Neil with 22 blocks and 85 kills, Kelly Sirios with 12 blocks, 30 aces, 88 digs, and 200 assists, Reggi Gustafson with 7 blocks, Maliyah Martinez with 16 aces, 90 digs, and 52 kills, Tarah Baker with 10 aces, 70 digs, 16 assists, and 89 receptions, Lily Quintana with 10 assists and 72 receptions, and Lainee Bradley with 58 kills and 80 receptions.

Dolores

Dolores is currently 7-2 overall on the season, 2-0 in league play and are currently 2^nd in the San Juan Basin League. The Bears were able to get the win last week over Telluride 3-0 and will be looking for the same success as they take on Monticello tonight and Ridgway on 9/26. Stat leaders for Dolores are Addyson Wyatt with 27 blocks, 13 aces, and 158 assists, Sophee Heaton with 24 blocks and 42 kills, Akaia Edwards with 11 blocks, Kendall Chavez with 27 aces, 128 digs, 12 assists, 117 kills and 128 receptions, Aubree Wyatt with 14 aces, 91 digs, 131 kills and 121 receptions, Layla Mitchell with 172 digs and 214 receptions, and Madison Thornbrugh with 136 assists.

Heritage Christian

The Eagles are currently 7-1 overall on the season, 1-0 in league play and are 2^nd in the Mile High League. Heritage Christian was able to win their last game they played against Dawson School 3-0, putting the team on a 3 game winning streak. The team will be looking to continue their momentum and get a couple of wins to end the month. The Eagles will play Union Colony Prep on 9/25 and Belleview Christian on 9/29. Stat leaders for the Eagles are Eden Perea with 3 blocks, Annabelle Loucks with 3 blocks, 21 aces, 69 digs, 5 assists, 115 kills and 83 receptions, Caleigh Smith with 3 blocks, 25 aces, and 158 assists, Julia Fotsch with 17 aces, 64 digs, 14 assists, and 123 receptions, Bethany Phillips with 40 digs, 50 kills and 66 receptions, and Partha Bor with 22 kills.

Dayspring Christian Academy

Dayspring Christian is 10-3 on the season, 1-0 in league play, 5^th in the Mile High league, and are the 10^th team in the CHSAA Rankings. In the last week of play, the Eagles beat ACANC 3-1, DSST: Green Valley Ranch 2-0, Grand Valley 2-0, and Kent Denver 2-1, but lost in their second game against Kent Denver 0-2, snapping their 9 game winning streak. The Eagles will look to rebuild their winning streak starting tonight when they take on Gilpin County on 9/24, end the week off against Denver Academy on 9/29 and then kick off October against Flatirons Academy on 10/1. Stat leaders for DCA are Gracie Gilmore with 27 blocks and 108 kills, Sophia O’Neil with 24 total blocks, Ari Herrera with 20 blocks, 15 assists and 74 kills, Hadley Bonnell with 16 aces, 153 digs, and 175 receptions, Sam Estrin with 15 aces and 84 assists, Addy Konzek with 12 aces, 141 digs, and  219 assists, Abby Brown with 109 digs and 134 receptions, and Evie Chamberlain with 85 kills and 104 receptions.

Del Norte

Del Norte is 9-2 overall on the season, 2-0 in league play and are currently 1^st in the Southern peaks league. The Tigers were able to get some time off before the push into the back half of the season and will be looking to take on Sargent on 9/25. Leading the Tigers stat board this season are Adysen Ruybal with 11 blocks, Makenzie Consaul with 7 blocks, 18 aces, and 48 kills, Catie Decon with 2 blocks, and 66 digs, Julia Trujillo with 23 aces, 74 digs, 9 assists and 50 kills, Caleigh Sierra with 16 aces and 222 assists, and Emma Parra with 103 digs, 7 assists and 96 kills.

Cedaredge

Cedaredge lost to Meeker in a league game 0-3 but was able to beat their other league opponent Caprock Academy 3-0. The Bruins are now 9-1 overall on the season, 5-1 in league play and are 5^th in the Western Slope league. Cedaredge will be looking to find more success and add wins to their record and will take on league opponent North Fork tonight, and then the team will travel to West Grand to end the week on 9/26. Stat leaders for the Bruins are Kinzie MacKendrick with 27 blocks, Macy Medill with 15 blocks, Lydia Tietz with 11 blocks, 17 aces, and 211 assists, Trieah Dittrich with 18 aces, 62 digs, 87 kills and 66 receptions, Zea Robidoux with 16 aces, 56 digs, and 72 kills, Racele Olson with 107 digs, 15 assists, and 126 receptions, Olivia Blair with 9 assists and 57 receptions, and Cambree Hanson with 28 kills.

North Fork

The Miners are 8-1 overall on the season with a 5-0 league record and are 2^nd in the Western Slope league. North Fork won both of their games they played during the last week, beating Caprock Academy and Hayden in league games 3-0. Tonight the team will travel to Cedaredge to take on the Bruins and then they will end the week by going back on the road to take on Soroco on 9/26. Stat leaders for the team are Alyssa Lovelace with 1 blocks, 7 kills, Ava Stucker with 1 block and 4 aces, Ashley Gibson with 1 block, 6 aces, 5 digs, 1 assists, 16 kills and 3 receptions, Saydee Allen with 2 aces and 31 assists, Alyssa Dawes with 8 digs, Andie Heinritz with 5 digs, 1 assists, and 11 receptions, and Avery Flores with 5 kills and 7 receptions.

Lyons

Lyons is currently 7-5 overall on the season with a 2-0 league record and is 1^st in the Mile High league. The team recently beat Frontier Academy 3-0 but lost to Simla 0-3. The Lions will be looking to bounce back from that loss and end the week with a win over Gilpin County which will be on 9/29. Next week, the team will end the month with a game against Colorado Academy on 9/30. Stat leaders for the Lions are Michaela Coleman with 25 blocks and 119 kills, Poet MacKinnon with 17 blocks, Greta Gadbaw with 9 blocks and 71 assists, Carmen Dumbauld with 53 aces and 276 assists, Audrey Voss with 31 aces, 131 digs, 7 assists, 99 kills and 49 receptions, Annabelle Hay with 24 aces, 123 digs, 100 kills and 53 receptions, and Gwen Gadbaw with 140 digs and 124 receptions.

Sedgwick County

The Cougars got the win over Calhan 3-0 and are now 7-2 overall on the season and have not played league games yet. The team is currently on a 3 game winning streak and will be looking to get another win to end the week and will face Wiggins on 9/24. Next week, Sedgwick County will start league games and will kick it off against Wray on 9/29. Stat leaders for the cougars are Daryn Nein with 13 blocks, 75 digs, 54 kills and 189 receptions, Piper Buettenback with 9 blocks, 86 kills and 74 receptions, Addison Renquist with 6 blocks, 15 aces, 53 digs, 81 assists, and 32 kills, Natalie Lanckriet with 14 aces, Ryen Carlson with 14 aces, 66 digs, 93 assists, and 74 receptions, and Sophia Rahe with 29 assists.

Highland

Highland rounds out the top 16 teams in CHSAA rankings with a 10-5 overall record, a 0-1 league record and are 3^rd in the Patriot Plains league. The Huskies beat Liberty Common and Wray in the last week 3-0. The team will end the week by taking on Strasburg on 9/29 in a league game. Stat leaders for Highland are Madi Smith with 18 blocks and 71 kills, Isabella Tiley with 17 blocks, 4 assists, and 92 kills, Leah Vara with 7 blocks, 43 aces, 76 digs, and 293 assists, Jordan Taylor with 24 aces, Annabelle Crider with 23 aces, 160 digs, 16 assists, and 245 receptions, Ryleigh Wares with 68 digs and 94 receptions, and Sophia Martinez with 73 kills.
