Class 2A Football Preview-Week Five
We use the MileHigh Prep Report Coaches/Media Poll and go through the top matchups of Week Two. The 6 games selected seem to be the big matchups of the 5th Week of the Season!
#8 Brush (3-1) at #3 Wellington (3-1), Friday at 6:30pm
Last Week…Wellington improved to 3-1 on the season following a 56 to 7 win over Strasburg last week. Wellington dominated from the get-go scoring 21 points in the 1st Quarter and 14 in the 2nd Quarter. On the season Welington is powered by their rushing attack which has racked up over 993 yards and 11 TDs. RB Brayton Meglen powers the rushing attack with 383 yards and 6 TDs while RB Cyle Kisner also contributes with 226 yards and 1 TD. QB Eli Lavelle leads the passing attack with 243 yards, 3 TDs, and 0 INTs while also rushing for 105 yards and 3 TDs. Defensively Wellington has forced 4 turnovers on the season while sacking the QB 8 times and forcing 12 TFL. Teagen Greiman (30 tackles) and Ethan Thurnes (25 tackles) lead the Wellington defense.
Brush improved to 3-1 on the season with a 25-8 win over Plainville KS. That is the third win in a row for the Beetdiggers and now they are looking for a key win over a top 10 team. On the season Brush has leaned heavily on their rushing attack which has racked up 1109 yards compared to just 158 yards passing. RB Jolani Thomas (587 yards and 7 TDs) and RB Cassius Middlemist (411 yards and 7 TDs) lead the Brush offense and are averaging over 6.0 yards per carry. QB Trent Garrett also adds to the offensive attack with 158 yards passing and 54 yards rushing. Defensively Brush has forced 9 turnovers on the season so far while forcing 6 sacks and 22 TFL. Cassius Middlemist (31 tackles) and Caylen Thomas (30 tackles) lead the Defense.

#5 Eaton (3-1) at #7 University (4-0), Friday at 7pm
Last Week…Eaton improved to 3-1 on the season following a 51-14 win over Forge Christian. Eaton has won 3 straight games with a pair of them over 3A opponents. On the season Eaton is balanced in their offensive attack and have racked up 1495 yards of total offense. QB Brayden Legler leads the offensive attack with 780 yards passing, 2 TDs, and 1 INT while rushing for an additional 83 yards. WR Cooper Wiedeman is the top pass catcher with 11 receptions for 194 yards. RB Jackson Savona leads the rushing attack with 214 yards and 4 TDs. Defensively Eaton has forced 7 sacks and 14 TFL on the season while also forcing 8 turnovers. Ben Lawhead (39 tackles) and Luisangel Garcia (30 tackles) lead the Eaton defense.
University improved to 4-0 on the season following a 30 to 0 win over Denver West. University on the season has 3 shutouts and have only given up 7 points so far. On the season University has been led by their rushing attack. RB Preston Schiller (186 yards and 4 TDs) and RB Braxton Scott (125 yards and 3 TDs) lead the rushing attack which has accumulated 812 yards on the season. QB Max Davis leads the offensive attack with 217 yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT while rushing for 155 yards and 3 TDs. Defensively University has forced 11 turnovers on the season while also sacking the QB 15 times and forcing 27 TFL. Joshua Anderson (18 tackles) and Anwar Al-Rashed (17 tackles) lead the Bulldog defense.
Series history… Eaton leads the series 20-2 over University, since 2004. They meet last year with Eaton getting the 35-21 win.
#10 Forge Christian (3-1) at #2 Elizabeth (4-0), Friday at 7pm
Last Week…Elizabeth improved to 4-0 on the season with a hard-fought win over Resurrection Christian 17-0. Elizabeth played well defensively, forcing 2 shutouts and giving up just 14 points. On the season Elizabeth has leaned heavily on their rushing attack racking up 1034 yards and just 201 yards through the air. RB Ryker Atkins is the top rusher for the Cardinals who has 282 yards and 6 TDs and RB Talyn Douglas has also contributed another 232 yards and 3 TDs. QB Joaquin Aviles led the passing attack with 201 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 INT and has contributed to the rushing attack with 152 yards and 1 TD. Defensively, Elizabeth has record 10 sacks on the season with 27 TFL while also forcing 9 turnovers on the season. Cash Buron (28 tackles) and Finn Quinby (27 tackles) lead the Elizabeth defense.
Forge Christian had their 3-game winning streak snapped last week falling to #5 Eaton 51 to 14. Forge Christian gave up the most points they have this season and will look to bounce back this week. On the season Forge Christian has racked up 1266 yards of total offense. QB Jack Widdifield leads the passing attack with 349 yards, 4 TDs, and 1 INT while rushing for 205 yards and 5 TDs. WR Brady Antolak is the top wideout with 3 catches for 124 yards and 1 TD. RB Raleigh Cleveland is the top offensive weapon for the Fury racking up 334 yards rushing and 7 TDs while also catching 7 passes for 128 yards and 2 TDs. Defensively Forge Christian has forced 11 turnovers on the season while forcing 3 sacks and 10 TFL. Brady Antolak (36 tackles) and Kaleb Mayer (22 tackles) lead the Fury defense.
Series history… Forge Christian leads the series over Elizabeth 1-0, since 2004. They last faced each other in 2019 with Forge Christian getting the 8-0 win.
Alamosa (2-3) at #9 Lamar (4-1), Friday at 7pm
Last Week…Lamar improved to 4-1 on the season with a 44-0 win over Manitou Springs. That is back-to-back wins for Lamar and a 2-0 start in league play. On the season Lamar has leaned on their passing attack to lead the way. QB Jacob Dunning leads the passing attack with 910 yards, 12 TDs, and 1 INT while also rushing for an additional 5 TDs. WR Braedyn Fernandez is the top pass catcher with 17 receptions for 284 yards and 3 TDs. RB Alex Aguilar leads the rushing attack with 213 yards and 3 TDs. Defensively Lamar has sacked the QB 9 times this season and forced 15 TFL while forcing 7 turnovers so far this year. Alex Aguilar (41 tackles) and Krypten Kurtz (35 tackles) lead the way for the Lamar defense.
Alamosa dropped to 2-3 on the season following a 24 to 12 loss to #6 La Junta. Alamosa has played one of the tougher schedules in Class 2A facing 3 ranked opponents. On the season Alamosa is balanced in their offensive attack with 718 yards passing and 779 yards rushing. QB Evan Anderson leads the offensive attack with 718 yards passing, 6 TDs, 7 INTs while rushing for 296 yards and 3 TDs. WR Elijah Salazar is the top wideout catching 11 passes for 247 yards and 3 TDs. RB Jordan Gamez is the top rusher for the Mean Moose with 243 yards and 4 TDs. Defensively Alamosa has forced 8 turnovers this season while sacking the QB 5.5 times and forcing 17.5 TFL. Mason Pintor (42 tackles) and Aiden Pintor (39 tackles) lead the Alamosa defense.

D’Evelyn (3-1) at #1 Classical Academy (4-0), Friday at 7pm
Last Week…The Classical Academy is currently 4-0 on the season and coming off a bye week. TCA has played a tough schedule including a pair of top 10 wins plus wins over Alamosa and Resurrection Christian. On the season TCA is balanced in their offensive attack and have racked up 1346 yards of total offense. QB Wilson Grothe leads the offensive attack with 636 yards passing, 7 TDs, and 5 INTs while rushing for 127 yards and 1 TD. WR Garrett Moore is the top target with 12 catches for 164 yards and 2 TDs. RB Josiah Musilli leads the rushing attack with 364 yards and 5 TDs. Defensively TCA has sacked the QB 8 times while also forcing 32 TFL and 10 turnovers on the season. Nathaniel Thorne (27 tackles) and Aaron Young (27 tackles) lead the TCA defense.
D’Evelyn suffered their first loss of the season last week falling to Sterling 14-13. D’Evelyn will hope to get back on track and pick up their best win. On the season D’Evelyn has leaned on their passing attack to lead the way. QB Nick Kelso leads the passing attack with 497 yards, 4 TDs, and 5 INTs. Kelso top target is WR Zachary Copeland who has 21 catches for 223 yards and 1 TD. RB Blake Faris is your top RB with 136 yards and 1 TD. Defensively D’Evelyn has forced 3 turnovers on the season while forcing 4 sacks and 6 TFL. Riah Kuhlow (18 tackles) and Blake Faris (16 tackles) lead the Jaguars defense.
Series history… Classical Academy leads the series over D’Evelyn 5-1, since 2004. They faced each other last season with TCA getting the 48-7 win.
Basalt (3-1) at Pagosa Springs (2-3), Saturday at 3pm
Last Week…Basalt is currently 3-1 on the season and are coming off a bye week. The lone loss for Basalt was to 3A Eagle Valley (2-2) and Basalt has wins over 3A Rifle, 3A Glenwood Springs and a league win over Gunnison. On the season Basalt has leaned on the rushing attack which has racked up 889 yards and 12 TDs. RB Chris RosasSaldana leads the rushing attack with 381 yards and 4 TDs and RB Jude Webb is the #2 rusher with 246 yards and 5 TDs. QB Nate Donnelly leads the passing attack with 371 yards, 3 TDs, and 0 INTs. Defensively Basalt has sacked the QB 7 times this season while also forcing 16 TFL and 9 turnovers. Tripp Spung (35 tackles) and Connor Anthes (30 tackles) leads the Longhorns defense.
Pagosa Springs dropped to 2-3 on the season following a 49-0 loss to #4 Delta. Pagosa Springs 3 losses have all come to ranked opponents in #8 Centauri, 4A #2 St. Pius X NM, and #4 Delta. On the season Pagosa Springs has leaned heavily on the rushing attack racking up 1090 yards and 13 TDs to just 141 yards passing and 2 TDs. RB Hudson Mazur leads the rushing attack with 452 yards and 6 TDs and RB Alex Pacheco has also contributed another 331 yards and 4 TDs. QB Kasen Limebrook leads the passing attack with 141 yards and 2 TDs. Defensively Pagosa Springs has forced 9 turnovers on the season while sacking the QB 6 times and forcing 12 TFL. Reese Jenkins (19 tackles) and Jimmy Elledge (19 tackles) lead the Pirates defense.
Series history… Basalt leads the series over Pagosa Springs 3-1, since 2004. They last played each other in 2019 with Basalt getting the 39-19 win.
