Week 4 Breakdown
Class 6-Man
There were a pair of top ten matchups last week one was #1 Fleming vs #4 Pawnee, Fleming won the matchup easily the other top ten matchup was #2 Eads vs Cheyenne Well with Eads winning very easily as well. Besides that there was only one upset with #8 North Park being upset by Genoa Hugo. Besides that the top ten won their games.
This week features one very good top ten matchup. #5 Otis travels to #7 Arickaree/Woodlin. This should be a great game. So far this year Otis is leading the class in scoring per game. Otis is led by a very strong rushing attack in their win last week they ran for 332 yards. In each game this season Otis has scored over 50 points and will be looking to do that again this week. If there is anything that is weak on Otis’s team it might be their defense. Against Flagler and Miami-Yoder they allowed over 20 points. Arickaree/Woodlin bounced back nicely from their loss last week by pounding Stratton/Liberty 74 to 29. They were very balanced in their win throwing for 151 yards and rushing for 251 yards, which is much closer to their average then last week when they only rushed for 147 yards. So far this season Arickaree/Woodlin has done very good on offense scoring over 50 points twice but their defense is also very susceptible giving up 50 points to Peetz and then 26 to Pawnee and 29 last week to Stratton/Liberty. The key to this game will be which defense decides to step-up and take control of the game. I could see this game turning into a shoot-out with both teams scoring over 40 points.
Another top ten matchup features #4 Hanover vs newly ranked #10 Genoa Hugo. Hanover had a scare last week against Hi-Plains winning 42 to 40. With that win Hanover moves to 3-0 on the season and their offense has been very effective so far this season scoring over 40 points in every game. Their defense took a step back last week giving up 40 points. So far this season Hanover has been very balanced throwing for 146 ypg and rushing for 151 ypg. Genoa Hugo is coming off a big upset of #8 North Park. So far this season Genoa Hugo has had mixed results with losses to Briggsdale and Kit Carson but nice wins over Miami-Yoder and North Park. The big reason for getting the wins is limiting turnover. In their first two games they had 6 turnovers and in their wins they have only had 3 turnovers. They will need to continue that if they want to pull another upset this week. The key to this game will be can Hanover force some turnovers and get their defense to play better.
One last game of interest is #6 Pawnee at North Park. Both of these teams are coming off tough losses with Pawnee losing to #1 Fleming and North Park losing to #10 Genoa Hugo. Both of these teams will be looking to bounce back this week and grab the victory. Pawnee in their loss last week could not get their ground game moving rushing for only 81 yards. But they did have some success throwing the ball throwing for 237 yards. North Park had little success last week throwing the ball last week only throwing for 10 yards. They were averaging 120.5 passing ypg. They did run the ball better this week than last week rushing for 251 yards. What killed North Park was fumbles they had 5 fumbles 3 of which were lost. Both teams have also had some impressive victories with Pawnee beating last year state champions Arickaree/Woodlin and North Park beating #8 Peetz. This could be a really fun game to watch and I think there will be plenty of points scored.
