6-Man Crossover games Breakdown
The playoffs have finally started for Colorado and they begin this week in the 6-Man Rankings. All of the seeds were done by wildcard points for the cross over games. The 8 winners will then be seeded into a bracket and played out until we have are champion.
#1 Kit Carson vs #16 Primero (Sat 1:00pm)
Finally the playoffs have begun and even though it says Crossover games these are realistically first round playoff games. Kit Carson had a great season this year posting a perfect 8-0 mark and beating a bunch of good teams. They have wins against five other playoff teams this year; Genoa Hugo, Cheraw, Cheyenne Wells, Hanover, and Eads. Their offense is led by a strong rushing attack but can attack you through the air as well. They are averaging 141 passing ypg and 187.8 rushing yards per game. Primero comes into the game with a 4-4 mark but is riding a 2 game winning streak. They have a balanced attack in terms of offense throwing for 175 passing yard per game and 216 rushing ypg. They didn’t beat a single team that is in the playoffs. These two teams have a two common opponents. They are Walsh and Cheraw. Kit Carson beat both of them, they beat Cheraw 44 to 33 and Walsh 57 to 40. Primero lost to both, they lost to Cheraw 67 to 12 and to Walsh 40 to 33. Kit Carson will be the favorite and should be able to move past Primero.
#2 Fleming vs #15 Stratton/Liberty (Friday 7:00pm)
Fleming comes into this game with a perfect 8-0 mark and have only been challenged once all year. They have 5 wins against playoff teams; they are Idalia, Pawnee, Peetz, Briggsdale, and Cheyenne Wells. They were only challenged by Cheyenne Wells but beat them 33 to 20. Fleming primarily likes to run the ball they average 273.8 rushing ypg and 111.6 passing ypg. Their passing game could sometimes be a disadvantage as they have thrown 5 interceptions this year. Fleming has one of the best defenses in 6 man giving up only 12 points per game. Stratton/Liberty season has been up and down. They did finish the season strong and when they beat Hi Plains last week snuck into the playoffs. They played a very tough schedule as well playing 4 playoff teams but struggled to grab a win against them. Their offense is led by their ground attack averaging 223.6 rushing yard per game. If they are going to pull the upset they will need their defense to slow down a very good Fleming offense. Stratton/Liberty defense has surrendered 40.2 point per game. Fleming should be able to move past Stratton/Liberty because of their great defense and efficient offense.
#3 La Veta vs #14 Briggsdale (Sat 1:00pm)
Every year there is a double digit seed that upsets a single digit seed and I see two games this year that it could happen in. This is one of the two games. La Veta comes into the game with an 8-0 mark but played a very weak schedule. They have wins over 2 playoff teams and those are Cotopaxi and Primero. They almost picked up their first loss of the season when Walsh pushed them but they still came out victorious 57 to 53. La Veta loves to throw the ball around the yard which could be their downfall especially if the weather gets ugly. La Veta is averaging 259.8 passing yards per game and 198.3 rushing yards per game. The reason I have La Veta on upset alert is their weak schedule. Briggsdale comes into the game at 4-4 and played 5 playoff teams this year grabbing a victory over Genoa Hugo. Briggsdale is lead almost entirely by their rushing attack rushing for 287.1 ypg. Briggsdale ended on a 2 game losing streak but need to use the experience they gained and can pull an upset. They will need their defense to step up and stop the pass and I think they can pull the upset. This game can go either way but if La Veta can throw the ball they will win.
#4 Eads vs #13 Genoa Hugo (Sat 1:00pm)
Eads was riding a nice 15 game regular season winning streak before being upset by Kit Carson 22-8. Before that game Eads was blowing every team out. They played 4 playoff teams beating 3 of them, Cheyenne Wells, Stratton/Liberty, and Cheraw. Their offense is led by their rushing attack which averages 235.4 ypg. Their passing attack has slowed down as the season has progressed. Eads strength has been their defense only giving up 10.8 points per game. They will need that again this weekend if they want to advance. Genoa Hugo ended the year on a 2 game winning streak and come into the game at 4-4. They played 4 playoff teams and lost to all of them. Their defense has been hammered all year in their losses giving up over 36 points. They do have a balanced attack on offense throwing for 172.8 ypg and rushing for 200.9 ypg. If Genoa Hugo wants any chance at pulling an upset they will need their defense to show up and slow down this very powerful Eads offense. Eads should be able to easily move by Genoa Hugo.
#5 Arickaree/Woodlin vs #12 Cheyenne Wells (Friday 7:00pm)
This is another very tricky game for the higher seed. Arickaree/Woodlin is riding a nice 6 game winning streak and have been blowing by teams. They played 4 playoff teams and went 3-1 against them losing to Pawnee and beating Peetz, Stratton/Liberty, and Idalia. Their offense is completely reliant on the run. They rushed for 239.4 ypg. Their defense is not the same as it was last year during their championship run. Their defense has given up 24.6 ppg but their offense has made up for that averaging 55.8 ppg. They will need both if they are going to hold on against a very good Cheyenne Wells team. Cheyenne Wells had a very up and down season and really where only blown out in one game. They come into the game at 4-4 but played against 5 playoff teams. They lost to four, Eads, Kit Carson, Cheraw, and Fleming but beat Stratton/Liberty. They have a good chance to pull an upset if their offense comes to play. In their losses they couldn’t score enough points to keep up with the other team. Arickaree/Woodlin is more susceptible to give up points this year and they will need to watch out as this Cheyenne Wells team scared Fleming last week. Arickaree/Woodlin should be able to get by Cheyenne Wells but this will be a close game.
#6 Hanover vs #11 Idalia (Sat 1:00pm)
Hanover comes into this game with a 7-1 record but only played 2 played playoff teams. They beat Genoa Hugo and lost to Kit Carson. Hanover is the perfect example of a balanced offense throwing for 1205 passing yards and rushing for 1190 yards. Hanover has a very good defense as well only giving up 16.5 ppg. They did have a close call against Hi Plains 42 to 40 a team which Idalia blew out. Idalia comes into this game with a 5-3 record and played 3 playoff teams beating one Stratton/Liberty and losing to Fleming and Arickaree/Woodlin. They ended the season on a two game winning streak and their offense has woken up scoring 72 against Weldon Valley and 80 against Otis last week. The one thing I see with Idalia is when they lose they lose by a lot, 61 to Fleming, 31 to Arickaree/Woodlin but only 12 to Flagler which is a bad loss regardless of score. In their wins they scored over 51 points. They will need that this weekend against Hanover. This could also be a tricky game for the high seed. We are not really sure how good Hanover is besides their close loss to Kit Carson 36 to 30. I do think Hanover will win this game by at least 14 points.
#7 Cheraw vs #10 Peetz (Sat 1:00pm)
Finally the other game that the high seed will need to be on upset alert about. This is also the best game offered for the crossover games. Cheraw comes into this game with a 6-2 record and played against 5 playoff teams going 3-2. They lost to Kit Carson and Eads but beat Primero, Cheyenne Wells, and Cotopaxi. Cheraw loves to also throw the ball around the field averaging 193.1 passing ypg and rushing for 147.1 ypg. They played good against Kit Carson only losing by 11 but were blow out against Eads 66 to 14. Cheraw is riding a nice 3 game winning streak against playoff teams and the games were all decided by 19 points or more. Peetz comes into the game with a 5-3 record and played against 5 playoff teams as well going 3-2 as well. They lost to Arickaree/Woodlin and to Fleming they beat Briggsdale twice and Pawnee. Peetz loves to run the ball rushing for 294.1 ypg. They are riding a nice 3 game winning streak as well and have a huge win over Pawnee two weeks ago. I think this game will be all on the offenses. I see both teams scoring over 30 points and Peetz will sneak out an upset.
#8 Pawnee vs #9 Cotopaxi (Friday 7:00pm)
Usually a #8 vs #9 game would be considered a very good game but not this year. Pawnee I believe is underrated and have played against 5 playoff teams going 3-2 against them. Cotopaxi on the other hand played a very weak schedule playing against 3 playoff teams but going 1-2 against them. They were blown out in their two losses La Veta beat them by 20 and Cheraw beat them by 39. I don’t think this will be a game. I see Pawnee winning by over 30 points and getting back on track after losing last week. If Pawnee plays like they did earlier in the season I can see them possibly making noise if the matchups go their way.
