6man League Breakdown

Class 6-Man State Finals Breakdown

Class 6-Man State Finals

#4 Arickaree/Woodlin at #3 Eads (Sat 1:00pm)

Most people when they looked at the bracket and looked at the stats from the year I bet did not expect the 6-Man championship to be between the #4 seed and #3 seed.  Almost everyone including myself had Fleming in the state championship game against Kit Carson.

#4Arickaree/Woodlin started the upsets when they blew out #1 Kit Carson 49 to 22.  At halftime it was 14 to 6 in favor of Arickaree/Woodlin and then a huge 21 point third quarter put the game away.  Arickaree/Woodlin attacked them both on the ground and through the air.  They threw for 148 yards on 8 of 17 attempts and they ran for 174 yards on 34 attempts.  Their defense held Kit Carson to only 94 yards rushing had 6 sacks and 1 INT.  They dominated the second half and return to the state championship to defend their state title.

Eads surprised everyone with a huge upset of Fleming.  Fleming was #1 ranked all year long and I am sure everyone pick to win the state title.  Eads didn’t have any of that and pulled of a huge upset.  No stats were uploaded but Fleming was held to their lowest point total all year.  Eads now has a rematch with Arickaree/Woodlin for the state title.

These team have four common opponents they were Pawnee, Stratton/Liberty, Hi-Plains, Cheyenne Wells, and Kit Carson.  Arickaree/Woodlin beat Stratton/Liberty 74-29, Hi Plains 50-16, Cheyenne Wells 52-6, and Kit Carson 49-22 and they lost to Pawnee 31-26.  Eads beat Pawnee 66-38, Stratton/Liberty 60-6, Hi-Plains 54-0, and Cheyenne Wels 60-12 and lost to Kit Carson 22-8.  You really don’t get much from their common opponents because they each lost to an opponent the other team beat.

This rematch from last year state championship is different because it’s being played in Eads and of course these were not the two teams everyone expected.  There is a lot of experience on both sides from last year and this is going to be a good game.  Both teams love to score points this year Arickaree/Woodlin is averaging 52.6 ppg and Eads is averaging 49.9 ppg.  The biggest difference from last year to this year is Eads has the better defense this year and Arickaree/Woodlin has the better offense.  For Arickaree/Woodlin to win this game it will be on their defense to shut down Eads like they did Kit Carson.  They also need to be able to run the ball and not throw it too much even though they did a good job last game.  For Eads to win this game they also need their defense to come up big and make sure their offense does not disappear like it did against Kit Carson.  This game is evenly matched and because Eads has home field will be a very slight favorite.  I am predicting that Arickaree/Woodlin will repeat as champions with a 3 point victory over Eads.  Good Luck to both teams!
