Playoff Picture Girls Basketball Colorado Class 3A

Playoff Picture Girls Basketball Class 3A

The information to get this together was pulled from the RPI and latest league standings. I every hope to do this every Tuesday or Wednesday.  I am using the league standing that I updated on Monday and the RPI I am using is straight from CHSAA as of Tuesday 1/31/2017. (NOTE: this was done before the game played last night)

Class 3A

The playoff format for 3A goes as follows; Districts Determine own seeding Criteria for the district tournament, Seven Districts each qualify two teams to the state brackets, with the remaining 18 teams determined by RPI, Qualifiers advance to a 32 teams regional/state brackets where the districts champions plus the next highest RPI finisher will host the regions, Seven District Champions and the 1st highest RPI qualifier will be placed on bracket in order 1-8 and will host the first round and sweet 16 games; seeds 9-32 will be placed on bracket in RPI, avoiding league/district opponents in the first round when possible, Seeds 24-32 may be moved to accommodate geographical considerations

class-3a

Notes: Just like the boys the girls have seeding problems and I think this will set up for a ton of upsets in the regional brackets. Right now Colorado Academy is the #5 seed which I do think they deserve a home game but I would think more around the 7 or 8 seed but because of who they have behind them they are probably the best fit at #5.  #6 Grand Valley, #7 Academy, #8 Weld Central are not even ranked and have not even broken the top 15 in the polls but because they are winning their respective leagues they will host a game.  Grand Valley is the only one of the three that even deserves a top 8 seed they are 10th in the RPI and have a few very good wins and played a very brutal schedule with their OWP at .676 which is one of the highest in 3A.  Academy is #29 in the RPI and Weld Central is #39.  We will have to see how the league shake out towards the end of the year.  Weld Central will win their league and that is ok with me because their OWP is at least over .400 unlike Academy.  The 8 schools that I think will make the state tournament are; #1 St. Mary’s, #2 Sterling, #3 Liberty Common, #4 Centauri, #12 Colorado Springs Christian, #11 Olathe, #10 Lamar, #9 Pagosa Springs.
