Playoff Picture Girls Basketball Class 3A

The information to get this together was pulled from the RPI and latest league standings. I every hope to do this every Tuesday or Wednesday. I am using the league standing that I updated on Monday and the RPI I am using is straight from CHSAA as of Tuesday 2/15/2017. (NOTE: this was done before the game played last night)

Class 3A

The playoff format for 3A goes as follows; Districts Determine own seeding Criteria for the district tournament, Seven Districts each qualify two teams to the state brackets, with the remaining 18 teams determined by RPI, Qualifiers advance to a 32 teams regional/state brackets where the districts champions plus the next highest RPI finisher will host the regions, Seven District Champions and the 1^st highest RPI qualifier will be placed on bracket in order 1-8 and will host the first round and sweet 16 games; seeds 9-32 will be placed on bracket in RPI, avoiding league/district opponents in the first round when possible, Seeds 24-32 may be moved to accommodate geographical considerations.

Notes: I decided to put the notes at the top instead of them getting lost at the end of the article. I went a little more in depth with the bracket this week actually laying out the bracket in terms of true seeded RPI. There are some district teams playing each other in the first round which will be avoided come actual bracketing. Of course there is still a lot a stake for teams to host. The team must win their district tournament to host in the first round and that could have a lot at stake for some teams and could really change the way the bracket could be. For the Confluence/Colorado 7 League the teams that finish first and second will be the only teams to get in from this league. Weld Central, Englewood, and Fort Lupton all played a 4A league schedule so once they drop into the league tournament is where we will find out who gets in. The 3A girls bracket could be one of the most competitive brackets in the entire state. There are a ton of very good teams not hosting because their league is 3 or 4 teams deep. There could be a ton of upsets in the first and second round and it should make for a very competitive tournament. The 8 teams I have advancing to the final 8 are: #1 Sterling, #2 Colorado Springs Christian, #3 Centauri, #4 Liberty Common, #5 Faith Christian, #11 Pagosa Springs, #10 Lamar, #9 St. Mary’s. I have the state bracket posted at the end and all I can say is if these are the final 8 teams it will be a great 3A state tournament. Still a lot at stake especially in a few leagues. The Intermountain, Metro, Patriot and Tri-Peaks could shift the bracket with who wins the league tournament. Match ups are going to be the key to advancing.
