Milehigh Prep Report Class 8-Man and 6-Man Preseason Rankings

Milehigh Prep Report Preseason Rankings

I ran out of time to do a full breakdown of the top 10 for 8-man and 6-man so I am just doing the normal top 10 plus next 5 for 8 Man and 6 Man.

Class 8 Man

#1 Sedgwick County: Last season 12-1, Defending State Champions, graduated 5 seniors

#2 Akron: Last season 10-3, lost in State Championship to Sedgwick County, graduated 7 seniors

#3 Hoehne: Last season 9-3, lost in semifinals to Sedgwick County, graduated 9 seniors

#4 Sargent: Last season 11-1, lost in Semifinals to Akron, graduated 6 seniors

#5 West Grand: Last season 9-2, lost in quarterfinals to Sargent, graduated 4 seniors

#6 Holly: Last season 6-3, lost in first round to Akron, graduated 6 seniors

#7 Dayspring Christian: Last season 6-4, lost in first round to West Grand, graduated 4 seniors

#8 Norwood: Last season 9-2, lost in quarterfinals to Hoehne, graduated 6 seniors

#9 Fowler: Last season 5-4, missed playoffs, graduated 4 seniors

#10 Haxtun: Last season 6-5, lost in quarterfinals to Akron, graduated 4 seniors

Others (11-15)

#11 Granada: Last season 7-3, lost in first round to Merino, graduated 5 seniors

#12 Soroco: Last season 6-4, lost in first round to Sargent, graduated 10 seniors

#13 Sanford: Last season 3-6, missed playoffs, graduated 2 seniors

#14 Simla: Last season 4-5, missed playoffs, graduated 4 seniors

#15 Kiowa: Last season 3-6, missed playoffs, graduated 4 seniors

Notes: 8-man right now does not have as much depth as normal.  Their are a lot of teams who lost very talented players last year and will have to find answers at those positions.  #7 Dayspring Christian and #8 Norwood both lost their QB last year but seem to have depth to replace.  From their down their are problems like lost their main RB or most of their top defensive players.  #6 up though are very solid teams and will be your main challengers to Sedgwick County.

Class 6 Man

#1 Stratton/Liberty: Last season 9-2, lost in semifinals to Cheyenne Wells, graduated 4 seniors

#2 Peetz: Last season 7-3, lost in quarterfinals to Fleming, graduated 3 seniors

#3 Fleming: Last season 10-1, lost in semifinals to Hi-Plains/Flagler, graduated 6 seniors

#4 Kit Carson: Last season 9-1, lost in quarterfinals to Cheyenne Wells, graduated 6 seniors

#5 Flagler/Hi-Plains: Last season 10-2, Defending State Champion, graduated 8 seniors

#6 Otis: Last season 4-5, lost in first round to Fleming, graduated 5 seniors

#7 Genoa-Hugo: Last season 6-3, lost in first round to Arickaree/Woodlin, graduated 2 seniors

#8 Hanover: Last season 3-5, missed the playoffs, graduated 1 senior

#9 Arickaree/Woodlin: Last season 4-5, lost in quarterfinals to Stratton/Liberty, graduated 5 seniors

#10 Eads: Last season 6-3, lost in first round to Peetz, graduated 8 seniors

Other (11-15)

#11 Cheyenne Wells: Last season 8-4, lost in State Championship to Hi-Plains, graduated 8 seniors

#12 Cotopaxi: Last season 7-1, lost in first round to Pawnee, graduated 3 seniors

#13 North Park: Last season 6-3, lost in first round to Cheyenne Wells, graduated 7 seniors

#14 Briggsdale: Last season 3-5, missed playoffs, graduated 2 seniors

#15 La Veta: Last season 6-2, lost in first round to Stratton/Liberty, graduated 3 seniors

Notes: Last years defending state champion Hi-Plain/Flagler is playing as Flagler/Hi-Plains this year.  They lost their main offensive weapons from last year but return a lot on defense.  Stratton/Liberty and Peetz both return some very key players which is why they are ranked #1 and #2.  I had a hard time ranking Fleming above them due to them losing their starting QB which was their main play maker.  It will be interesting to see how 6-man shakes out with Cheyenne Wells fielding a nearly new team compared to last year and Eads losing the majority of its starting lineup.  Teams like Hanover who lost just 1 senior and Briggsdale will look to make bigger jumps this year and expect Cotopaxi to be the dominate team in the Southwest again and they must be ready to face the teams out East this year if they expect to do anything in the playoffs.
