Week Zero Top Ten Schedule
Since there are not that many games during Zero week I will post about all games.
Class 2A
#1 Bayfield vs San Juan UT
This is a rematch from last year were San Juan UT beat Bayfield to open the season. Bayfield enters the season with a new QB but a ton of talent around him plus a very good defense.
#3 Kent Denver vs Prospect Ridge
Prospect Ridge was a brand new team last year and struggled. They don’t start their season with a tough game when they face #3 Kent Denver. Kent Denver is looking to rebuild their line but have a very talented QB to help. If not Kent Denver defense is very solid.
#11 Machebeuf at Pinnacle
Machebeuf is looking to show they can compete with Kent Denver and they have a chance to open the season with a win against Pinnacle.
#12 Alamosa at Florence
What use to be a great rivalry when they were in the same league will kick off Alamosa season. Alamosa will be looking to show that they are a legitimate threat in the Intermountain. Florence is rebuilding somewhat but with their defense they could pull the upset.
#13 Sterling at Resurrection Christian
Resurrection Christian is completely rebuilding its offense but features a tough defense. Sterling returns the offensive weapons to beat most teams but must rebuild their offensive line. Sterling is looking to start the process and this could show they have developed a good offensive line.
#14 Moffat County vs Rawlings WY
Rawlins WY is a 3A school out of WY and this will be a good test for Moffat County. They are featuring a new QB but return their offensive lineman and RB’s.
Outside Top 15
Battle Mountain (3A) vs Steamboat Springs
Middle Park at Aspen
Grand County UT at Montezuma Cortez
Academy at Ridgeview Academy
Class 1A
#2 Meeker vs Highland
Meeker is looking to get experience for the line. Meeker will be a tough team all year and Highland lost a lot of talent and Meeker should be a handful for any team this year.
#7 Paonia at #9 Centauri
How about a top ten game to open the season off and a huge measuring stick for both teams. Paonia is replacing some very key players and will be looking to find replacements at QB. Centauri on the other hand is replacing only 2 senior and will be looking to show they are a legitimate threat. This game could turn into a defensive struggle.
#8 Peyton vs Trinidad
Trinidad is looking to rebound from a 2-7 season and they don’t start in an easy way against a tough Peyton team. Peyton will be looking to get off their season in the right direction.
#11 Crowley County vs Colorado Springs Christian
Crowley County lost their main RB and most of their offensive line. This is a big game to gain experience for those players. Colorado Springs Christian lost their long time starting QB and will be in a little bit of rebuilding mode this year.
Outside Top 15
Byers at Rocky Ford
Merino (8-Man) at Lake County
Ellicott at Ignacio
Class 8-Man
#2 Akron at #11 Granada
A top 15 battle once again this year. Last year Akron blew out Granada. This year Granada is looking to compete better with Akron and return more experience than Akron. Akron does return 2 of its top 3 rushers from a year ago and still will be a top 5 team all year.
#12 Soroco vs Caliche
Caliche had 0 seniors last year and will be much better this year. They could be that sleeper team to sneak into the playoffs. They play a Soroco team that lost 10 seniors but return their starting RB who ran for 1800 yards last season and Soroco has plenty of talent to go along with him.
#13 Sanford at McClave
Sanford is looking to build from last year and they face a team that made the playoffs to open the season.
Outside Top 15
Boise City OK at Wiley
Turpin OK at Springfield
Mancos at Plateau Valley
Del Norte at Sangre De Cristo
Miami Yoder at Las Animas
Class 6-Man
#3 Fleming at #13 North Park
The only 6 Man game in zero week and looks to be a good one. North Park lost 7 seniors but returns some fire power on offense as they look to upset Fleming. Fleming loses their starting QB from last year so replacing him will be a huge key for this team. Fleming returns plenty of talent as they look to grab that elusive state championship.
