Class 2A RPI Rankings and Playoff Situation

http://chsaanow.com/rpi/football/ Official CHSAA Webpage for RPI

(RPI was pulled on Monday 10/2 numbers could change thereafter)

Note:  This is the second week of the RPI.  Things will change probably from week to week so teams just take care of your own business and win.  The formula change from last year to this year give you a bit more control if you just take care of business and win!

Playoffs (Straight from Chsaanow.com): The Top 16 teams in the classification based on the final RPI rankings will be placed into the post-season bracket and the league champion also gets an automatic berth.  If a conference champion is not rankings in the top 16 based on RPI rankings they will replace the lowest ranked team that is not a conference champion in the top 16.

Seeding Criteria (once qualifiers are determined)

  • The following criteria will be taken into consideration when seeding bracket, in no particular order: geography, RPI, common opponents, and head to head competition
  • A conference champion in the top 16 of the final RPI rankings will be a top 8 seed and will host a first round game
  • Aa conference champion no ranked in the top 16 of the final RPI rankings will be placed in the bracket but will not be guaranteed a top 8 seed and will not be guaranteed to host a first round game.
  • Conference opponents will not be paired against one another in the first round.

24 Englewood .473 3-2 .600 .337 .485
25 Montezuma Cortez .454 1-3 .250 .679 .423

Notes: Not a single losing record in the Top 16 of the RPI.  The new formula is definitely rewarding teams for winning games.  Salida and Machebeuf still scare me a bit with a very low OWP both under .350.  As league continues to roll I am very interested in seeing what some RPI numbers will do especially in the weaker leagues.

25 Wray .462 2-3 .400 .450 .575

Notes: A ton of movement in the RPI this week.  A lot of teams that were 2-2 are now 2-3 and they fell into the 18-25 range now.  1 team with a .500 record is in the top 16 and I have a feeling next weeks numbers are going to be very interesting as well.  A lot of teams could move to .500 and their RPIs will change again.  Platte Canyon’s RPI is really low at .313 and with a tough league their RPI will increase but their WP might also suffer.  Bennett OWP or SOS is crazy at .831 only one team is even close to that in 1A and that is Buena Vista at .818 and they are 1-4.

Notes: A lot of winning records in the Top 16.  With one lone 2-3 team in the Top 16.  Six undefeated teams remain in the 8-Man ranks and if they fall which at least 2 of them will because they are in the same league it will be interesting to see what the numbers do.
