Class 6-Man Quarter Finals Playoff Breakdown

#1 Stratton/Liberty vs #9 Otis on 11/4 @1:00pm

#1 Stratton/Liberty opened their playoff run with a dominating 52 to 6 victory over Briggsdale.  Stratton/Liberty opened with 33 points in the 1st quarter and had the mercy rule going before half time.  Defensively Stratton/Liberty gave up 6 points in the second quarter but by then the game was already over.  Stratton/Liberty was led in tackles by sophomore Trevor Frank 13 tackles and junior Levi Shean 12 tackles.  Stratton/Liberty also forced 3 turnovers in the game and returned a punt for a touchdown. Offensively Stratton/Liberty racked up 356 yards of total offense.  Stratton/Liberty threw for 74 yards and 3 touchdowns and junior Tyson Lichty had 35 yards passing and 2 touchdowns.  Stratton/Liberty was effective running the ball rushing for 10.8 yards per carry and racking up 282 yards of rushing.  Their rushing attack was led by senior Jacob McCormick 89 yards rushing on 3 carries and 2 TDs.  Stratton/Liberty opened in dominate fashion but awaiting them in the quarterfinals is a league rival and their first road playoff game.

#9 Otis started their playoff run with a basketball score.  Otis beat Genoa-Hugo 89 to 70 and I kept track of the game and it was 46 to 43 at half time and I knew at that point I knew this was going to be a high scoring game.  Otis was able to grab their biggest lead in the third quarter scoring 28 points in the third quarter to just 6 from Genoa-Hugo.  The third quarter was all Otis needed to finish this game off and win the game.  Defensively Otis had a hard time stopping anything but picked up a few clutch stops in the third quarter.  Otis allowed 597 yards of total offense and gave up 14 TDs.  Otis was the weakest playing run defense giving up 484 yards of rushing 381 yards to one player.  Otis defensively forced 1 turnover.  Otis was led in tackles by senior Tate Goble 24 tackles and senior Tyler Thorn 17 tackles.  The other huge factor in this game was Otis returned 2 kickoff returns for touchdowns and that made the biggest difference in the game.  Offensively Otis was dominating was well racking up 485 yards of total offense and 11 TDs.  Otis only had 39 passing yards and 2 touchdowns.  Otis had 446 yards rushing and was led by junior Bryce Miracle 309 yards rushing and 6 TDs also contributing was senior Tate Goble 136 yards rushing and 2 TDs.  Otis light up the scoreboard and scored the most points they have this year.  Otis now must refocus and figure out how to play better defense.  Otis is playing a much tougher defense this week and this is a huge rematch from during the year.

Stratton/Liberty and Otis have faced each other before.  Stratton/Liberty dominated in that game winning 63-6.  In that game Otis only had 15 yards rushing and never got anything going on offense.  Otis must play better on offense and must get a huge rushing performance from Bryce Miracle again.  Otis also must play better defense.  They are play a run heavy offense and if Stratton/Liberty can run wild it will be a long day for Otis.  Stratton/Liberty must contain the run and force Otis to pass.  If Stratton/Liberty keeps Otis under 200 yards rushing this will be a victory for Stratton/Liberty.  Stratton/Liberty should have a great offensive day as well after Otis gave up 400 yards rushing to Genoa-Hugo and when these teams meet last Stratton/Liberty ran for 307 yards.  I am going with Stratton/Liberty to win big 42-14.

#4 Cheyenne Wells vs #5 North Park on 11/4 @ 1:00pm

#4 Cheyenne Wells opened their playoff run with a 58-18 win over Hanover.  After 1 quarter though things were very uncertain as Cheyenne Wells was only winning 12 to 6.  The second quarter was the difference in the game as Cheyenne Wells jumped out to 32 points in the second quarter and cruised to the victory from there.  The 18 points given up by Cheyenne Wells was the 3rd highest amount they have given up this year.  Defensively Cheyenne Wells did play well and forced 5 turnovers in the game as well as 4 sacks.  Cheyenne Wells was led on defense by sophomore Quade Pelton 11 tackles and 2 sacks and contributing was senior Isarel Bazea 9 tackles and 2 sacks.  Offensively Cheyenne Wells overcame the slow start to the game and finished with 395 yards of total offense.  Cheyenne Wells had 165 yards of passing and 4 TDs all by sophomore Quade Pelton.  Cheyenne Wells rushing attack racked up 230 yards rushing and senior Wyatt Fishler led the way with 126 yards and 2 TDs.  Cheyenne Wells now will face their third toughest opponent on the year and it will be a huge challenge.  Cheyenne Wells must play a complete game and cannot have a slow start to the game.

#5 North Park started their playoff run with an impressive 65-34 win over Sierra Grande.  North Park was winning 14-6 after the first quarter and used a 33-point second quarter to grab a 47 to 28-point lead heading into half time.  North Park defensively turned Sierra Grande into a passing team holding them to just 69 yards rushing.  North Park forced only 1 turnover but turned it into a defensive touchdown and North Park also returned a kickoff for a touchdown.  North Park was led on by senior Nic Martin 9 tackles and senior Blayden Fletcher 9 tackles.  Offensively North Park was very effective and racked up 451 yards of total offense.  North Park was effective passing with Austin Berton throwing for 137 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT.  North Park rushing attack racked up 314 yards and was led by Blayden Fletcher 228 yards rushing and 3 TDs.  North Park is battle tested from playing in the North League.  They will be challenged on both side of the ball and must have their offense ready to play again.

Cheyenne Wells is looking to make another deep run into the playoffs.  They will need their defense to play outstanding this week.  North Park can throw the ball effectively to Cheyenne Wells defense must be top notch.  Cheyenne Wells also must get offense going in the right direction.  Cheyenne Wells must be ready for a very tough game.  North Park also must be ready on defense.  Cheyenne Wells has a very good rushing attack but can throw the ball as well and if North Park can’t slow down Cheyenne Wells then North Park will need another similar performance on offense.  North Park will need another big day from their rushing attack and this should be a very good game.  Cheyenne Wells has the advantage on defense and I think that will be a huge factor in this game.  I am going with Cheyenne Wells to win 35-21.

#3 Peetz vs #11 Fleming on 11/4 @ 1:00pm

#3 Peetz started their playoff run with an impressive 58-8 victory over Eads.  Peetz was in control the whole way and had the mercy rule going by half time.  Defensively Peetz played outstanding holding Eads to just 88 yards of total offense.  Peetz forced 4 turnovers and had 2 sacks in the game.  Peetz was led on defense by Helmuth Wenneker 12 tackles and senior Hunter White 6 tackles.  Peetz also had a special team’s touchdown and a kickoff return for a touchdown.  Peetz didn’t put up huge numbers but had good field position most of the night.  Peetz had 28 yards passing from Tre Fehringer and 3 TDs.  Peetz had 203 yards rushing and was led by Hunter White with 45 yards rushing and 2 TDs.  Peetz dominated this game but must quickly refocus as they have to make the trek to rival Fleming.

#11 Fleming broke a 2-game losing streak and blew past La Veta.  Fleming pulled an impressive upset on La Veta and used a 28-point first half to gain the lead and then cruised to the 52-16 victory.  Fleming limited a very impressive offense to just 186 yards of offense and forced 5 turnovers in the process.  Fleming defensively was led by Brandon Williams 13 tackles and Kobryn Mann 9 tackles and 2 INTs.  Fleming offensively had great field position most of the game and racked up 371 yards of total offense.  Fleming passing attack racked up 88 yards from freshman Kade Comstock.  Fleming rushing attack had 283 yards rushing and was led by senior Kolton Dickinson 222 yards rushing and 4 TDs.  Fleming dominated this game and gains some huge momentum going into their second-round match up.  Fleming will have homefield advantage against their rival Peetz and this should be a good game.

Peetz and Fleming faced each other once this year with Peetz coming out on top 39 to 26.  In the game Fleming out gained Peetz and forced 1 more turnover than Peetz but still was not able to come out on top.  If Fleming fixes some of their problems scoring they could pull this upset.  Peetz must look at the film and figure out what went wrong in the game.  I know Peetz defense is very good but their offense cannot be outgained or give up 1 more turnover than Fleming.  Peetz will be on the road in their rival’s place and this will be a very good game.  Fleming must convert opportunities into points this time around.  I am going with Peetz to beat Fleming in a very good game 35-24.

#2 Prairie vs #7 Kit Carson on 11/4 @ 2:00pm

#2 Prairie opened their playoff run with a 51 to 13 victory over Edison.  Prairie had the mercy rule going by halftime and scored all 51 points in the first half.  Prairie should be well rested for their game against Kit Carson.  Defensively Prairie only gave up the 13 points but did force 2 turnovers and 1 sack.  Defensively Prairie was led by Trenton Holzworth 9 tackles and Lane Goodman 5 tackles.  Prairie offensively came out the gates on fire scoring what they needed in just two quarters.  Prairie had 57 passing yards and 245 yards rushing.  Their offense was led by Trenton Holzworth 64 yards rushing and Coltin Hove 74 yards rushing and 2 TDs.  Prairie will need to come out the gates quickly this week as well as they are facing a playoff veteran team this week.

#7 Kit Carson made quick work of their opponent in the first round and pulled to a 46 to 12 victory over Cotopaxi.  Kit Carson defensively did a good job holding Cotopaxi to 190 yards rushing and only 2 TDs.  Kit Carson had 1 turnover and 3 sacks in the game.  Kit Carson was led on defense by William Hornung 16 tackles and TJ Conaway 13 tackles.  Kit Carson on offense came alive with 361 yards of total offense.  Kit Carso had 126 yards passing and 235 yards rushing.  Kit Carson passing attack was led by junior TJ Conaway 95 yards passing and 3 TDs and Kit Carson rushing attack was led by Jayden Mccombs-farmer 117 yards rushing and 3 TDs.  Kit Carson now must prepare for a very good offensive and defensive team but they do have the playoff experience on their side.

Prairie will host their second straight playoff game.  This is a great advantage for Prairie and must keep building off the momentum they gained in their first playoff game.  Prairie should be able to run the ball with some success against Kit Carson but must take care of the ball.  Prairie defensively must force Kit Carson to throw the ball and win the battle at the line of scrimmage.  Kit Carson must play great defense this week and must be prepared for a dynamic offense.  Kit Carson offensively must be able to score points and force an inexperience playoff team to play a full four quarters.  I am giving Prairie the nod on both Offense and Defense in this game.  I also picking them in this game and have them winning 42-27.
