
Class 6-Man Semifinals Playoff Breakdown
#1 Stratton/Liberty vs #4 Cheyenne Wells on 11/11 @ 1:00pm
#1 Stratton/Liberty quarterfinals matchup was a dog fight and was their closest game of the year. Stratton/Liberty came from behind to beat Otis 40-32. Stratton/Liberty was trailing at half 18-8 but used back to back 16-point quarters to overcome the deficit and pull of the win. Defensively Stratton/Liberty gave up 273 yards of offense but did force 2 turnovers on the day. Stratton/Liberty was led on defense by Levi Shean 14 tackles and Phillip Pickard 9 tackles, 3 TFL, and 1 sack. Stratton/Liberty must improve their defense and be ready for a dynamic offense. Stratton/Liberty on offense did not complete a pass but had 294 yards rushing and 5 TDs. Stratton/Liberty was led on offense by Jacob McCormick 173 yards rushing and 2 TDs also helping was Eltan Yarger 121 yards rushing and 3 TDs. Stratton/Liberty did not do a good job of taking care of the football and had 6 turnovers on the day. Stratton/Liberty used their defense to stay in this game despite the turnovers but Stratton/Liberty cannot expect the same this week and win.
#4 Cheyenne Wells dominated in their Quarterfinals game getting the mercy rule going by the third quarter and giving up the 14 points in the 4th quarter when the game was in hand. Cheyenne Wells defensively played outstanding not giving up a TD till the fourth quarter. Cheyenne Wells forced 3 turnovers and had 6 sacks in the game. Cheyenne Wells was led on defense by Quade Pelton 20 tackles and 4 sacks also helping was Wyatt Fishler 9 tackles and a fumble recovery. Cheyenne Wells defense must play better this time around and must be ready to stop the run. Cheyenne Wells offensively dominated the game racking up 359 yards of total offense. Cheyenne Wells had 117 yards passing and 242 yards rushing. Cheyenne Wells offense was led by Wyatt Fishler 119 yards rushing, 50 yards passing and 4 total TDs. Also helping on offense was Quade Pelton 67 yards passing, 81 yards rushing, and 1 TD. Cheyenne Wells offense will be tested this week but must be able to score points against a very good defense.
Stratton/Liberty was nearly upset in the Quarterfinals and I am sure they were working on taking care of the football. Stratton/Liberty cannot expect to turn the ball over 6 times and still win the game. Stratton/Liberty defense must play outstanding again this week and must force Cheyenne Wells to be one sided on offense yet again. Cheyenne Wells must improve from the first time these two teams meet. In that game Cheyenne Wells had -4 yards rushing and struggled getting their offense going. Cheyenne Wells must score points to be in this game. Cheyenne Wells also must stop the run or will be a long afternoon for them. Stratton/Liberty is the favorite in this game and I am picking Stratton/Liberty to win a very good game. I am picking Stratton/Liberty due to their defense and Stratton/Liberty ability to run the football. I have Stratton/Liberty 42 Cheyenne Wells 28.
#3 Peetz vs #7 Kit Carson on 11/11 @ 1:00pm
#3 Peetz was in a fight in the quarterfinals against their rival Fleming. The difference in the game was the lone 8 points scored in the third quarter. Peetz pulled off the 40-28 victory and advanced into the semifinals. Peetz defense and special teams were the difference in the game. Peetz forced 2 INTs and 1 sack in the game to help clinch the game. Peetz also had a kickoff return for a touchdown as well. Peetz was led on defense by Helmuth Wenneker 12 tackles and Bryson Long 10 tackles. Peetz escaped the game due to their defense and special teams coming up with clutch plays. They will need a huge game again this week. Peetz offense struggled a bit at times and must do a better job this week of taking care of the football. Peetz had 3 turnovers in the game. Peetz had 239 total yards of offense in the game they had 43 yards passing and 196 yards rushing. Leading Peetz on offense was Helmuth Wenneker 81 yards rushing and 2 TDs also helping on offense was Bryson Long 49 yards rushing and 1 TD. Peetz must take care of the football this week and must get their offense going again in the right direction.
#7 Kit Carson pulled a huge upset in the Quarterfinals knocking off the #2 seed Prairie 32-26. Kit Carson had to hold on late as they saw their lead shrink to 6 points. Kit Carson got a huge stop in the 4th quarter and was able to hold off a furious comeback by Prairie. Kit Carson on defense gave up 296 yards of offense and forced 2 turnovers in the game. Kit Carson was led by Joe Bryan 12 total tackles and William Hornung 11 total tackles. Kit Carson also had a fumble return for a touchdown which was the difference in the game, the return was by Jayden McCombs-Farmer. Kit Carson was able to shut down one of the better offenses in the state and will need a very similar effort this week. Kit Carson offensively did enough to win the game. Kit Carson had 234 yards of total offense and were led by their rushing attack which had 176 yards and 58 yards passing. Kit Carson did a very good job of taking care of the football and had 0 turnovers in the game. Kit Carson was led on offense by Jayden Mccombs-farmer 164yards rushing and 2 TDs. Kit Carson also had contributions from T.J. Conaway 58 yards passing and 1 TD. Kit Carson must continue to take care of the football.
Peetz must take care of the football and cannot allow Kit Carson short fields. Peetz defense is good but you must make Kit Carson offense beat you in this game. Peetz offense will be tested by Kit Carson but they should have some success. Kit Carson must force Peetz to throw the ball. Kit Carson must play great run defense this week and try and force turnovers where ever possible. Kit Carson offensively must continue to take care of the ball but must be able to run the ball. Peetz is the favorite but this will also be a very good game. I think this will be a defensive battle and see the scores being very low. I am going with Peetz in this game. Peetz 21 Kit Carson 14.
