#1 Sedgwick County vs #2 West Grand on 11/25 @ 1:00pm
#1 Sedgwick County moved into the state championship defeating Holly 41-8. Sedgwick County had the running clock by half time and a very quick start to the game got Sedgwick County moving in the right direction. Sedgwick County is looking for a three-peat. Sedgwick County defensively played outstanding and had an early goal line stand to set the tone for the game. Sedg Co had 1 turnover in the game and 12 players reported a tackle. Dalton Carlson had 7 tackles and Layne Green had 6 tackles and 2 TFL. Sedgwick County defensively played outstanding and will need a similar effort this week. Sedgwick County is facing a balanced attack but also a team that can run the ball effectively. Sedgwick County is facing a very good offensive team that has plenty of weapons. Offensively Sedgwick County was outstanding as well with 389 yards of total offense. Senior QB Brennan Ehmke had 138 yards passing and 2 TDs. Sedgwick County had 251 yards rushing and were led by Layne Green 196 yards rushing and 3 TDs. Sedgwick County has finally posted stats on the year and I wish I would have seen some of these stats. Senior QB Brennan Ehmke has 1627 yards passing and 20 TDs and their leading rusher is Layne Green with 1525 yards rushing and 22 TDs. Both players must have huge games this week for Sedgwick County to capture their third straight title. Sedgwick County must get off to a quick start again this week offensively and capture the momentum early.
#2 West Grand was in a fight with #14 Soroco in the semifinals. West Grand was trailing 22-8 at half time and needed to dig deep to pull the comeback. West Grand then scored 16 points in the third quarter and 14 points in the fourth quarter to pull the 38 to 28 victory over Soroco. West Grand defensively struggled early on but picked it up in the second half. They gave up 349 yards of total offense. They did hold RB Jace Logan to just 207 yards and I did say that if they kept him under 250 they would win this game. West Grand had 3 fumble recoveries in the game. West Grand had a huge defensive game from Josh O’Hotto 19 tackles and Noah Schroeder 15 tackles. West Grand will have to play their best defensive game of the season if they plan to pull the huge upset. West Grand will have to stop a very balanced attack and must bring their toughest defensive effort of the season. West Grand must stop Sedgwick County from getting off to a quick start. Offensively West Grand had a great game with 483 yards of total offense. QB Brady Gore had a great game with 184 yards passing, 137 yards rushing and 2 TDs. Brady Gore must have his best game of the season this week and he will be one of the keys to beating Sedgwick County. West Grand had 299 yards rushing and Luis Dominguez led all rushers with 157 yards and 3 TDs. West Grand will be looking for Luis Dominguez to also have a special day running the football. West Grand offense will be the key to this game. West Grand must be able to score with Sedgwick County. West Grand also must take care of the football and avoid any turnovers in the game.
West Grand will be looking to play their best game of the season. They have not put a complete game together in the playoffs and must look to do that in the state championship. West Grand will have to play physical football and must fin da way defensively to get stops. I think the first and third quarters of this game will be huge for West Grand. Sedgwick County has either blown teams out right out the gates or opened with a huge third quarter. West Grand must weather the storm in both quarters and must score on offense. Sedgwick County must get out to a quick start and put pressure on West Grand to match their offense. Sedgwick County defensively must force West Grand to throw the football. Sedgwick County offensively has yet to be slowed down this year and must continue that in the state championship. Sedgwick County is the favorite in this game. They have homefield advantage and playing for their third straight championship will have some buzz in the air. I am going with Sedgwick County in this game. I think their offense will be too much to stop and they will snag their third straight title. I am going Sedgwick County 41 West Grand 21.
