#4 Strasburg faced off against #3 Centauri in the Class 1A State Championship. This was one of the best games in the entire state in all classes on Saturday and one of the best games in 1A for the entire year. My only complaint about this game is the referees and the number of flags thrown in the game and they influenced the game much more than they should have. Strasburg and Centauri were equally matched up and it showed through the entire game. Strasburg struck early in the game taking their second drive and scoring making the score 7-0. The score stayed that way until a fourth quarter touchdown made the score 7-7. Centauri then made one final push at winning the game driving the ball all the way to the Strasburg 4-yard line. Strasburg made a goal line stand stopping Centauri on fourth down and forced overtime. In overtime #1 Strasburg had the ball first and an errant snap of the QBs head cost them valuable field position and knocked them out of field goal range. Centauri forced the Interception and got the ball on offense next. Centauri then ran two plays moving the ball to the 6-yard line. Centauri on third down decided to try a double reverse pass and had the ball thrown into the end zone for a touchdown but offensive pass interference was called and backed up Centauri 15 yards. Then on the following play Centauri had a fumble on a pass reception and double overtime would be needed. In double overtime Centauri received the ball first. Centauri ran three plays that moved them down to the 4-yard line and it was decision time for Centauri. Centauri elected to go for it on fourth down and were stopped at the line of scrimmage and Strasburg would have the ball and needed just a field goal to win. Strasburg got the ball next and ran three straight QB sneaks and set up the field goal attempt. The ball was spotted about the 4 yards line and a 20-yard field goal was all that was needed. Centauri had a timeout in their pocket and called it to try and ice the kicker. Strasburg senior kicker came out after the timeout and with Centauri knowing the needed to block the kick brought everyone, the Snap was good the hold was good and the kick was good and Strasburg was your 1A State Championship 10-7. Like I said this was one of the best games I have watched not a ton of scoring but when you put two evenly matched defensive team this is what is expected. Once again Congratulations to the 1A State Champions Strasburg High School and to Centauri High School on a great season.
Class 1A Players of the Game
Offensive Player of the Game
QB Jacob Miller 150 yards rushing and 1 TD Sr. Strasburg High School
Defensive Player of the Game
Strasburg Defensive Unit. I cannot pinpoint a single player but instead the entire unit deserves credit for two goal line stands and holding Centauri to just 7 points.
