Girls Basketball League Predictions Class 3A
Continuing into the Girls side of Class 3A there are going to be some huge battles to make it to state and picking some leagues top 3 will be tough. Once again, I would predict the playoff but with RPI weighing heavily into the process I figured picking the Top 3 would be a good way to predict who makes it into the State Tournament. Once the RPI is released I will start doing my normal playoff breakdown and will start making game predictions. Remember that in Class 3A only the Top two spots are guaranteed into the State Tournament.
Confluence
- Weld Central
- DSST-College View
- Arvada
The Confluence is one of the weaker League in 3A with only two teams over .500. Picking the top two was easy but picking the #3 team was much more difficult and possibly they would not even make the stat tournament anyway. #1 is Weld Central who is off to a solid 8-2 start. Weld Central has some solid wins against Roaring Fork and Strasburg but picked up a tough loss to Brush and Falcon. Weld Central should walk away with the league title. The #2 team is DSST-College View who is 6-2. DSST-College View has not played a very tough schedule and have losses to Cornerstone Christian and Stargate School. DSST-College View will have a shot at making it to The State Tournament but will be challenged by Arvada and Englewood. My #3 team is Arvada who is 3-5 on the year. Arvada has a good win against Englewood already and will be in the running for the #2 spot in the Confluence league. I do think that only the Top 2 from this league will make the State Tournament.
Frontier
- Bennett
- The Academy
- Middle Park
The Frontier league is probably the second weakest league in 3A. The league currently has zero teams ranked in the Top 10 and probably won’t this season. The Frontier though has some quality teams that could make thing tough for the rest of the Class. My #1 team is Bennett at 5-3. Bennett has won 3 straight games and opened their league games with a solid win over Pinnacle 55-39. Bennett also has good wins against Monte Vista and Strasburg. Bennett won’t have a cake walk though with the league title and will be challenged by a host of teams. At #2 I have The Academy. Academy is currently 4-4 and have played tough against some solid opponents. The Academy has close losses to University (by 2) and Jefferson Academy (by 3). The Academy will have a good shot at winning the league title as well. Academy must play solid basketball the rest of the way and will need to snag some early season wins. My #3 team is Middle Park who is 4-3. Middle Park has played a weaker schedule so far, this season and not much is known about this team. Middle Parks best wins is against West Grand and their 3 losses are to Machebeuf, Summit, and St. Mary’s Academy. Middle Park must set a good ton in January and must grab some early season league wins. Lake County, Platte Canyon, and DSST-Stapleton will also be looking for a top 3 finishes.
Intermountain
- Centauri
- Pagosa Springs
- Alamosa
The Intermountain League has been split into two groups, in one group we have the Top 2 teams (Centauri & Pagosa Springs) and then the rest of the league (Alamosa, Monte Vista, Montezuma Cortez, and Bayfield). My #1 team is Centauri at 9-0. Centauri has some very solid wins to open the season with wins against Del Norte (twice) and Lamar. Centauri will have to avoid any trap games this season and if they can they should be squaring off against Pagosa Springs for the league title. My #2 team is Pagosa Springs at 6-2. Pagosa Springs has two good loses to St. Mary’s (#2 in 3A) and Colorado Springs Christian (#3 in 3A). The losses were good ones, but both were by 15+ points. Pagosa Springs started league off with a solid 53-31 win over Alamosa and was first big obstacle for this team in league play. Pagosa Springs like Centauri must avoid trap games and they should meet in the District Tournament. Picking the 3rd place team was a tough choice and I had it narrowed down to Alamosa and Monte Vista. I gave the slight edge to Alamosa. Alamosa is currently 4-3 with losses to Palmer Ridge (4A), Canon City (4A), and Pagosa Springs. Alamosa will be chased and will have to play consistent basketball to keep the #3 spot. Like I said Monte Vista, Montezuma Cortez, and Bayfield will all be chasing Alamosa at #3.
Metro
- Kent Denver
- Colorado Academy
- Mary’s Academy
The Metro League will be very competitive this year with 6 solid teams and all fighting for the #1 spot. I do believe that Kent Denver is the favorite to win the Metro League. Kent Denver is 8-1 on the year with their lone loss coming to Manitou Springs by 13. Kent Denver though has bounced back nicely beating University, Eaton, Academy, and Denver Christian. Kent Denver opened league with a won against Faith Christian on 1/10 and get going in the right direction. Kent Denver will have 5 other teams to hold off for the league crown. My pick at #2 is Colorado Academy at 6-3. Colorado Academy has played a tough schedule to open the season. Colorado Academy has losses to St. Mary’s, Vanguard, and Eaton. In two of their 3 losses they lost by 15+ points but Colorado Academy also has some solid wins against Kennedy (4A), Buena Vista, and Machebeuf. Colorado Academy must continue to get solid minutes from some of the younger girls and they should challenge Kent Denver for the #1 spot. At #3 I have picked St. Mary’s Academy at 8-1. St. Mary’s Academy is off to a blazing start and their lone blemish was a loss to 2A Denver Christian. St. Mary’s Academy has opened league play on a solid note beating Jefferson Academy by 8 and gaining some early separation from the pack. St. Mary’s Academy though will have to hold off Jefferson Academy, Machebeuf, and Lutheran for that #3 spot.
Patriot
- Resurrection Christian
- Sterling
- Eaton
The Patriot league looks to be one of the more competitive races for all 3 spots. The Patriot league is also 6 teams deep and some early wins have show anything can happen. My #1 team is Resurrection Christian at 7-1. Resurrection Christian is off to a great start and their lone loss was a 6-point loss to 4A Falcon. Resurrection Christian lone knock is their lack of a tough schedule. They have good wins against Denver Christian, Heritage Christian, and Hinkley. Resurrection Christian will have their hands full trying to win the Patriot league. At #2 I have Sterling at 4-4. Sterling opened the season with a tough schedule but have since won 3 of their last 4 games including upset wins against Manitou Springs and University. Sterling has some new faces in the rotation and now the game experience is starting to help their development and have really played well as of late. Sterling could easily over take Resurrection Christian for the Top spot but must take care of their own business to avoid be overtaken by the other 4 teams chasing them. At #3 I have Eaton at 7-2. At times this season Eaton has looked to be one of the better teams in 3A but one interesting loss to Prospect Ridge had people question how good Eaton was. Eaton responded to that loss by winning 3 straight including solid wins against Machebeuf and Colorado Academy. Eaton will be a contender if they can continue to grow and they will be a very tough team to beat. The three teams chasing for a top 3 spots are University, Liberty Common, and Brush.
Tri-Peaks
- Mary’s
- Colorado Springs Christian
- Lamar
The Best League in 3A Girls Basketball is the Tri-Peaks with 3 Top 5 teams and the defending State Champion Lamar. The Tri-Peaks also has two other very solid teams with Vanguard and Manitou Springs which will make this league very competitive. I would not doubt to see all 3 of the Top 3 teams in the Elite 8. My #1 team in the Tri Peaks is St. Mary’s at 9-0. St. Mary’s has solid wins against Lutheran, Pagosa Springs, Colorado Academy, Lamar, and Pueblo East. St. Mary’s kicked their league schedule off against Lamar and gaining the early edge on Lamar is a huge key for this team. St. Mary’s still must play Colorado Springs Christian and that will be for the #1 seed in the League Tournament. At #2 I have Colorado Springs Christian at 7-2. Colorado Springs Christian is also off to a great start with both of their losses coming to top 4A and 5A teams (Pueblo West & Fruita Monument. Colorado Springs Christian also has solid wins against Jefferson Academy, Pueblo Centennial, Canon City, and Rampart. Colorado Springs Christian will challenge for the #1 spot and when these two teams clash it will be a great game. My #3 team is Lamar at 6-2. Lamar has not played as tough of a schedule as St. Mary’s and Colorado Springs Christian to open the season. Lamar has solid wins against Swink and Pueblo Central. Lamar lost their main two guards from last year and has shown in their losses to Centauri and St. Mary’s. Lamar will be very tough to beat still and could see them still winning the league title. Two other very solid teams in Vanguard and Manitou Springs will also challenge these top teams but they will be looking to lock up the #4 and #5 spots.
Western Slope
- Cedaredge
- Delta
- Moffat County
The Western Slope league will be a fun race to watch especially with 5 solid teams. My #1 team is Cedaredge at 7-0. Cedaredge picked up a big mental advantage over Delta with a 47 to 43 OT win. Cedaredge also opened league play with a 40 to 15 win over Olathe. Cedaredge will have 1/16 circle on their calendar when they face Delta. #2 is Delta at 5-1. Delta lone blemish was the loss to Cedaredge. Delta opened league play with a good win against Roaring Fork. Delta will have a shot at revenge on 1/16. My #3 team is Moffat County at 6-2. Moffat County has two tough losses to Soroco and Mead. Moffat County has played well to start the season and will need to transition that to try and win the league title. Moffat County opened league play with a blowout win over Aspen. Moffat County does not play Delta or Cedaredge till later in the season. Grand Valley and Roaring Fork are two other teams looking to sneak into the Top 3.
