Football Offseason News (Mainly Final Football Alignments)
Immediate 2018 Season Changes
Football Practice will start on August 6th. Additional, this change will build in a bye week for Classes 4A thru 6-Man.
The Lead up to full contact will be as follows: Two Days in helmets, Two Days of Full pad with Limited contact, and one day of full pads and full contact. Scrimmages will be allowed on August 16th.
The First Regular season games will be allowed on August 23rd.
No Longer will the first week of competition be know as Zero Week.
Existing approved dates of the postseason remain in place, it leaves a bye week during the regular season for 6-Man thru 4A.
Class 2A and 3A will play their championship games at a Neutral Site.
RPI Changes
The Technology Committee Reported a change to the RPI Formula. The Recommendation is to move away from the standard formula 25% WP, 50% OWP, 25% OOWP. The new recommendation is to move to the 30%WP, 40% OWP, 30% OOWP.
The recommendation was delivered to CHSAA Board of Directors during their meeting on Wednesday. The Board will Vote on that recommendation in February.
The Committee also commissioned a survey of CHSAA member schools asking for their input on the RPI. More than 220 schools responded. That survey showed that:
- Accuracy is the most important factor in a formula.
- They want more weight on their own winning percentage.
- They believe that RPI should be used to set postseason fields, but not to seed them.

Final football alignments for the 2018 and 2019 seasons are below, separated by classification, are below.
These alignments have been approved by the Legislative Council at its January 2018 meeting.
These alignments were developed through a collaborative effort based on feedback from coaches, administrators, conference czars and football committee members over the 2016-17 and 2017-18 school years. The CHSAA office facilitated the meetings, but these alignments came from the leagues and schools.
Some of these conferences have yet to be named, and some labels are placeholders.
