Boys Basketball Class 2A Playoff Projections

To pick the Top 4 teams for each district it heavily depends on the seeding for the District Tournaments. I currently only know of two District tournament seedings for the rest I am going off who I think are the best four teams in each District. Seeding of the District Tournament can really affect who gets into Regionals. District are allowed to set their District Tournament however they want and if you look at District 1 all 8 teams are playing Tuesday and no teams are protected. District 6 is protecting their #1 and #2 seeds giving them byes until the Semi-finals and a for sure lock into Regionals. Those are the only two brackets I know.

District 1

Since I know how District 1 is being seeded the Matchups are #1 Del Norte vs #8 Custer County, #2 Sanford vs #7 Crested Butte, #3 Sargent vs #6 Cripple Creek, #4 South Park vs #5 Center. Based on that Bracket I am Giving Del Norte, Sanford, Sargent all wins due to hosting and previous wins. The biggest battle will be between #4 South Park and #5 Center. The last time these two teams meet Center lost by 3 and this time I am going with Center to beat South Park. My fourth team will be Center. Sargent will also need to play solid to avoid an upset by Cripple Creek. I have Del Norte winning league and hosting a regional.

District 2

Last year District 2 did a normal 8 team bracket with no protection for the #1 seed. In District 2 the matchups would be #1 Yuma vs #8 Wiggins, #2 Sedgwick County vs #7 Wray, #3 Holyoke vs #6 Merino, and #4 Haxtun vs #5 Akron. The two teams I believe will be locks into the Semi-finals will be Yuma and Sedgwick County. Holyoke vs Merino could be a very interesting game as Merino upset Haxtun a few weeks ago so this will not be a cake walk for Holyoke. I still think Holyoke wins this game. The other interesting game is Akron vs Haxtun. The last time these two teams meet it was a 3-point game and the game was in Haxtun. I think this will be a very good game and come down to the wire. I am going with Akron to pull an upset and move into the Semi-Finals and a Regional Berth. The 4 teams would then be Yuma, Sedgwick County, Holyoke, and Akron. I am picking Yuma to win District 2 and host a regional.

District 3

District 3 only gets 3 teams into regionals and the normal #1 team Ignacio was just upset by Telluride which makes the District Tournament very interesting. This is a 6 team District and what District 3 did last year was have two play in games and then do a 4 team tournament. I will follow that same model. #4 Dolores would face #5 Ridgway in the play in game and I am picking Dolores and the #3 team is Telluride and they would face #6 Norwood and I am picking Telluride to win. So then it would be #1 Ignacio vs #4 Dolores and #2 Mancos vs #3 Telluride. I am picking Ignacio and Telluride to play each other in the championship and Mancos to finish third. My 3 teams would then by Ignacio, Telluride, and Mancos with Ignacio as my District Champion.

District 4

District 4 is like all the other District and gets 4 teams into regionals. Last year District 4 only had 6 teams and did a 6 team bracket this year they have 7 teams and I will do a 7 team bracket with the #1 seed getting the bye. I have no idea how District 4 will do their seeding, but I am going to use the RPI to seed this District like I believe they did last year. Off RPI your seeding would be Limon, Byers, Denver Christian, Front Range Christian, Burlington, Denver Academy, Nederland. So matchups would be #4 Front Range Christian vs #5 Burlington, #3 Denver Christian vs #6 Denver Academy, #2 Byers vs #7 Nederland. I have #5 Burlington winning to face #1 Limon and #2 Byers facing #3 Denver Christian. My four teams would then be Limon, Byers, Denver Christian, and Burlington. My District champion is Byers and they would host a regional.

District 5

District 5 gets 5 teams into regionals and with plenty of good teams to pick from this could be one of the very competitive brackets. Last year District 5 did an 8 team bracket with 3 play-in games. The top 5 teams all get into the 8 team bracket and the rest had to win their way into the bracket. Your top 5 teams in order would by Rangely, Meeker, Paonia, Vail Christian, and Hotchkiss. The play-in games would be #8 Plateau Valley vs #9 Hayden, #7 Vail Mountain vs #10 Caprock Academy, and #6 West Grand vs #11 Soroco. I am picking Plateau Valley, Vail Mountain, and West Grand to advance into the 8 team bracket. Last year they did not do a consolation bracket and I am guessing this year they are going to so they can get their 5^th place team. Matchups in the first round would be #1 Rangely vs #8 Plateau Valley, #4 Vail Christian vs #5 Hotchkiss, #2 Meeker vs #7 Vail Mountain, #3 Paonia vs #6 West Grand. I am picking Rangely, Vail Christian, Meeker, and Paonia to all win and secure a regional spot. The consolation bracket have #8 Plateau Valley vs #5 Hotchkiss, #7 Vail Mountain vs #6 West Grand. I have West Grand facing Hotchkiss for the 5^th spot with West Grand edging Hotchkiss for the fifth spot. My 5 teams would then by Rangely, Meeker, Paonia, Vail Christian, and West Grand and my District Champion is Rangely who would host a regional.

District 6

District 6 has already released their bracket and it start tonight 2/15 with the Pigtail round. #5 John Mall vs #8 Las Animas and #6 Hoehne faces #7 Swink. The two winners will advance to the quarter final. I have John Mall winning to face #4 Swallows Charter and Hoehne winning to face #3 Rocky Ford. Crowley County and Fowler are protected and automatically qualify for regionals. I am picking Rocky Ford and Swallows Charter to win their games and qualify for Regionals. My 4 teams would be Crowley County, Fowler, Rocky Ford, and Swallows Charter and my District Champion is Crowley County and they will host a regional.

District 7

District 7 is a normal 8 team bracket and I am not sure how they will seed their bracket due to Clear Creek playing a 3A schedule. I am going to make an assumption and give Clear Creek the #2 seed due to record. The bracket would be #1 Highland vs #8 Lyons, #2 Clear Creek vs #7 Twin Peaks Charter, #3 Dawson School vs #6 Gilpin County, #4 Dayspring Christian vs #5 Union Colony Prep. I believe Highland and Clear Creek will win their games easily, but the other two games should be very competitive. I am going with #6 Gilpin County to upset Dawson School and Dayspring Christian to beat Union Colony Prep. My four teams would then be Highland, Clear Creek, Dayspring Christian, and Gilpin County and I have Highland as my District champion and will host a regional.

District 8

District 8 has 9 teams in their District but only the Top 8 make it to the District tournament. With that said it looks like 3 teams are tied with 1-6 records. Fountain Valley has one league game against Dolores Huerta and if they win they win and Colorado Springs School and Miami-Yoder lose their final league they qualify for District if Fountain Valley loses to Dolores Huerta like I am predicting then Colorado Springs Schools and Miami-Yoder qualify off head to head wins. So your bracket would then be #1 Calhan vs #8 Miami-Yoder, #2 Simla vs #7 Colorado Springs School, #3 Evangelical Christian vs #6 Peyton, #4 Ellicott vs #5 Dolores Huerta. I believe Calhan, Simla, and ECA should all win their first game ECA could struggle with Peyton but I think they will sneak the win out. Ellicott vs Dolores Huerta could be a very interesting game and Peyton could still move past Dolores Huerta in the standings as well. I believe Ellicott will beat Dolores Huerta for the #4 spot. My four teams are Calhan, Simla, ECA, and Ellicott. My District champion would be Calhan and they would host a regional.

Class 2A

District/Regionals/State:

Identical Format for both Boys and Girls

8 Districts shall qualify a specified number of teams to the regional tournaments as follows:
4 Teams- District 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 8; 5 teams-District 5; 3 teams-District 3

District Champions shall be seeded 1-8 based on RPI and shall host the regional Tournaments

The remainder of the teams shall be seeded 9-32 by RPI, Avoiding first round district matchups
RPI seeds 25-32 may be moved to accommodate geography if it benefits the entire bracket

8 regional winners shall be re-seeded and play a consolation bracket
