Girls Basketball Class 2A Playoff Projections

District 1

District 1 is a normal 8 team bracket with 4 team qualifying for state. 1 win in the first round gets you into regionals but of course team are hoping for the District Championship and of course to host a regional. District 1 bracket works out like this #1 Del Norte vs #8 Crested Butte, #2 Sanford vs #7 Cripple Creek, #3 Sargent vs #6 South Park, #4 Custer County vs #5 Center. Del Norte, Sanford, and Sargent are all expected to win and the best matchup of the first round will be Custer County vs Center. These two face off Saturday and the winner will host when they face each other Tuesday. I am going with Center to pull of an upset and advance to Regionals. My 4 teams advancing to regionals are Del Norte, Sanford, Sargent, and Center. My District champion is Del Norte and they will host a regional.

District 2

District 2 is a normal 8 team bracket with 4 teams qualifying for State. There are 3 very good team in District 2 but the #4 vs #5 matchup once again will be the telling tale. Holyoke and Wray both also challenged Yuma during the regular season and seeing if one of them can pull an upset in the District Championship will be a must watch. The District 2 bracket could be #1 Yuma vs #8 Akron, #2 Wray vs #7 Sedgwick County, #3 Holyoke vs #6 Wiggins, #4 Haxtun vs #5 Merino. Merino vs Haxtun could be a very good game but Haxtun did beat Merino by double digits and will look to repeat that effort and secure their spot in Regionals. I am going with Yuma, Wray, Holyoke, and Haxtun as my 4 teams with Yuma s my District Champion and will host a regional.

District 3

District 3 only gets 3 teams into Regionals and also only 4 teams qualify for the District Tournament. The #1 seed and #2 seed are guaranteed a spot in the District Tournament, but the rest must win 1 game to get into the main tournament. The play-in games are #3 Norwood vs #6 Ridgway and #4 Telluride vs #5 Mancos. I am going Norwood and Telluride to win and advance into the District Tournament. The matchups in the District Tournament would be #1 Ignacio vs #4 Telluride and #2 Dolores vs #3 Norwood. I expect Ignacio and Dolores to both win setting up Telluride vs Norwood for the #3 spot. I am going with Ignacio, Dolores, and Norwood as my 3 teams with Ignacio as my District Champion and will host a Regional.

District 4

District 4 is a 7 team District and using the RPI to seed is how I treated the boys side. If it’s a 7 team bracket then the #1 team gets a bye and the rest have to play. My seeding based off RPI would be #1 Denver Christian, #2 Limon, #3 Burlington, #4 Byers, #5 Front Range Christian, #6 Nederland, #7 Lotus School. The matchups would be #4 Byers vs #5 Front Range Christian, #3 Burlington vs #6 Nederland, #2 Limon vs #7 Lotus School. I expect Byers, Burlington, and Limon to all win and punch their ticket to Regionals. My 4 teams would then by Denver Christian, Limon, Burlington, Byers with Denver Christian winning the District Title and hosting a regional.

District 5

District 5 gets 5 teams into regionals and they have a massive 10 team District Tournament and some very solid teams will have to battle for 5 spots. District 5 will have 2 play-in games to advance into the 8 team District Tournament. The 6 Top teams to automatically advance are Soroco, Rangely, Meeker, Vail Christian, Paonia, Hotchkiss. There are only 2 Play-in games on the girls side as there are only 10 teams they are #8 Hayden vs #9 West Grand, #7 Plateau Valley vs #10 Caprock Academy. I am picking Hayden and Plateau Valley to win and advance to the District Tournament. The District Tournament seeding would be #1 Soroco vs #8 Hayden, #2 Rangely vs #7 Plateau Valley, #3 Meeker vs #6 Hotchkiss, #4 Vail Christian vs #5 Paonia. The losers still have a chance at the #5 spot. I am picking Soroco, Rangely, Meeker, and Vail Christian to all win and lock up a regional spot. The consolation side would have #8 Hayden vs #5 Paonia and #6 Hotchkiss vs #7 Plateau Valley. I am picking #5 Paonia and #6 Hotchkiss to meet and face off for the #5 spot and I am picking Paonia to win and advance to regionals. My 5 teams would be Soroco, Rangely, Meeker, Vail Christian, and Paonia. My District Champion would be Soroco and they would host a regional.

District 6

District 6 is back to 4 teams getting into Regionals and they have already released their bracket. The Pigtail Round starts Tonight February 15^th. The games are #5 Crowley County vs #8 Swallows Charter and #6 Hoehne vs #7 John Mall. I am picking Crowley County and Hoehne to win and advance into the District Tournament. The #1 and #2 teams are protected and automatically advance to regionals. #4 Las Animas will face Crowley County and #3 Rocky Ford will face Hoehne. I am picking Rocky Ford and Las Animas to win and advance to Regionals. My 4 teams would be Swink, Fowler, Rocky Ford, and Las Animas. My District Champion would be Swink and they would host a regional.

District 7

District 7 is a normal 8 team bracket with no teams protected. I am still not sure how they will seed their bracket. On the boys side I went with records and I will do the same with the girls side. If anyone has any information let me know and can adjust. The bracket could be #1 Clear Creek vs #8 Twin Peaks Charter, #2 Highland vs #7 Gilpin County, #3 Lyons vs #6 Union Colony Prep, #4 Dayspring Christian vs #5 Dawson School. I expect the top 3 teams to all walk away with wins and a great matchup will be #4 Dayspring Christian vs #5 Dawson School. Dayspring Christian head to head beat them by 14 and I am going with a similar result and have Dayspring Christian advancing to Regionals. My 4 teams would be Clear Creek, Highland, Lyons, and Dayspring Christian. My District Champion is Highland and they will host a regional

District 8

District 8 has 9 teams in their District but only 8 qualify for the District Tournament according to last year bracket but I could be wrong. If I am correct then Miami-Yoder would be out of the running for the District Tournament. The bracket could be #1 Simla vs #8 Fountain Valley, #2 Ellicott vs #7 Dolores Huerta, #3 Calhan vs #6 Evangelical Christian, #4 Peyton vs #6 Colorado Springs School. I think the Top 3 teams will all win but the matchup between Peyton and Colorado Springs School will be a very good game. Peyton and Colorado Springs School have faced off already this season with Peyton winning by 6 but they do play again tonight 2/15 and that could give one team momentum. I am going with Peyton to win 3 times against Colorado Springs School and advance to Regionals. My 4 teams would be Simla, Ellicott, Calhan, and Peyton. My District Champion is Simla and they will host a regional.

Identical Format for both Boys and Girls

8 Districts shall qualify a specified number of teams to the regional tournaments as follows:
4 Teams- District 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 8; 5 teams-District 5; 3 teams-District 3

District Champions shall be seeded 1-8 based on RPI and shall host the regional Tournaments

The remainder of the teams shall be seeded 9-32 by RPI, avoiding first round district matchups
RPI seeds 25-32 may be moved to accommodate geography if it benefits the entire bracket

8 regional winners shall be re-seeded and play a consolation bracket
