MileHigh Prep Report Preseason Rankings Class 2A
Note: I am just going to quickly give the rankings and a quick breakdown of what they are returning. Later on in August full league breakdown.
Class 2A
| Rank | Team | Notes |
| #1 | Bayfield HS
Defending State Champions |
Bayfield lost a ton of talent from their State Championship team but return a lot of talent in their skill position group. Bayfield will rise and fall with the development of their offensive line and their Defense. |
| #2 | Platte Valley HS
Made the playoffs |
Platte Valley offensively are going to be very tough to stop returning do it all QB Trevon Wehrman and a very solid offensive line. Platte Valley biggest concern heading into this year will be their defense. |
| #3 | Faith Christian HS
Made the playoffs |
Faith Christian lost some depth on their offensive line but return QB Isiah Kroll and RB Jordan Abbott. Faith Christian defensively is also looking very solid. Faith Christian will need to find replacements on their offensive line and must continue to develop their QB. |
| #4 | Resurrection Christian
Made the playoffs |
Resurrection Christian could be returning the top defense in Class 2A. Resurrection Christian also returns their leaders on offense but the biggest concern for Resurrection Christian will be their offensive line. |
| #5 | Basalt HS
Made the playoffs |
Basalt will be returning a lot experience on Offense and Defense. Basalt though will need to find some replacement on their offensive line which could be losing 3 or 4 starters. Basalt though does return a top defense which will be needed to carry them early on. |
| #6 | Rifle HS
Made the playoffs in Class 3A |
Rifle went 9-3 in Class 3A last year but are losing a very good senior Class. I did make a mistake on my RB rankings leaving off Tanner Vines who ran for over 2000 yards last year. He has been added to the list and will be a huge difference make in a run heavy offense from Rifle. Rifle will need to find replacement on a depleted offensive line. Rifle does return some key players on defense and look for this team to make some noise in the Western Slope League. |
| #7 | Kent Denver HS
Made the playoffs |
Kent Denver is losing a good senior class but return some key players and experience. Kent Denver returns their QB from last year but his development is critical to help this young offensive line. Kent Denver will also need to replace some key players on defense but return their leading tackler. |
| #8 | Alamosa HS | Alamosa missed the playoffs last year but return some key pieces to make a run this year. Alamosa will need to lean on their defense early on until their offense can find their groove. Alamosa could be a team to watch for if their offense can match their defense this year. |
| #9 | Salida HS
Made the playoffs |
Salida made their first playoff appearance in some time and now look to continue that this year. Salida is losing most of their experience and starters on the skill position side on offense but return most of their offense line which will help develop their skill players. Salida will also have a Top 5 defenses coming back to help their offense as well. |
| #10 | La Junta HS
Runner-up |
La Junta once again loses some key players on both offense and defense but with a good coaching staff and a great leader returning at QB they will be a tough team to beat again. La Junta will need to find some key replacement on defense and their offensive line but look for this team to still be a Top team all year. |
| #11 | Berthoud
Made the playoffs in Class 3A |
Berthoud lost a solid senior class including their QB. Berthoud has some wholes but return about half their starters on the offense and defensive side of the ball. A few Players will have to step up for Berthoud to have a successful season in 2A. |
| #12 | Sterling HS
Made the playoffs |
Sterling is losing a key leader on offense but with the most depth returning on the offensive line and a very solid defense coming back Sterling will look to still be tough to beat. Sterling will have to quickly find skill players but with a solid defense they will be allowed to develop. |
| #13 | The Classical Academy
Made the playoffs |
Every year I always make the wrong judgement with TCA thinking they are losing to much to be competitive and they also make the playoffs. TCA is losing a ton of talent at the skill position group but with their offensive line almost all returning they will be allowed to develop the group they need. TCA will have to fill some holes on defense as well but return enough experience to be tough. |
| #14 | Elizabeth HS
Made the playoffs |
Elizabeth made a good run to the playoffs last year and are hoping to make another appearance. Elizabeth returns one of the best running back in 2A and also a stout defense to go along with it. Elizabeth would be ranked higher but with them possibly losing 3 or 4 starters on the offensive line I was a bit hesitant. Elizabeth also must get QB Nicholas Ball to develop more if they plan to make a deep run. |
| #15 | Machebeuf HS
Made the playoffs |
Machebeuf went 8-2 last year with an appearance in the Playoffs. If Machebeuf plan to make a repeat performance they will need to get their offense going in the right direction. Machebeuf is returning a solid defense but must get their offense up to speed quickly if they plan on making the playoffs. |
| #16 | Brush HS | Brush made big strides last year after struggling early on. Brush though has some holes to fill on their offensive line and must find a solid QB. Brush does return enough experience on defense and a solid RB. |
| Other Teams to Watch | ||
| Weld Central | A solid defense will have to anchor a team losing most of their skill players. Weld Central has some depth returning on their offensive line as well | |
| Englewood | Englewood returns a solid RB and enough experience on the O-Line to make their offense tough. Englewood though needs their defense to improve and have the experience to do so. | |
| Eaton
Made the Playoffs |
Eaton lost a lot of talent at most positions but have a solid JR class coming up to fill some holes. | |
| D’Evelyn | D’Evelyn lost a talented QB but return a solid RB. Their defense will have to fill some holes but could be a team to watch. | |
| Valley | Valley returns enough depth on defense to make them tough. Valley though needs to fill some holes on their offense to make a run for a playoff spot. | |
| University | University on defense will be solid but their problems last year were from their offense not producing. University will need their offense to pick up the slack if they plan to make a run for the playoffs. | |
| Montezuma-Cortez | Montezuma-Cortez could be a dark horse to make the playoffs. They return both a solid QB and RB and have minimal holes to fill on their offensive line. Montezuma-Cortez must get better play on defense, but they are returning a lot of experience on both sides of the ball. | |
| Pagosa Springs
Made the Playoffs |
Pagosa Springs lost a very talented senior class and filling the holes they left will be key to this team having a successful season. |
