MileHigh Prep Report Preseason Rankings Class 1A
Note: I am just going to quickly give the rankings and a quick breakdown of what they are returning. Later on in August full league breakdown.
Class 1A
| Rank | Team | Notes |
| #1 | Limon HS
Made the Playoffs |
I usually like to keep the defending State Champions #1 but in some cases I do not. Limon is returning a lot of experience including QB Cannan Bennett and RB Hauk Hubbard. Limon also could be sporting a Top 3 defenses. Biggest Concern for Limon could be replacing holes in their offensive line. |
| #2 | Burlington HS
Made the playoffs |
Burlington lost experience on defense and must-see improvement from that unit if they plan on making a run at Limon. Burlington though is returning their QB Braden Witzel and RB Kaden Meurisse. Burlington will need their defense to step up this year if they want the state championship. |
| #3 | Centauri HS
Runner-up |
Centauri lost a good senior class but have another ready to step up to the challenge. Centauri will need senior leader Bennie Chacon to lead their defense and offensive line. Junior Taj Cornum will have to step up huge on the offensive side of the ball but I expect Centauri to be extremely talented again this year. |
| #4 | Strasburg HS
Defending State Champions |
Strasburg is losing a good senior class and will need some underclassmen to step up this year. Michael Spence will need to take over on the offensive side of the ball, but Strasburg biggest strength will be their defense and will need it to come up huge to start the season. |
| #5 | Meeker HS
Made the playoffs |
Defense wins championship and Meeker will need their defense to be championship quality from the get go. Meeker is losing a lot of talent in their skill positions so their defense must take over. Meeker also returns a solid group of offensive linemen that will help develop their skill players. |
| #6 | Yuma HS | Yuma missed the playoffs last year, but I think will be the surprise team this year. Yuma is losing just 3 seniors and will be anchored by QB Chase McCreath. Yuma also returns all 5 starters on the offensive line but need a RB to step up to the plate and help take this offense to a new level. I think the biggest concern for Yuma is can their Defense step up to the plate. |
| #7 | Peyton HS
Made the playoffs |
Peyton was hit hard by graduation on their offensive line but have some experience coming back as well. Peyton also returns do it all QB Trevor Walker and a defensive unit that could be a top 5 unit. Peyton though will ride or die by the development of their offensive line. |
| #8 | Crowley County HS
Made the playoffs |
Crowley County loses their starting QB and some experience on their offensive line. Crowley County does return their starting RB and experience on defense. Crowley County will need their offensive line to develop. |
| #9 | Wray HS
Made the playoffs |
Wray is losing just 4 seniors and has an solid group of seniors this year. Wray loses possibly 2 seniors on the offensive line and some leadership on defense. Wray does return their RB Cade Hillman and most of their experience on both sides of the ball. Wray must improve their defense from the 16th best defense in 1A to a Top 10 defense. |
| #10 | Cornerstone Christian
Made the playoffs |
Cornerstone Christian had a solid year last year and return a group of seniors who can make a solid run. Cornerstone Christian loses their top RB from last year but return their leader on offense. Cornerstone Christian defense will have to improve this year after giving up 228 points. |
| #11 | Paonia HS
Made the playoffs |
Paonia is losing a good senior class to graduation and will need their new group of seniors to step up to the plate. Paonia does return experience on their defense but have holes at their skill positions. Paonia does have plenty of tradition and always seem to develop their younger players. |
| #12 | Highland HS
Made the playoffs |
Highland had a solid run last year making the playoffs. Highland does lose some experience on their offensive line, but Highland defense was mostly juniors and sophomores last year. Highland defense though gave up 240 points and must improve on that side of the ball. |
| #13 | Buena Vista HS | Buena Vista made strides last year to start building in the right direction. Buena Vista returns their starting QB Parker Johnson and some experience on their offensive line. Buena Vista does return some experience on defense but will need to keep improving from last year. |
| #14 | Monte Vista HS
Made the playoffs |
Monte Vista was hit hard by graduation on their offensive line and their defense. Monte Vista does return leadership at QB and RB. Monte Vista has a solid tradition of developing offensive lineman and putting the right players on defense. |
| #15 | Olathe HS | Olathe started to return to form going 4-5 last year. Olathe did stop updating their stats after game 4 but they will be returning their starting RB and nearly their entire defensive unit. Olathe will have some rebuilding on their offensive line. |
| Other Teams to Watch | ||
| Grand Valley | Grand Valley returns nearly their entire defense from last year but lose some of their key skill positions players. Grand Valley also has holes on their offensive line. | |
| Colorado Springs
Christian Made the playoffs |
Colorado Springs Christian returns some experience from their defense but will have to fill holes on their offensive line and their skill positions.
| Platte Canyon
Made the playoffs |
Platte Canyon returns their starting QB, but they lose their main RB in their run heavy offense. Platte Canyon will have some holes to fill but will still be competitive.
| Wiggins | Wiggins looks to be going in the right direction and are returning plenty of talent. Wiggins returns their starting QB plus return most of their offensive lineman. Wiggins will need to improve on the defensive side of the ball, but they will compete in their league. | |
| Florence | Florence moves from 2A down to 1A, but Florence had a down year last year. Florence will need to find replacements at their skill positions but do return some experience on their lines. | |
| Manual | Manual returns some key experience from their team last year mostly on defense. The Foothills league looks to be wide open this year and Manual could be competing for the league title. | |
| Rocky Ford | Rocky Ford had a much better year last year and really made solid leaps. Rocky Ford returns their starting QB and some experience on defense. They will look to make the playoffs this year and will need some of the underclass man to step up. |
