Football Week 10 Class 2A Playoff Projections

What I have decided to do is post my Playoff Projections using this week’s RPI posted here: http://chsaanow.com/rpi/football/ .  I will then use the seeding Criteria and seed my Class 2A playoff like I have done since the first RPI came out.  I will go into more scenarios and projections for teams on my weekly 2A breakdown posted later today.  I will do the same for Class 1A, 8-Man and 6-Man.  One last note I am using this week’s RPI and it will change after this week.

Playoffs (Straight from Chsaanow.com): The Top 16 teams in the Classification based on the final RPI rankings will be placed into the post-season bracket.  If a conference champion is not ranked in the Top 16 based on RPI rankings, they will replace the lowest ranked team that is not a conference champion in the Top 16.

Seeding Criteria (once qualifiers are determined)

• The following criteria will be taken into consideration when seeding bracket, in no particular order: geography, RPI, common opponents, strength of schedule, and head to head competition
• A conference champion in the Top-10 of the seeded playoff bracket will host a first round game, unless they are playing another league champion. Once seeded, the seeds of the team will not change regardless of who hosts the game.
• A conference champion not ranked in the top 10 of the seeded playoff bracket will be placed in the bracket but will not host a first round game.
• A conference champion not ranked in the Top 16 of the final RPI rankings will be placed in the bracket, but will not be guaranteed a top 10 seed and will not be guaranteed to host a first round game.
• Conference opponents will not be paired against one another in the first round.
• Geography will be consideration in the first round

Seeding Procedure

• Conference champions that are ranked in the top 16 of the RPI rankings are placed on the board for consideration.
• The seeding committee will determine the #1 overall seed and place that team on the bracket. The #2 team for the same conference as the #1 overall seed will then be placed on the board for consideration.  The seeding committee will then determine the #2 overall seed and place that team on the bracket.  The #2 team from the same conference s the #2 overall seed will then be placed on the board for consideration.  This process followed until all 16 teams are seeded.

Note: Even though Faith Christian is the #12 team in the RPI I am giving them a home game.  I think the winner of the Flatirons League will get the #8 seed.  I am going to say switch the winner and loser for the Flatirons League with where I seed them.

First Round Matchups (Scenario #1-Basalt over Aspen and Bayfield over Salida)

Note: A few things to note first.  I am going with Basalt over Aspen just to help clarify the Western Slope race.  I will redo the First-Round matchup below with Aspen beating Basalt just to show both scenarios.  In this scenario if Basalt beats Aspen then Rifle wins the League Championship due to their head to head win over Basalt.  With that I am putting Platte Valley as the #4 seed and Rifle as the #5 seed.  I have Salida with the #6 seed, but I will run another scenario with them beating Bayfield instead of losing.  I give the nod to Eaton at #9 due to SOS and geography.  #10 Basalt finishes second in the Western Slope and gets the #10 seed and Aspen get the #11 seed because of geography to Salida.  Pagosa Springs get the #12 seed due to SOS and geography and D’Evelyn get the #13 for geography purposes.  Delta with the #9 RPI gets the #14 seed due to finishing 4^th in the Western Slope and must be placed after Aspen.  Also D’Evelyn is closer to Platte Valley then having two teams travel multiple hours.  Elizabeth must be placed at #15 due to Montezuma-Cortez finishing at #16 and can’t have Bayfield and Cortez play.

First Round Matchups (Scenario #2-Aspen over Basalt and Bayfield over Salida)

Note: If Aspen beats Basalt they win the League title due to having the head to head over Rifle.  1 thru 4 will remain the same but I have Salida at #5 and Kent Denver at #6.  I moved Aspen into the #7 spot because their RPI will be better than Faith Christian if they both win.  Rifle then becomes the #9 seed and Eaton the #10 seed.  11 thru 13 are rearranged to avoid league matchups.  I did move Pagosa to #14 because their RPI is lower than Delta and they have a relative SOS.
