Class 3A Volleyball Regional Predictions

With Regional Volleyball across all three classes we have decided to release are Regional Predictions.  For the State Tournament we will do a full breakdown!  I will give my prediction for each Region and then a quick thought about each Region

Region 1

Regional Winner: Lutheran

Lutheran had a great regular season losing just 1 game to Faith Christian.  Lutheran will get challenged by an improved Montezuma-Cortez team but Lutheran should advance to state.

Region 2

Regional Winner: Alamosa

Alamosa is the only undefeated team in Class 3A and they were very impressive losing only 6 sets the entire year.  Alamosa did not play the toughest schedule but have some very impressive wins this season.  Alamosa must play another league champion in DSST-Green Valley Ranch and will be the main hurdle to qualify for the state tournament.

Region 3

Regional Winner: University

University finished third in the extremely competitive Patriot League.  University still finished 20-3 on the year with the three losses to Lutheran, Eaton, and Platte Valley.  University will be challenged by a tough La Junta team, but they should cruise into the State Tournament.

Region 4

Regional Winner: Platte Valley

Platte Valley is the first 3A team to beat Eaton in a long time.  They beat Eaton 3-1 but only a few nights later dropped a game to Sterling.  Platte Valley though should have plenty of confidence with wins over University and a revenge win over Sterling to end the year.  Platte Valley has a tough region with Western Slope winner Coal Ridge standing in their way.  Coal Ridge is a much better team than a #21 seed and the final match between Platte Valley and Coal Ridge will be a great match.  I still think Platte Valley will move onto state and will be a real threat if they get into the state tournament.

Region 5

Regional Winner: Manitou Springs

Region 5 is one of the more intriguing Regions with 2nd place Manitou Springs (Tri-Peaks) and Sterling in the same region.  Sterling is a tough team to judge with their upset on Platte Valley and taking a set against Eaton. Sterling could be a team to knock off the higher seed team.  Manitou Springs finished second in the Tri-Peaks behind CSCS.  Manitou Springs ended the year going 2-2 losing to University and Woodland Park.  My biggest knock on Manitou Springs is their lack of a big win and what I see their biggest win being a 2-0 win over Colorado Academy, a 2-0 win over Fleming, and a 3-1 win over St. Mary’s.  Manitou Springs has a lot of question marks and Region 5 could be up for grabs between Manito Springs and Sterling.

Region 6

Regional Winner: Valley

Region 6 could be another tough region with Valley and Aspen as the two favorites.  Valley at one point this season was 8-7.  Valley played one of the tougher 3A schedules and showed with the early results.  Valley once into league play started playing better and have won 8 straight games with key wins over Cedaredge, Palisade, and Battle Mountain.  Valley has a lot of momentum, but Aspen will be a tough challenge.

Region 7

Regional Winner: Colorado Springs Christian

Colorado Springs Christian won the Tri-Peaks league when they beat Manitou Springs back in September.  CSCS lost 1 of their final 2 matches to end the season but was to Erie. CSCS also played a tough enough schedule to realize that they have some improvement if they plan on making a deep run.  CSCS main challenger will be Centauri.  Early on I put Centauri as an after though but then Centauri wins 6 of their final 7 games including a key win over Middle Park.  Centauri also played Alamosa extremely tough and Centauri hopes to pull an upset and win Region 7.

Region 8

Regional Winner: Faith Christian

Faith Christian had a weird couple weeks when they lost to Prospect Ridge and then handed Lutheran their only defeat of the season.  Faith Christian didn’t get any favors when regional pairings were announced drawing a very tough Lamar team.  Faith Christian will have to contend with the #2 Hitter in the state if they plan to advance to state.  Lamar will be looking to pull a huge upset and will need to be on top of their game.

Region 9

Regional Winner: Resurrection Christian

Region 9 looks like it could be one of the weaker regions.  Cedaredge finished second in the Western Slope league but did not really play much competition.  Cedaredge 4 losses are to Meeker, Coal Ridge, Palisade, and Valley.  There are still a lot of questions about Cedaredge and that is why I am going with Resurrection Christian to win Region 9.  Resurrection Christian looked to be in some trouble heading into the final week of the season.  Resurrection Christian then pulled off 3 solid wins over Vista Peak, Salida, and an upset of Englewood.  Resurrection Christian seems to be coming together at the right time and is my pick to get to State.

Region 10

Regional Winner: Eaton

Eaton picked up their first 3A loss in over 3 years and Eaton record also indicates the tough schedule that they played.  Eaton played a ton of 4A and 5A opponents but should have them battle tested for the Regional and State Tournament.  Eaton main challenger will be Colorado Academy, but Eaton drew a great Region to advance to the state tournament.

Region 11

Regional Winner: Englewood

My pick for the toughest region in Class 3A goes to Region 11.  All 3 teams have proven they can hang with anyone.  Prospect Ridge ended the year losing 2 games but have a huge key win over Faith Christian.  Englewood won the Colorado 7 league but picked up an interesting loss to Resurrection Christian.  Middle Park won the Frontier League but like Englewood have an interesting loss to Centauri.  I really think Region 11 is up for grabs and I am going with Englewood to win region 11.

Region 12

Regional Winner: Bennett

If you want to talk about wide open regions let’s talk about Region 12.  All 3 teams can win this region and advance to the state tournament.  For my regional prediction i was not very sure but I leaned with Bennett due to them winning their final 3 games.
