8-Man Football Week 4 Top 10 Breakdown

8-Man had no new teams added to the rankings this week.  Hoehne lost their second straight game losing to Dayspring Christian and hold onto the #10 spot just ahead of West Grand, Vail Christian, and Rangely.  A few key games inside the Top 10 this week and most teams open league play this week.  Next week we will start looking at League Breakdowns instead of Top 10 breakdowns!!

#1 Sedgwick County (3-0)

Sedgwick County is off to a very hot start at 3-0 and a top 10 victory in their first 3 games.  Sedgwick County moved to 3-0 after blasting Gilpin County 70-14.  Sedgwick County moves into league play this week.  Sedgwick County will hit the road to play Akron.  Akron is 1-2 on the season and suffered back to back losses to Holly and Fowler.  Akron will be hoping their defense can come together this week.  Sedgwick County defensively will be looking to stop the run and force Akron to throw.  Offensively Sedgwick County has been tough to stop.  QB Jared Ehmke and RB Beau Parker are both off to great starts and I am interested to see how they start league play.

#2 Mancos (2-0)

Mancos played their first top 10 opponent of the season and came out firing scoring 48 points.  Mancos was able to beat #4 Merino 48-34 and move to 2-0 on the season.  Mancos had their rushing attack going at full throttle rushing for 378 yards and 6 TDs.  Mancos used their passing attack a bit but really used the rushing attack to win the game.  Chase Moore (139 rushing yards) and Anthony Medina (140 rushing yards) led the rushing attack.  Defensively Mancos did struggle a bit giving up 34 points, but some key players stepped up.  Colt Furry had a great defensive game racking up 25 tackles and 1 INT.  Up next for Mancos is a road trip to #9 Sargent.  Mancos and Sargent have turned into quite a rivalry and this should be a interesting game.  Sargent is 1-1 on the season and picked up their first win beating Springfield 48-7.  Mancos offensively will look to continue to dominate on the ground.  Defensively look for Mancos to stop the run and force Sargent into more throwing downs.

#3 Fowler (3-0)

Fowler is off to a 3-0 start and have a bye this week.  Fowler last week blasted Akron 52-6.  Offensively Fowler was unstoppable on the ground rushing for 438 yards.  The rushing attack was led by Joshua Daniels (159 yards) and Jackson Bates (138 yards).  Fowler offensively has been nearly unstoppable thru three games and the bye week should help them continue to improve.  Defensively Fowler was able to hold Akron to just 100 yards rushing and were able to win the battle at the line of scrimmage.  Fowler will face rival Holly next week.

#4 Merino (2-1)

Merino picked up their first loss of the season falling to Mancos 48-34.  Merino has a bye this week and will look fix the defensive mistakes during the bye week.  Merino will hit the road after the bye week and will face Haxtun after the bye week.  I have no stats for Merino.

#5 Caliche (2-0)

Caliche is off to a quite 2-0 start and had a bye last week.  Two weeks ago, Caliche was able to beat West Grand 60-36 in their first true test.   This week Caliche will face Byers to open their league schedule.  Caliche will look to dominate the line of scrimmage and hope to improve to 3-0 on the season and grab their first league win.

#6 Sanford (2-0)

Sanford is off to a solid 2-0 start with back to back wins over McClave and Swink.  Sanford quickly put up 40 points on Swink and cruised to the win.  Sanford has not really been tested in their first two games.  This week Sanford will travel to face Sangre De Cristo.  Sangre De Cristo is 1-1 on year and picked up their first victory over Las Animas.  Sanford will look to dominate on the ground and have a big game from their offense.  Sangre De Cristo will be tested again by a top team and we will see how Sangre De Cristo plays.

#7 Dayspring Christian (2-0)

Dayspring Christian moved up the rankings quite a bit after upsetting #6 Hoehne 36-6.  Dayspring Christian offensively had a solid day offensively racking up 347 yards of total offense.  QB Garrett Krehbiel had another good outing passing for 97 yards and rushing for another 49 yards and 3 TDs.  RB Wyatt Eichman led all rushers with 166 yards and 1 TD.  Defensively Dayspring Christian was able to limit the Hoehne offense and hold them to just 6 points.  Dayspring Christian will host Haxtun this week to open their league schedule.  Haxtun moved to 1-1 on the season picked up their first win over Wiley.  Dayspring Christian will look to limit the rushing attack of Haxtun and fore them to throw the ball.  Offensively look for Dayspring Christian to continue to develop their offense.  Who knows what this offense will look like when Christian Still returns?  This will be a good test for Dayspring Christian against a young Haxtun team.

#8 Pikes Peak Christian (1-1)

Pikes Peak Christian opened the season with a loss to #3 Merino but bounced back nicely two weeks blasting McClave 52-0.  Pikes Peak Christian has a lot of players that have been playing together for a while and we will see if they can make another deep run this season.  Pikes Peak Christian will open league play against Calhan.  Calhan is 2-1 on the season picking up back to back wins.  Last week Calhan beat Dolores Huerta 52-20.  This should be a good matchup to find out more about both teams.

#9 Sargent (1-1)

Sargent moved to 1-1 on the season after blasting Springfield 48-8.  This was a good bounce back win for a inexperience Sargent team.  Sargent offensively was able to run wild rushing for 390 yards and 5 TDs.  QB Kage Pepper had a solid day throwing for 46 yards and rushing for 123 yards.  Leading all rushers was Blake Behil who had 133 yards and 3 TDs.  Offensively expect for Sargent to continue to improve as the year goes.  Defensively Sargent was able to limit Springfield to just 77 yards rushing and 9 yards passing.  Sargent will need their defense to be top notch this week when #2 Mancos comes to town.  Sargent defensively will need to dominate the line of scrimmage to have success.  Offensively Sargent must keep the ground game going.  Sargent vs Mancos is one of the best games in the state on Friday night.

#10 Hoehne (0-2)

Hoehne is off to a tough start at 0-2 and are barely holding onto the #10 spot in the rankings.  Hoehne opened with back to back losses to #1 Sedgwick County and #7 Dayspring Christian a very tough schedule for a team replacing a few holes.  Hoehne should be able to bounce back in their next two games against Springfield (0-2) and Las Animas (0-2).  This game against Springfield will tell us a ton if Hoehne can bounce back.
