MileHigh Prep Report Class 1A Girls Basketball Preseason Rankings

My top 14 rankings for Class 1A Girls.  Last year was a shortened year and with a full season schedule this year it will make things much more interesting.  Plenty of very talented teams this year and will make for a great season.

Class 1A

RankTeamNotes
#1Flatirons Academy

Defending State Champions
Flatirons Academy is your defending State Champions.  They went on a great run to end the season and closed it out with a state title.  Flatirons Academy returns the core of their roster including their top 3 scorers.  Kenlee Durrill will be a POY candidate and #2 scorer Emma Cox provides a solid #2 option.  Flatirons Academy does lose some of their depth scoring with two important seniors graduating.
#2Briggsdale

Made State Tournament (Went 2-1, lost in Final 4)
Briggsdale reached the Final 4 last season before falling to eventual State Champions Flatirons Academy.  Briggsdale does lose a key piece at PG but return the rest of the roster.  Kylie Krise will be a POY candidate and depth scoring provided by Jenna Krise and Peyton Nicklas.  Briggsdale will look to finally get over the hump and get that state title that has evaded them for the past few years.
#3Fleming

Runner Up
Fleming was your runner up from a season ago.  Fleming will lose their #1 scorer and rebounder from a season ago and someone who has been a leader since their freshman year.  Fleming will look to Whitney Chintala and Kally Kirkwood to be leaders this season and push for a deep Tournament run.
#4McClave

Made State Tournament (Went 1-1 lost in Sweet 16)
McClave reached the Sweet 16 a year ago before falling to Dove Creek.  McClave this season will return their top 5 scorers including POY candidate Anna Becket and #2 scorer Maggie Chase.  McClave will be poised for a deep run this season and gained valuable state tournament experience last season.
#5Haxtun

Made State Tournament (Went 1-1, lost in Sweet 16)
Haxtun made the State Tournament last season before falling in the Sweet 16 to Briggsdale.  Haxtun will lose their #1 scorer from a season ago but return the next 5 scorers and top rebounder.  Taylor Schram and Allie Thompson look to be the leaders this season for a deep Haxtun team.
#6Lone Star

Made State Tournament (Went 1-1, lost in Sweet 16)
Lone Star made the State Tournament last year and lost by 2 to Kit Carson in the Sweet 16.  Lone Star is reloading for another deep run and return 3 of their top 5 scorers including top 2 scorers Alivia Weathers and Alison Davis.  Lone Star will look for one last shot at the Elite 8 this season.
#7Sangre De Cristo

Made State Tournament (Went 1-1, lost in Elite 8)
Sangre De Cristo made the State Tournament last season and reached the Elite 8 before falling to Fleming.  Sangre De Cristo will have a few holes to fill losing 3 of their top 5 scorers.  Sangre De Cristo will return their #1 scorer in Ashley Mortensen POY Candidate and depth scoring should be provided by Tymberlynn Rogers and Peyton Metz.
#8Kit Carson

Made State Tournament (Went 2-1, lost in Final 4)
Kit Carson made the State tournament a year ago and reached the Final 4 before falling to Fleming.  Kit Carson will have some holes to fill with 2 of their top 5 scorers graduating/transferring.  Tess Johnson and Stepanie Framel will need to become leaders this season for Kit Caron to make a big run.
#9Merino

Made State Tournament (Went 1-1, lost in Sweet 16)
Merino reached the state tournament last year before falling to Flatirons Academy in the Sweet 16.  Merino will have a few holes to fill losing 2 of their top 5 scorers including their top scorer from a season ago.  Taysa Conger and Makenzie Sutter will be the top returns from last season and must step up and be leaders this season.
#10Kiowa

Made State Tournament (Lost in First Round)
Kiowa made the State tournament last year losing in the first round.  Kiowa will no look for a deeper run and return the talent to do so.  Kiowa returns nearly their entire roster including their top 4 scorers.  Kendra Byrd and Hanna Brogger both return to lead a tough Kiowa team.
#11North Park

Did not qualify for State Tournament
North Park did not qualify for the State Tournament last year but went 8-5 playing a 2A Schedule.  North Park I think is a dangerous team this season and has potential to reach the Elite 8.  Paige Sanchez is a POY candidate and plenty of depth scoring comes back from Kaylee Carlstorm and Dezirae Gonzales.  If there is a team I think is underrated this is the team.
#12Idalia

Made State Tournament (Lost in First Round)
Idalia made the State Tournament last year losing in the first round.  Idalia is another team I believe could be underrated.  Idalia returns their entire roster from last season.  Camren Morris returns to lead the offense.  The biggest concern for Idalia is who else steps up and scores if Morris gets shut down.
#13Belleview Christian

Made State Tournament (Lost in First Round)
Belleview Christian made the State Tournament last year losing in the first round.  Belleview Christian will look for a much deeper run this season and return nearly their entire roster to do so.  Belleview Christian returns #1 scorer Elaizha Nelson and #2 scorer Bethany Long.
#14Stratton

Did not qualify for State Tournament
Stratton did not qualify for the State Tournament last season and went 6-8 overall.  Stratton will return some key pieces from last season team including leading scorer Kennedy Frank.  The biggest addition for Stratton is Sedonia Isenbart who will make this team a threat for a deep playoff push.
Teams to Watch for:South Baca, Dove Creek, Kim/Branson, Cotopaxi, Simla, Elbert, Denver Waldorf, Shining Mountain
