8-Man Football League Predictions and Playoff Predictions Week 5

8-Man Football League Predictions and Playoff Predictions Week 5

We have completed the first four weeks of the season.  A few surprises so far early on.  A few surprises teams so far.  League will always separate the true playoff contenders.  I will continue updating my Predictions weekly.  Of course, this is early in the season but with only 1 week left of league play some things are starting to shake out.  I will be limiting my article length due to the longer breakdowns done by Kerry Sherman tomorrow.  Again, I am not cheering against any team just giving my predictions.

League One

1. Mancos

2. Dove Creek

3. Sanford

4. Sargent

5. Dolores

So far thru 4 weeks of the non-league schedule league one has gone as expected.  Mancos, Dove Creek, and Sanford have all risen to the top with Sargent sitting at 2-2 and Dolores in the process of rebuilding.  I don’t have many changes this week.  I still have Mancos as my league champion, but I do expect them to be challenged by Dove Creek and Sanford.  Sargent losses to Springfield and Hoehne in the non-league will probably keep them out of playoff contention this season.

Playoff Contenders: Dove Creek, Mancos, Sanford

League Two

1. Hayden

2. West Grand

3. Vail Christian

4. Rangely

5. Plateau Valley

6. Soroco

League Two has take a slight turn since my preseason predictions but my top 3 remain but in a different order.  Hayden, West Grand, and Vail Christian seem to be the only playoff contenders from this league.  Hayden remains my pick to win the league followed very closely by an undefeated West Grand team.  Hayden, I feel has played the more difficult non-league schedule compared to West Grand.  Vail Christian sits in the #3 spot at 1-1 we will learn where they stand when they face Front Range Christian this Saturday.  Rangely is my pick for 4th place but I think outside playoff contention currently.

Playoff Contenders: Hayden, West Grand, Vail Christian

League Three

1. Simla

2. Calhan

3. Elbert

4. Pikes Peak Christian

5. St. Mary’s

6. South Park

League Three has no changes from last weeks Predictions.  Simla looks to be the heavy favorite to win the league but the rivalry games with Calhan and PPC are always difficult contests.  Calhan and Elbert remain in playoff contention, but I have a feeling only 1 of the two get into the playoffs.  Calhan and Elbert face each other this week.  PPC and St. Mary’s sit in 4th and 5th and both are in danger of falling completely from playoff contention this season.

Playoff Contenders: Simla, Calhan, Elbert

League Four

1. Haxtun

2. Akron

3. Merino

4. Dayspring Christian

5. Caliche

6. Sedgwick County

The toughest League in 8-Man has mostly lived up to the name.  I still feel all 6 teams are in playoff contention but some tough loses in non-league could hurt a few teams hopes at the playoffs.  I think League Four probably only gets 4 maybe 5 teams into the playoffs.  Haxtun remains my favorite to win the league and Akron stays in the #2 spot despite the upset loss.  After the top 2 I really think it is up for grabs.  Merino has a pair of tough losses to Mancos and Lyons but still have played a more difficult schedule that Caliche.  Caliche is undefeated but their toughest game so far has been against Byers.  Dayspring Christian is 2-1 and their 56-14 win over Front Range Christian really took me by surprise.  Sedgwick County is 1-3 but are improving every week.  One final week of non-league games will probably shake up the order again in League Four.

Playoff Contenders: Haxtun, Akron, Merino, Caliche, Sedgwick County, Dayspring Christian

League Five

1. Lyons

2. Front Range Christian

3. Byers

4. Belleview Christian

5. Gilpin County

6. Justice

League Five is in danger of becoming a 1 Bid League.  Some key non-league games this week will really determine the fate of this league.  Lyons has proven the most so far.  Their upset win over Merino has turned some heads and I have them as the heavy favorite to win this league. Front Range Christian picked up a tough loss to Dayspring Christian this past week and that loss could keep them out of the playoffs.  Byers is probably the best 0-4 team in 8-Man.  They open league against Lyons on 9/29 then could possibly run the table.  Belleview Christian is 2-1 and a game against Caliche this Friday could determine whether they are a true contender for a playoff berth.

Playoff Contenders: Lyons, Front Range Christian, Byers, Belleview Christian

League Six

1. Crowley County

2. Fowler

3. Hoehne

4. John Mall

5. Dolores Huerta

6. Custer County

League Six could be one of the weaker leagues in 8-Man this year.  5 of the 6 teams in this league have 1 loss or less.  Only Crowley County sits above .500 so far.  Crowley County stays as my pick to win league 6.  The main question is will any challenge Crowley County.  Fowler, Hoehne, and John Mall look to be those teams.  Hoehne is 1-3 and against top teams have really struggled offensively.  Fowler is 0-4 and offensively must get things sorted out.  Defensively they have really struggled as well so their offense could be their best hopes of running the table after facing Crowley County.  John Mall is 0-3 and have a must win game this week against Las Animas.  A win for John Mall could get them in the talks for finishing in the top 3 of league.

Playoff Contenders: Crowley County, Fowler, Hoehne

League Seven

1. Holly

2. Swink

3. Wiley

4. McClave

5. Springfield

6. Las Animas

League 7 looks to be a wild ride to winning the league title.  4 teams currently will be in the battle for that league title and those same four teams will also be in the hunt for a playoff berth.  Holly remains my pick to win league 7.  They picked up a very important win over Akron last week.  Swink, Wiley, and McClave all look to challenge for the league title and all 3 are starting to play better Football.  I think League 7 will see at least 1 upset during league play and could make for a fun league title race to watch.

Playoff Contenders: Holly, McClave, Wiley, Swink

Playoff Predictions

We are early in the season, so I am just going to pick the 16 teams I think make the playoffs.  They are not in any order, and I am just picking the 16 teams I think have a shot at the playoffs.  Remember still very early and plenty can still change if you are left of the list.  I think next week with the conclusion of league play I may try and seed a field but we will see.
