6-Man Football League Predictions and Playoff Projections Week 8

We are 8 weeks into the regular season, and we are getting into crunch time territory.  If you are outside the top 20 of the Seeding Index more than likely your playoff hopes are gone.  Remember you must be inside the top 16 of the Seeding Index or win your league title.  Also, at the end of the article I will be looking at Playoff Predictions and Projections.

League One

1. Fleming

2. North Park

3. Prairie

4. Briggsdale

5. Peetz

6. Weldon Valley

The league title race really heats up this week.  Fleming remains atop the standings, but 3 teams are tied with 1 loss behind them.  Fleming can take a big step towards that league title when they travel to face Prairie this week.  Fleming sits at #2 in the seeding index.  Prairie improved their playoff hopes picking up a key win over Branson/Kim last week.  This week Prairie looks to improve their league title hopes if they can upset Fleming.  Prairie sits at #14 in the Seeding Index and are on the bubble so any wins will help their cause.  North Park remains my pick to finish in second place.  North Park hits the road to face Cotopaxi, and this is a non-league matchup.  North Park sits at #8 in the seeding index and a win over Cotopaxi could nearly lock up a playoff spot.  North Park still must face Prairie inside league play.  Briggsdale is the final team to mention.  Briggsdale sits at #15 in the seeding index.  Briggsdale faces Weldon Valley this week and this is a must win game.  Briggsdale has a huge game remaining against Fleming on 10/21 and this could be for a league title if everything falls out correctly.  Still a lot to figure out in League One in terms of league title and who finishes were.

CHSAA Seeding Index: #2 Fleming, #8 North Park, #14 Prairie, #15 Briggsdale, #22 Peetz, #26 Weldon Valley

Playoff Contenders: Fleming, Prairie, North Park, Briggsdale

Eliminated from Playoff Contention: Peetz, Weldon Valley

League Two

1. Stratton

2. Otis

3. Genoa-Hugo

4. Arickaree

5. Idalia

6. Hi-Plains

7. Flagler

League Two has been an amazing race to watch and look for the final 3 weeks to have some fireworks.  Stratton remains atop the league standings and my pick to win League Two.  Stratton nearly wrapped up the league title with a big win over Otis last week.  If Arickaree falls this week the Stratton wins the league title this week.  Stratton will get a forfeit win over Flagler this week.  Otis remains my pick to finish in second place.  Otis sits at #4 in the seeding index, and they face Arickaree this week.  Otis can basically lock up a playoff spot with a win this week.  Arickaree sits at #6 in the seeding index and a win for themselves keep their league title hopes alive and probably lock up a playoff spot.  Genoa-Hugo sits at #5 in the seeding index, and they face Idalia this Thursday.  Genoa-Hugo can also nearly lock up a playoff spot with a win this week.  Genoa-Hugo will be facing a very desperate Idalia team so they must stay on top of their game.  Idalia remains in the playoff hunt at #18 but need wins in two of their final three games.  Idalia will need to upset Genoa-Hugo or Eads.

CHSAA Seeding Index: #1 Stratton, #4 Otis, #5 Genoa-Hugo, #6 Arickaree, #18 Idalia, #25 Hi-Plains, #28 Flagler

Playoff Contenders: Stratton, Arickaree, Genoa-Hugo, Otis, Idalia

Eliminated from Playoff Contention: Hi-Plains, Flagler

League Three

1. Deer Trail

2. Hanover

3. Miami-Yoder

4. Kiowa

5. Bethune

6. Manzanola

League three may be just the league champion getting into the playoffs.  Deer Trail has the highest Seeding Index ranking at #17 and the next highest is Hanover at #20.  With that information the league title race is the most important thing in this league.  Deer Trail remains as my pick to win league three.  Deer Trail still must face Hanover and Miami-Yoder.  The Hanover game is the one I think decides the league title.  Hanover remains as my pick to finish in second place.  Hanover continue to roll thru league play and have a big matchup with Kiowa this Saturday.  I think only Kiowa has a shot at pushing for a playoff with the league title.

CHSAA Seeding Index: #17 Deer Trail, #20 Hanover, #24 Kiowa, #29 Miami-Yoder, #30 Bethune, #31 Manzanola

Playoff Contenders: Deer Trail, Hanover

Eliminated from Playoff Contention: Kiowa, Miami-Yoder, Bethune, Manzanola

League Four

1. Granada

2. Cheyenne Wells

3. Cheraw

4. Eads

5. Walsh

6. Kit Carson

League Four will be the most exciting league race to watch.  Last week created a mess atop the league standings.  Eads upset Granada on a last second TD and now Eads, Granada, and Cheyenne Wells sit atop the standings at 3-1.  I am sticking with Granada as my league champion pick.  Granada will face Kit Carson this week and will be heavily favored in this game.  Granada to win the league title must have Cheyenne Wells beat Eads this week.  If Eads wins then Granada will finish in second place, but Granada must take care of business this week against Kit Carson.  Granada sits at #3 in the seeding index.  Cheyenne Wells remains my pick to finish in second.  Cheyenne Wells cannot win the league title unless Granada gets upset by Kit Carson and they beat Eads. Cheyenne Wells can basically lock up a playoff spot with a win over Eads.  Cheyenne Wells sits at #9 in the seeding index.  Eads gave themselves a shot at the league title with the upset of Granada.  Eads must beat Cheyenne Wells and they will be league champions.  Eads sits at #7 in the seeding index and are in good shape for a playoff spot.  Cheraw and Walsh are two other playoff hopefuls.  Cheraw and Walsh face each other as well this week. Cheraw sits at #11 in the seeding index and a win over Walsh greatly improves their playoff hopes.  Cheraw with a loss to Walsh will need wins over Kiowa and primero in their final two games.  Walsh sits at #19 in the Seeding Index and they are in trouble of missing the playoffs.  Walsh needs a desperately and a win over Cheraw would probably give them a huge boost.  Walsh finishes the year against Manzanola and I am not sure a win against them would boost them enough to jump back into the top 16.

CHSAA Seeding Index: #3 Granada, #7 Eads, #9 Cheyenne Wells, #11 Cheraw, #19 Walsh, #21 Kit Carson

Playoff Contenders: Granada, Eads, Cheraw, Cheyenne Wells, Walsh

Eliminated from Playoff Contention: Kit Carson

League Five

1. Branson/Kim

2. Cotopaxi

3. Sierra Grande

4. La Veta

5. Mountain Valley

6. Primero

7. Sangre De Cristo

Inside league 5 has been a roller coaster so far with some amazing games.  Branson/Kim can win the league title with a win over Mountain Valley this week.  Branson/Kim will then look to improve their seed with games against La Veta and Cheyenne Wells to close the year.  Branson/Kim sits at #10 in the Seeding Index.  Cotopaxi cannot win the league title without some help but looking at their seeding index they sit at #13.  Cotopaxi has 3 games remaining against North Park, Sierra Grande, and Deer Trail and must win at least 1 of those games to keep their playoff hopes alive.  If Cotopaxi wins two of their final three games, I believe they get into the playoffs.  Sierra Grande picked up a monster win last week against La Veta and jumped up to #12 in the seeding index.  Sierra Grande will face Primero this week before closing the year against Cotopaxi and Granada.  Sierra Grande must beat Primero and then look for one more win.  Sierra Grande could be sweating things out if they go 1 for 3 in their final 3 games.  La Veta currently sits at #16 in the seeding index.  La Veta would miss the playoff right now because the league champion from league 3 would get in ahead of them.  La Veta has must win games against Sangre De Cristo this week and Kiowa on 10/28.  Those are must win games and could be enough to jump to #15.  The game that would push them into the playoffs will be against Branson/Kim on 10/22.  La Veta will be number watching to close the year and will make all three of their final games very important.

CHSAA Seeding Index: #10 Branson/Kim, #12 Sierra Grande, #13 Cotopaxi, #16 La Veta, #23 Mountain Valley, #27 Primero, #32 Sangre De Cristo

Playoff Contenders: Branson/Kim, La Veta, Sierra Grande, Cotopaxi

Eliminated from Playoff Contention: Primero, Mountain Valley, Sangre De Cristo

Playoff Projections & Predictions

What I have decided to do with 6-Man and 8-Man is combine my predictions and projections article since Kerry Sherman will be covering in more depth the league races.  Remember to qualify for the playoffs you MUST Finish in the Top 16 of the CHSAA Seeding Index or WIN your league title.

6-Man Playoff Predictions (Who I think make the playoffs)

This is who I think make the playoffs and who win the leagues.  In the 6-Man ranks all league champions are guaranteed a berth.  The rest will be selected by CHSAA Seeding Index.  Seeding is determined by CHSAA Seeding Index.  I am picking my 11 At-Large teams via non-league schedules, remaining schedules, and how I think teams will do.  League Champions are posted first then the At-Large Teams.
