Class 3A Volleyball Weekend Schedule

Class 3A Volleyball Weekend Schedule

We look at the top games from Thursday thru Saturday for Class 3A.  Class 2A and Class 1A will have their weekly previews posted tomorrow of Friday.  We are using my rankings for Class 3A top 10.  We are still early in the season but Class 3A appears to be wide open this year.

Thursday

#2 University (3-2) at Valley (0-4)

University opened their season playing in a 4A Tournament with mixed results.  University went 2-2 during the tournament collecting wins over 4A Roosevelt and 4A Longmont.  Tuesday University snagged another 4A win defeating Greeley West.  University will face their first 3A opponent before a pair of 4A games next week.  Valley has opened the season with a rough start at 0-4 but they have played a difficult schedule.  Including losses to top 10 Sterling and Resurrection Christian.  Valley is looking to bounce back in this matchup.  Valley next game is on 9/5 against C.S Christian.

#4 Eaton (2-2) at Berthoud (2-2)

Eaton kicked off play last weekend with a tournament where they went 2-2 collecting wins over 4A Mead and 4A Palmer Ridge.  Eaton did face a 3A team in Alamosa falling in 5 sets.  Eaton will look to get back on schedule against 4A Berthoud.

#8 Delta (4-0) vs #6 Meeker (4-0)

Delta is off to a great start at 4-0 with wins over 4A Grand Junction, 4A Montrose, 3A Bayfield, and 3A Montezuma-Cortez.  Delta will look for their first top 10 win of the season when they face 2A #6 Meeker at home.  Meeker is off to a great start at 4-0 as well and have only dropped on set so far to 1A De Beque.  Meeker cruised to wins over 2A Plateau Valley, 1A De Beque, 2A North Fork, and 2A Hayden.  This will be the first big test for Meeker this season.

#9 Sterling (3-0) vs Brush (4-0)

Sterling comes into the contest undefeated and looking to move to 4-0 but will be tested be rival Brush.  Sterling collected wins over Valley, 4A Fort Morgan, and Sidney NE.  Sterling moves into the top 10 for the first time.  This is Sterling lone game of the weekend their next matchup is against 4A Longmont on 9/5.  Brush is off to a great start at 4-0.  Brush collected wins over 4A Silver Creek, Highland, SkyView Academy, and 4A Fort Morgan.  Brush will look for another key win if they can upset #9 Sterling.  Brush won’t play again till next week when they face Frontier Academy on 9/7.

Non-Top 10 Games

2A Lake County (6-0) at Englewood (0-0)

C.S Christian (2-1) at Forge Christian (1-1)

4A Lutheran (7-0) at Manitou Springs (1-2)

Montezuma-Cortez (1-2) at 4A Durango (3-0)

Prospect Ridge (2-1) at Bennett (3-1)

Friday

#1 Platte Valley (1-3) vs #10 Liberty Common (4-3)

Platte Valley like many other top 3A teams opened the season playing in a 4A mixed tournament.  Platte Valley struggled in that tournament going 1-3.  Platte Valley did collect the 3-1 win over Roosevelt but fell to Windsor, Palmer Ridge, and Lutheran.  This is a very tough schedule for Platte Valley.  Things don’t get much easier as Platte Valley continues play against top teams with a matchup with 4A Erie on 9/5.  Liberty Common opened 2023 with a 4-3 record.  They kicked 2023 with a solid win over Forge Christian on 8/22 also they competed in the mixed 4A tournament going 1-3.  Liberty Common did pick up a big win Tuesday over Peak to Peak 3-0.  This is a big matchup for Liberty Common and Platte Valley.

Saturday

#3 Alamosa (1-3) vs Dove Creek (5-1) (Tournament)

#3 Alamosa (1-3) vs 4A Pueblo Central (1-2) (Tournament)

Alamosa opened 2023 with a 1-3 record but also took part in the mixed 4A Tournament going 1-3 but collecting a huge win over Eaton.  Alamosa will now compete in another tournament this weekend and will face 1A #7 Dove Creek and 4A Pueblo Central.  Alamosa should be tested in both games.  Alamosa next match is 9/5 vs Pueblo County.

#5 Centauri (5-0) vs #8 Delta (4-0)

I think the game most people on Saturday will be looking for in Class 3A is Centauri vs Delta.  Both teams are undefeated and should be a great game.  Centauri is off to a great start at 5-0.  They have not played the most difficult schedule, but they did pick up a win over former #2 team Lamar 3-2.  Centauri other wins are over 2A Sargent, La Junta, 1A Centennial, and 1A Sangre De Cristo.  Delta we mentioned above will have a huge matchup Thursday against Meeker and will follow that up with another top 10 matchup with Centauri.  We will know more about Delta after this weeks games.

Non-Top 10 Games

Buena Vista (2-2) vs Gunnison (2-0) (Tournament)

Salida (0-0) vs Del Norte (0-4) (Tournament)
