Class 3A Volleyball Weekend Schedule
We look at the top games from Thursday thru Saturday for Class 3A. Class 2A and Class 1A will have their weekly previews posted tomorrow of Friday. We are using my rankings for Class 3A top 10. We are still early in the season but Class 3A appears to be wide open this year.
Thursday
#1 Platte Valley (3-3) at #4 Eaton (3-3)
Platte Valley vs Eaton is the match to watch on Thursday. Platte Valley has won 3 straight games since opening the season 0-3. Platte Valley kicked off league play on 9/1 with a win over Liberty Common. Platte Valley looks to make it 4 straight on Thursday. Platte Valley vs Eaton is a league game. Eaton enters with a 3-3 record and coming off a 5-set loss to Holy Family on Tuesday. Eaton will be looking to improve to 2-0 in league play. They defeated Berthoud for their first league win on 8/31.
#2 University (4-2) vs 4A Mead (3-4)
University is on a two game winning streak but have a pair of tough games coming up. University plays 4A undefeated Lutheran tonight Wednesday. Then will face Mead on Thursday. University will be tested by both 4A schools. University did pick up their first league win of the year against Valley on 8/31. Their next 3A opponent will be on 9/12 against Sterling, which is a league game. Mead is a 4A team they sit at 3-4 on the season. They have wins over 3A opponents Alamosa and Liberty Common. I believe they have one more 3A opponent left later in the year.
#3 Alamosa (3-4) at 2A Hoehne (5-2)
Alamosa comes into the matchup at 3-4 and looking for momentum after falling in 5 to Pueblo County. Alamosa has some big matchups upcoming with Pagosa Springs, Centauri, and Cortez. Any momentum Alamosa can get will be helpful. Hoehne is 5-2 on the season and have won 3 straight matchups. This will be a huge game for Hoehne and probably their toughest opponent to date. Hoehne moves back into league play with a huge game against Fowler on 9/12.
#8 Resurrection Christian (1-1) vs 5A Fort Collins (4-0)
Resurrection Christian will be stepping up to face 5A Fort Collins on Thursday night. Resurrection Christian sits at 1-1 on the season they did grab a nice league win over Valley on 8/29. Resurrection Christian moves back into 3A play next week against Wellington on 9/12 this is also a league game. Fort Collins is a 5A school sitting at 4-0. They are ranked #3 in the Maxpreps Rankings.
#9 Sterling (4-1) at Estes Park (1-6)
Sterling comes into the matchup at 4-1 and they suffered their first loss of the season on Tuesday against 4A Longmont 3-2. Sterling will look to bounce back and look for league win #2 when they face Estes Park. Sterling will face University next Tuesday and is a huge league game, so any momentum is key. Estes Park sits at 1-6 on the season. They come into the match on a 3 game losing streak. They are hoping to get league off on the right foot as this is their first league matchup of the year.
#10 Liberty Common (5-4) vs Northridge (1-3)
Liberty Common comes into the matchup with a 5-4 record. They have won 2 of their last 3 games including a solid win over 2A Strasburg on 9/5. Liberty Common sits at 0-1 in league and they won’t face another league opponent this next Tuesday when they host Eaton. Northridge comes into the matchup with a 1-3 record. Their last match was against Greeley West and they lost 3-0. They will be looking to snap their 3 game losing streak against Liberty Common. Northridge is 3A but plays against a 4A League and they kick off league play on 9/12 against Mountain View.

Friday
#3 Alamosa (3-4) vs Pagosa Springs (2-4)
Alamosa comes into the matchup with a 3-4 record. Alamosa has won 2 of their last 3 matchups but dropped a tough one last night losing in 5 to 4A Pueblo County. Alamosa as mentioned above will face Hoehne on Thursday. Alamosa will look to snap their losing streak and get ready for a top 10 matchup with Centauri next Tuesday. This is the opening league matchup for both Alamosa and Pagosa Springs. Pagosa Springs enters the matchup at 2-4 overall. They are on a bit of a slid going 1-3 in their last 4 matchups. Pagosa Springs has played a tough schedule and they will look for the upset to open league. Pagosa Springs will face Montezuma-Cortez in a league matchup Saturday.
#7 Lamar (3-1) vs Ellicott (2-3)
Lamar enters the contest with a 3-1 record, and they opened league play on the right foot with a 3-0 win over rival La Junta. Lamar looks to improve to 2-0 in league before a match up with undefeated Vanguard next week. Ellicott enters the contest with a 2-3 record. Ellicott snapped their 3-game losing streak defeating Manzanola 2-1. Ellicott has had a long break and we will see if they have things ironed out before this key matchup.

This is a tournament. All 3 teams mentioned above are ranked and I think the matchup to watch is Platte Valley vs Centauri. That will be a huge match to see where both teams stand in terms of making a deep playoff push. Centauri also has a huge matchup next week with #3 Alamosa to kick off league play.
