Class 3A Softball Weekly Preview-By Tayler Rocha

We move into the weekend, and we look back at the past weeks results and the upcoming games.  We are shifting from using rankings and start using the CHSAA Seeding Index which was published yesterday.  We talk about the games last night but the Rankings are from Thursday at 1pm. 

#1 Eaton

Eaton finishes this last week of play with an 8-1 overall record. The Reds beat Wiley 9-0, Palmer Ridge 10-0, and took their fist loss of the season from Holy Family 3-6. Leading the team so far this season in stolen bases is Emma Anderson with 10 stolen bases, 15 runs, 12 hits, 2 home runs and 10 RBI. Sadie Ross is leading the team with a 0.67 ERA. Eaton will be facing Strasburg on 9/9 at home, will be on the road against Weld Central on 9/12, and will be back at home against Lyons on 9/13.

#2 Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson starts this week of play with an 9-0 overall record. They are 5-0 in league play and currently sit 3rd in the Denver Prep League. The Spartans defeated Denver North earlier this week 13-3 and Overland 13-1 on 9/7. The team is lead by Sophia Sandoval in RBIs (18), runs (17) and has 1 home run. Layla Colonna is leading in stolen bases with 12 and also has 19 runs and 18 hits. Sophia Sandoval also has 19 runs  and Maya Cordova is a co-leader in hits with 18 and 2 home runs.. Eva Sanchez has the lowest ERA at 2.25 and has 2 home runs. Thomas Jefferson will be looking to continue their win streak and improve their league standings with their games against Heritage on 9/9, Mountain Range on 9/11, Lincoln on 9/12, and Denver South on 9/14.

#3 The Academy

 The Wildcats are sitting with an 10-1 record entering this week of play and are starting their league play at 2-0 defeating Rocky Mountain Prep SMART 15-0. Leading the team stats is Cadence Brenner with 7 stolen bases, Victoria Pearson with 22 runs, Isabella Bruntz with 17 hits and 24 RBI. The Wildcats will be facing Mullen this week on 9/8, Peak to Peak on 9/12, and Forage Christian on 9/14.

#4 Strasburg

Strasburg sits at 9-2 overall, 1-1 in league play and is 6th in the Patriot league. This last week they defeated Wheat Ridge 10-3 and Brush 16-9. They will be looking to continue their success when they face Eaton on 9/9 and Weld Central on 9/14. Leading the team in stats is Graecyn Graf with 5 stolen bases, Anna Vetter with a 1.95 ERA, Addi Kent with 18 runs and 19 hits, and Savanah Bradley with 12 RBI.

#5 University

Sitting at number 1 in the Patriot league, University is 2-0  in league play and 10-3 overall. The Bulldogs beat Wiley 14-5, lost to Erie 3-13 and Palmer Ridge 9-7, but was able to bounce back and beat Northridge 16-5 and Berthoud 3-1.  They will be on the road for their next league game against Timnath on 9/12. Leading the team in stats is Natalie Galindo with 4 home runs, 20 hits and 18 RBI, Ellie Baca with 13 stolen bases, Sydney Goetzel with a 1.81 ERA, and  Jasi Cole with 17 runs.

#6 Delta

Leading the Western Slope league, Delta is 5-0 in league play and 7-3 overall.  This last week, they defeated Montezuma-Cortez 9-2, Basalt 14-0 and 19-9, and Cedaredge 10-8. This week the Panthers will be playing Eagle Valley on 9/8, Alamosa 9/9, and Gunnison on 9/12. Delta is led by Juelz Sandoval with 4 home runs and a 18 RBI, Tatem Miller with 12 stolen bases and a 0.34 ERA, and Velma Baily with 16 runs and 20 hits.

#7 Lyons

Lyons is heading into this next week of play with a 10-2 overall record, with 5-1 in league play, leaving them sitting 2nd in the Patriot league. The Lions lost to Sterling 14-0, but were able to bounce back and beat Wellington 5-0 and 11-5. Leading the team stats is Elle Magaldi with 7 stolen bases and 16 runs, Ceci Chiaravalle with a 1.70 ERA, and Aca Vasquez with 19 hits and 11 RBI. Lyons will face Rocky Mountain Prep SMART on 9/11, Brush on 9/12, and Eaton on 9/13.

#8 Wellington

With a 7-3 overall record, Wellington is sitting 7th in the Patriot league with a 2-2 league record. This last week, the Eagles defeated Valley 16-1 but lost to Lyons 0-5 and 11-5. Stat leaders for Wellington are: Kensley Story with 3 home runs, 20 runs, 12 hits, Charley Somday with 15 stolen bases, Jasmin Tafoya with a 0.82 ERA and Taylor Morgan with 14 RBI. The Eagles will be looking to bounce back from their losses this week when they face Berthoud on 9/12, and Platte Valley on 9/14.

#9 Sterling

The Tigers currently sit at a 6-3 overall record, with 2-1 in league play. Sterling is sitting at 4th in the Patriot League. They beat Lyons 14-0, and Valley 10-0 and will be looking to continue this win streak with their games against Fort Lupton on 9/8, Holyoke on 9/8, Roky Ford and Wray-Yuma on 9/9, Resurrection Christian on 9/12, and Brush on 9/14.

#10 Fort Lupton

 The Bluedevils are the early leaders of the Frontier league with a 1-0 record in league play and 7-2 overall. They beat Englewood 15-1 to get this early league lead. Fort Lupton will be looking to add more wins to their record when they play Limon and Sterling on 9/8, Rocky Ford and Brush on 9/9, and Arvada on 9/14.

#11 Wiley

 Sitting 2nd in the Tri peaks league with a 2-0 record, Wiley has an overall record of 9-2 after losing to Eaton 9-0 and University 14-5, but beating Forge Christian 11-14 and Lu Junta 5-3. Leading the Panthers in stats is Zoe Martinez with 20 runs, 17 hits, 15 RBI, and 7 stolen bases. Anna Wollert has the teams best ERA at 2.95. Wiley has no scheduled games this week and will resume play on 9/19 against Woodland Park.

#12 Lamar

Lamar is currently sitting at 7-3 overall, beating La Junta 4-3 this last week. Leading the Thunder stats is Delorin Bellomy with 9 stolen bases, a 2.91 ERA, and a 17 RBI, and Annabelle Morales with 19 runs and 19 hits. They will be playing a double header 9/8 against Palmer Ridge, will have a couple of tournament games on 9/9, and will get some league games in starting with Dolores Huerta on 9/12 and James Irwin on 9/14.

#13 Alamosa

 The Mean Moose are currently sitting at 1st in the Tri-Peaks league with a 7-3 overall record and 1-0 in league play.  They defeated Woodland Park 14-0 and Gunnison 9-3. They will be looking to continue their success when they play Delta on 9/9 and Rocky Ford on 9/14. Top players for Alamosa are Lexany Heredia with 1 home run, 14 hits, and a 19 RBI and Araceli Molina with 9 stolen bases and 16 runs.

#14 Gunnison

Sitting at 5-3-1 overall and 3-1 in league, Gunnison is currently 2nd in the Western Slope League. The lost their game this week against Alamosa 9-3, but will be looking to recover and will play Meeker on 9/9 in a double header and will play Delta on 9/12. Leading the Cowboys are Kylee McDougal and Maddie Vollendorg with 1 home run each. Maddie also has 7 stolen bases and Kylee also has 14 hits and a 16 RBI. Isabella Crown has 15 Runs and a 10.10 ERA.

#15 Rocky Ford

Rocky Ford will be looking at some league games this week and will be looking to improve their 5-6 record. The Meloneers defeated Widefield 4-3 and Limon 12-2. Deja Warman is leading Rocky Ford on stolen bases with 10 and runs with 18. Kamil Lovato leads with 18 hits and Ashlyn Berg has a 13 RBI. They will face Burlington on 9/8, Brush on 9/8, Sterling on 9/9, Fort Lupton on 9/9, James Irwin on 9/12 and Alamosa on 9/14.
