
Class 3A Softball Weekly Preview-by Tayler Rocha
We continue to use the CHSAA Seeding Index to look at the top teams in Class 3A. We take a look back at the past week results and a look at the schedule ahead. We are moving deeper into the regular season and we will start looking next week at the possible playoff scenarios next week.
#1 Eaton
The Reds are sitting 2nd in the Patriot League with a 3-0 league record and an 11-1 overall record. This previous week, Eaton defeated Strasburg 10-0, Weld Central 10-0, and Lyons 8-1. They will be looking to continue their 3 game winning streak this week when they play Sterling on 9/16, Berthoud on 9/19, and Platte Valley on 9/21. Leading the teams stats are Emma Anderson with 3 home runs, 11 stolen bases, 18 runs, and 16 hits, Sadie Ross with 0.62 ERA, and Julia Meagher with a 16 RBI.
#2 Delta
The Delta Panthers have a 10-3 record overall, with a 6-0 league record and are currently 1st in the Western Slope League. Delta is on a 10 game win streak and have most recently defeated Eagle Valley 17-0, Alamosa 13-0, and Gunnison 11-10. They will be looking to add to the winning streak this week against Durango on 9/15 and Palisade on 9/19. Leading the Panthers are Juelz Sandoval with 4 home runs and a 25 RBI, Tatem Miller with 15 stolen bases, and a 0.45 ERA, and Velma Baily with 23 runs and 24 hits.
#3 Strasburg
Strasburg has a 9-3 overall record, and have a 1-2 league record and are currently 8th in the Patriot League. They recently lost to Eaton 10-0, and played Weld Central (Score not updated). Strasburg will be looking to get more wins under their belt this week against Jefferson Academy on 9/16, Sterling on 9/19, and Berthoud on 9/21. Leading the team is Aubrie Archuleta with 2 home runs, Graecyn Graf with 5 stolen bases, Anna Vetter with a 1.95 ERA, Addie Kent with 18 runs and 19 hits, and Savanah Bradley with a 12 RBI.
#4 University
The University Bulldogs are currently 1st on the Patriot league after having a 3-0 league record and 11-3 overall. In their last game against Timnath , they beat them 21-0. The Bulldogs will be fighting to hold their position this week when they play Valley on 9/15, and Wellington on 9/19 and Resurrection Christian on 9/21. Leading University so far is Natalie Galindo is 4 home runs, 20 runs and 24 hits, Jasi Cole with 10 stolen bases, Sydney Goetzel with a 1.81 ERA,
#5 Lyons
Lyons currently has a 12-3 overall record, 6-2 league record, and are sitting 5th in the Patriot League. The Lions beat Rocky Mountain Prep SMART 15-0, and Brush 6-2, but lost to Eaton 1-8. They will be facing The Academy on 9/15, and Weld Central on 9/19. Leading Lyons is Elle Magaldi with 8 stolen bases and 18 runs, Ceci Chiaracalle with a 1.95 ERA, Ava Vasquez with 19 hits, and Gretta Wynja with a 13 RBI.
#6 Sterling
With 4-1 league record, Sterling is sitting 4th in the Patriot league and has an 11-3-1 overall record. The tie came from Fort Lupton with a 6-6 score, but they were able to beat Holyoke 11-5, Rocky Ford 8-5, Wray/Yuma 11-3, Resurrection Christian 20-7, and Brush 14-12. They will be looking to move up in the league this week when they play Eaton on 9/16, Strasburg on 9/19, and Weld Central on 9/21.
#7 The Academy
The Wildcats continue their 8-game winning streak after defeating Mullen 10-0, Peak to Peak 10-0, and Forge Christian 16-0. This gives them a 13-1 overall record, with 4-0 in league play, and has The Academy sitting 1st in the Denver Metro League. Leading the team in stats is Mackenzie Pearson with 3 home runs Victoria Pearson with 9 stolen bases, 33 runs,27 hits and a 32 RBI, Isabella Bruntz with a 1.56 ERA. We will see if the Wildcats can continue their winning streak this week against Lyons on 9/15, and Jefferson Academy on 9/19.
#8 Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson suffered their first loss of the season against Heritage 1-10 but were able to bounce back and beat Lincoln 17-0. This leaves the Spartans with a 10-1 overall record, 6-0 of that being league play, and they are currently sitting 1st in the Denver Prep League. They will be fighting to hold onto that sport this week against Westminster on 9/19, and Northfield on 9/21. Stat leaders for Thomas Jefferson are Maya Cordova with 2 home runs, Layla Colonna with 15 stolen bases, 22 runs and 24 hits, Mikayla Macias with a 1.87 ERA and Sophia Sandoval with a 21 RBI.
#9 Wiley
Sitting in the 4th spot in the Tri Peals league, Wiley has a 9-2 overall record with 2-0 league record. They have not played since 9/6, but will be looking for strong game play when they resume on 9/19 against Woodland Park and against Rocky Ford on 9/21. Zoe Martinez still leads the team with a 15 RBI, 17 hits, 20 runs and 7 stolen bases and Anna Wollert has a 2.95 ERA.
#10 Wellington
Sitting 7th in the Patriot League with a 3-3 league record, Wellington has a 8-4 overall record. After losing to Lyons and Berthoud (14-0), the Eagles were able to bounce back and beat Platte Valley 12-9. They will be hoping to add to their win streak this week /with games against Greely West on 9/15, tournament play on 9/16, University on 9/19, and Valley on 9/21. Kensley Story leads the team in home runs with 3, 22 runs and 14 hits, Charley Somday with 17 stolen bases, and Scarlet McGuire with a 15 RBI.
Fort Lupton
Leading the Frontier league so far with a 1-0 league record and a 8-4-1 record overall, the Bluedevils tied with Sterling 6-6, lost to Rocky Ford 2-4 and Brush 3-7. The will be looking to bounce back this week against Holyoke on 9/16 in a double deader, Centaurus on 9/19, and Jefferson on 9/21.
Rocky Ford
In 2nd place in the Tri Peaks League, the Meloneers have a 1-0 league record and a 9-7 overall record. This last week, Rocky Ford beat Burlington 15-0, Brush 11-4, Fort Lupton 4-2, James Irwin 15-0 but lost to Sterling 5-8. Leading the team in stats is Ashley Berg with 2 home runs, Deja Warman with 12 stolen bases, 22 runs and 22 hits, and Leticia Garcia with a 21 RBI. The Meloneers will be looking to hold their position in the league and will play La Junta on 9/19 and Wiley on 9/21.
Lamar
The Thunder are currently 1st in the Tri Peaks league with a 2-0 league record and currently have a 11-5 overall record. Lamar defeated Palmer Ridge in their first game 17-0 but lost their second 5-2. They also lost to Cheyenne Mountain 3-1 but came back and beat Canon City 13-0, Dolores Huerta Prep 15-0, and James Irwin 19-0. Top Performers from Lamar are Delorin Bellomy wit 2 home runs, 27 hits, a 21 RBI and 12 stolen bases, Mariah Sigala with 1.67 ERA, and Annabelle Morales with 27 runs. This week they will play Florence on 9/19, and Woodland Park on 9/21.
Alamosa
The Mean Moose currently hold 3rd place in the Tri Peaks league with a 1-0 league record and sit with a 7-4 record overall. They recently lost to Delta 13-0, but will be looking to bounce back and get more wins against Gunnison on 9/19, and James Irwin on 9/21. Leading Alamosa in stats are Araceli Molina with 10 stolen bases and 16 runs, Olivia Castillo with a 5.14 ERA, and Lexany Heredia with 14 hits and a 19 RBI.
Gunnison
Gunnison has a 6-5-1 overall record, 4-3 in league play and are currently 2nd in the Western Slope League. The Cowboys split with Meeker and lost their first game 23-21 but beat them in the second game 14-9. Gunnison also lost this week to Delta 11-10. The team will be looking to bounce back from a rough week and find some wins against James Irwin on 9/16, and Alamosa on 9/19. Leading the Cowboys are Kylee McDougal and Maddie Vollendorf with 1 home run, Maddie also with 8 stolen bases, 20 runs, and 21 hits and Kylee also has a 19 RBI.
Brush
Brush as a 5-7 overall record with -0-5 league record and are sitting 13th in the Patriot league. The -, Beetdiggers were able to beat Wray/Yuma 11-1, Limon 8-7, and Fort Lupton 7-3, but lost to Rocky Ford 4-11, Lyons 2-6, and Sterling 12-14. They will be looking to bounce back and get more wins this week against Platte Valley on 9/19 and Timnath on 9/21. Leaders from Brush are Brisa Aguirre-Garcia with 2 home runs and 14 hits, Avery Lefever with 5 stolen bases and 15 runs and Tegan Halouska with a 14 RBI.
