For the first time this year we use the CHSAA Seeding Index and look at the top 16 teams in Class 2A Volleyball. Some big matchups up coming and we look at some of the big matchups.

#1 Wiggins

Wiggins experienced their first loss of the season against Platte Valley 1-3 and leaves them with a 9-1 record overall, but still 1-0 in league. The Tigers currently sit 2nd in the Lower Platte League and will be looking to keep that position as league play really starts to ramp up this week. Wiggins will play Sedgwick County at home on 9/21, which will be the only game for them this week. Leaders for the Tigers are Taelynn Epple with 15 blocks and 48 kills, Tyleigh Feseke with 22 serving aces and 147 kills, and Kennedy Kerr with 96 digs and 319 assists.

#2 Rye

With a 10 game win streak, Rye is currently sitting 1st in the Santa Fe League with a 6-0 league record and 10-1 overall. The Thunderbolts beat Holly 3-0 and St. Mary’s 3-1 during this last week of play.  Coming up for Rye are two league game against Fowler at home on 9/21, and Rocky Ford on the road on 9/26. Leading the team is Isabella Bond with 30 total blocks, Jaklyn Newitt with 44 serving aces and 140 assists, Desiree Ruiz with 154 digs, and Jordan Holgerson with 71 kills.

#3 Mancos

Sitting 1st in the San Juan Basin League, Mancos has a 4-0 league record and are 10-1 overall. The Bluejays had their first loss in a close game (2-3) against Dove Creek but were able to beat Nucla 3-0 earlier in the week. Mancos will be taking a week off to get ready for rest of the season and will resume on 9/28 against Dolores. Stat leaders for the Bluejays are Haylie Higgins with 39 blocks, Aysia Mathews with 32 serving aces and 283 assists, and Teya Yeomans with 135 digs and 179 kills.

#4 Sedgewick County

With a loss to Liberty Common this last week, Sedgewick County’s 7 game win streak was lost, leaving them with a 9-2 overall record so far this season. With no league games under their belt yet, the Cougars will be looking to bounce back and move their way up into league rankings this week, starting off with  Wiggins on 9/21 on the road. Leading the Cougars so far this season are Abigail Dillie with 35 total blocks, Keyanna Ehnes with 25 servicing aces, Lainee Nein with 165 dig and 129 kills, and Ryen Carlson with 195 assists.

#5 Trinidad

With a 9-0 overall record (3-0 in league play), the Miners are currently 3rd in the Southern Peaks League. They were able to defeat Sanford in a close game last week 3-2 at home. This week they will play Sierra Grande on 9/22, Del Norte on 9/23 and Raton on 9/26. Leading the miners in stats is Hannah Chavez with 13 total blocks, Monse Viera-Flores with 54 serving aces and 34 kills, and Layla Maes with 42 assists.

#6 Lake County

Lack county continues their undefeated record so far and have am 11-0 overall record, and 5-0 in league. Because of this, the Panthers are currently 1st in the Frontier league. This last week, Lake County was able to defeat Arrupe Jesuit and Middle Park, both 3-0. They will be looking to keep their streak going this week as they play The Pinnacle 9/22, Platte Canyon on 9/23 and Soroco 9/26. Stat leaders for the Panthers are Jaycee Windorski with 17 total blocks and 189 kills, Kelsea Roeder with 39 serving aces, Isabelle Macias with 59 digs, and Maggie Order with 255 assists.

#7 Front Range Christian

With a 4-0 league record and a 13-2 overall record, Front Range Chrisitan is currently sitting 1st in the Mile High League. They are on a 5-game win streak, recently beating Dayspring Christian 3-1 and Bishop Machebeuf 3-0. The Falcons will be looking to add more wins to their streak this week against Dawson School on 9/22, and Denver Christian on 9/26. Leading the Falcons in stats are Skyla Anglada with 30 total blocks, Allie Howard with 34 serving aces, Hannah Keyfauver with 276 digs, Emma Bolz with 371 assists and Eadlin Hoff with 130 kills.

#8 Hoehne

Last week, Hoehne was able to beat Las Animas and Rocky Ford both 3-0, leaving them with a 5-1 league record and 8-3 overall, giving them 4th in the Santa Fe League currently. The Farmers will be looking to add more wins to their 3-game win streak this weekend with tournament play on 9/23 where they will be playing Simla and Soroco to kick it off. They will also see Swink this week on the road on 9/26. Leading the Farmers stats are Aspen Garrison with 22 total blocks, Ellegra Gutierrez with 33 serving aces, Phoenix SanRoman with 94 digs and 165 assists, and Janae Ramos with 101 kills.

#9 Strasburg

At 2nd place in the Union Pacific League, Strasburg currently has a 1-0 league record and are 6-4 overall. They defeated The Academy 3-0 and will be looking to get more wins this week against Valley on 9/21, Burlington on 9/23, Elbert on 9/25, and Flagler on 9/26. Top performers from Strasburg are Natalie Damron with 18 total blocks and 106 kills, and Peighton Marrero with 21 serving aces, 96 digs, and 214 assists.

# 10 Plateau Valley

Currently 3rd in the Western Slope League, Plateau Valley has a 5-1 league record and are 8-1 overall.  The Cowboys were able to defeat Vail Mountain and Cedaredge 3-0 to get to their 8-game win streak. They will be looking to add more wins to this streak this week against Moffat County on 9/21, Nucla on 9/22, and Olathe on 9/26. Leaders for the Cowboys are Kyanna Himes with 8 total blocks, Meloni Miller with 45 serving aces and 167 assists, Sierra Piland with 56 digs, and Emaline Ealey with 87 kills.

Vail Christian

Vail Christian currently has a 5-0 league record, a 7-2 overall record and are sitting 2nd in the Western Slope League with a 6-game win streak. The Saints were able to recently defeat Grand Valley 3-1 and Vail Mountain 3-2. This week they will be looking to beat Meeker at home on 9/22. Stat leaders for the Saints are Hannah Leonard with 13 total blocks, Logan Nobrega with 22 serving aces, Jessie Allen with 123 digs,  and 139 assists, and Mary McClarrinon with 65 kills.

Fowler

The Grizzlies currently hold 2nd place in the Santa Fe League with a 6-1 league record and a 7-2 record overall. Fowler defeated Swink 3-0 and Las Animas 3-1 this last week, and will be looking for continued success this week against Rye on 9/21, and Holly on 9/28. Leading the Grizzlies are Madison Porto with 9 total blocks, Kory Pieper with 23 serving aces, and 59 digs, Syriah Alvarez with 134 assists, and Lawren Johnson with 57 kills.

Swink

Swink is currently sitting 3rd in the Santa Fe League with a 6-1 league record and a 7-2 record overall.  They lost to fowler last week 0-3, but were able to come back and beat Swallows Charter Academy 3-0.  They will be looking to continue their win streak this week against Walsenburg on 9/21, Sangre de Cristo on 9/23, and Hoehne on 9/26.  Leaders from the Lions are Taylor Mendenhall with 21 total blocks and 55 kills, Kylee Romero with 19 serving aces,  Larriana Taggart with 101 digs, and Briana McElroy with 80 assists.

Buena Vista

The Demons have a 4-0 league record, 10-3 overall record and are currently 2nd in the Southern Peaks League. This last week, Buena Vista was able to beat Center and Crested Butte 3-0 to continue their 7-game winning streak. This week they will be playing James Irwin on 9/23 and Sanford on 9/26 to add more wins to their streak. Top performers from the Demons are Daisy Lubbers with 35 total blocks, Sydney Feuerstein with 27 serving aces, Hannah Wingo with 100 digs, Audry Johnson with 186 assists, Madeline Litvay with 115 kills.

Calhan

Calhan currently is on a 2-game win streak with an 8-2 overall record. The Bulldogs were able to beat ECA last week 3-0 and will be playing Fountain Valley on 9/21, Soroco on 9/22, and Hanover on 9/28. Stat leaders for Calhan are Haley Gerhart with 17 total blocks and 58 kills, Tialer Willis with 16 serving aces, Katelyn Lindgren with 121 digs, and Aubrie Waugh with 95 assists.

Limon

With a 5-3 overall record, and a 2-1 league record, the badgers are currently sitting in 4th place in the Union Pacific League. Limon defeated Flagler last week 3-0, but fell to Merino 3-1. They will be looking to bounce back this week and get a winning streak going as they play Deer Trail on 9/21 and Peyton on 9/26. Leading the Badgers are Teal Schmidt with 28 total blocks and 16 serving aces, Katelyn Tacha with 138 digs and 171 assists, and Jentri Marx with 101 kills.
