Class 3A Weekly Softball Preview-By Tayler Rocha

We continue to use the CHSAA Seeding Index to look at the top teams in Class 3A.  We take a look back at the past week results and a look at the schedule ahead.  We are moving deeper into the regular season and we will start looking next week at the possible playoff scenarios next week.

#1 Eaton

Sitting 1st in the Patriot league, Eaton has a 6-0 league record and are 14-1 overall record. The reds scored a total of 52 runs this last week, and beat Sterling 23-1, Berthoud 6-2, and Platte Valley 23 – 1. They will be looking to add wins to their 6-game win streak this week against The Academy on 9/22, Timnath on 9/23, University on 9/26, and Valley on 9/28. Top performers from Eaton are Sadie Ross with 4 home runs, Emma Anderson with 12 stolen bases, 23 runs and 21 hits, Destrie Greiman with a 0.82 ERA, and Stephanie Bingley with a 19 RBI.

#2 Strasburg

Strasburg has an overall record of 11-4 on the season and currently have a 2-3 league record, which has them sitting 7th in the Patriots league. In this last week of play, Strasburg were able to beat Jefferson Academy 16-0 and Sterling 5-2, but lost to Berthoud 2-8.  They will be looking to add more wins to their record and move their way up in the league rankings this week against Platte Valley on 9/23, The Academy on 9/25, Timnath 9/26 and University on 9/28. Stat leaders for Strasburg are Aubrie Archuleta with 2 home runs, Graecyn Graf with 8 stolen bases and a 16 RBI, Anna Vetter with a 2.07 ERA, Addi Kent with 20 runs, and 21 hits.

#3 Delta

Currently holding the 1st place spot in the Western Slope league, Delta is 6-0 in league play and 12-3 on the season. The Panthers defeated Durango 16-3 and Palisade 9-1 to add to their win streak and make it 12 wins in a row. They will be looking to make it 16 at the end of this next week of play when they face their opponents Meeker on 9/22 in a double header, Aspen on 9/23, and Cedaredge on 9/28. Leaders from the Panthers are Julez Sandoval with 4 home runs a 31 RBI and 26 hits, Tatem Miller with 19 stolen bases and a 0.33 ERA, and Valema Baily with 27 runs

#4 University

With a 6-0 league record, and sitting 14-3 overall, University is in 2nd in the Patriot league and are currently on a 6 game win streak. The bulldogs defeated Valley 13-1, Wellington 13-6 and RCHS 12-2 this last week, and will be looking to continue their success this week against Brush on 9/23, Eaton on 9/26, and Strasburg 9/28. The bulldogs are led by Sydney Goetzel with 4 home runs, a 28 RBI and a 1.81 ERA, Ellie Baca with 13 stolen bases, and Natalie Galindo with 26 runs and 30 hits.

#5 Lyons

Currently 3rd on the Patriot league, Lyons has a 7-2 league record and are 14-3 on the season. The Lions were able to bounce back this week from their loss to Eaton and beat The Academy 4-2 and Weld Central 4-1. They are led by Ceci Chiaravalle with 1 home run, Elle Magaldi with 8 stolen bases, 18 runs, a 15 RBI and a 1.80 ERA, and Ava Vasquez with 25 hits. Lyons will face Berthoud on 9/26 and Platte Valley 9/28 to hold onto their league position.

#6 Thomas Jefferson

With an 8-0 league record and 12-1 overall, Thomas Jefferson are currently sitting 3rd in the Denver Prep League. The Spartans managed to score 34 runs in 2 games this last week and beat Westminster 19-5 and Northfield 15-3. Thomas Jefferson has a busy schedule this week with games against Discovery Canyon on 9/23, Jefferson on 9/25, Mountain Range on 9/26, and Denver East on 9/27. Top performers for the Spartans are Maya Cordova and Eva Sanchez with 2 home runs, Sophia Sandoval with 16 stolen bases, 27 runs and a 30 RBI, Mikayla Macias with a 1.75 ERA, and Layla Colonna with 27 hits.

#7 The Academy

The Wildcats are currently sitting in 1st place in the Denver Metro league with a 5-0 league record. The Academy fell to Lyons last week 2-4, but were able to defeat Jefferson Academy 17-0 to give them an overall record of 14-2. They will be playing a few non-league games this week with Eaton on 9/22, Strasburg on 9/25, and Denver East on 9/26 and then will have a league game against Peak to Peak on 9/28. Stat leaders for the Wildcats are Mackenzie Pearson with 3 home runs, Ava Fladung with 9 stolen bases, Victoria Pearson with 38 runs and 31 hits, Isabella Bruntz with a 33 RBI and a 1.65 ERA.

#8 Sterling

The Tigers are currently sitting 5th in the Patriot league with a 4-3 league record and are 11-5-1 on the season. Sterling had some tough games this week and lost to Eaton 1-23 and to Strasburg 2-5. Sterling will be looking to bounce back and get some wins this week against Limon on 9/25 and Berthoud on 9/28.

#9 Wiley

In 3rd place in the Tri Peaks League, Wiley has a 4-0 league record and a 11-2 overall record. The Panthers defeated Woodland Park 15-0 and Rocky Ford 5-4. Top players for Wiley are Zoe Martinez with 1 home run, 7 stolen bases, 17 hots and a 15 RBI and Dixie Bitner with 20 runs. The Panthers will be looking to extend their 5-game win streak against Lamar on 9/26, and James Irwin on 9/28.

#10 Fort Lupton

The Bluedevils are  currently 1st in the Frontier league with a 3-0 league record and are 12-4-1 overall on the season. After a week off, Fort Lupton was able to see good success with wins against Holyoke 9-5 and 17-0, Centaurus 18-2, and Jefferson 17-0. They will be looking to continue their success this week against Middle Park on 9/23, Longmont on 9/25 and Platte Canyon 9/28.

Rocky Ford

Rocky Ford is 10-8 on the season with a 2-1 league record and are currently 4th in the Tri Peaks league. The Meloneers split the week and beat La Junta 6-4 but fell to Wiley 4-5. They will be looking to get some more wins this week when they play Dolores Huerta Prep on 9/26 and Florence on 9/28. Rocky Ford is led by Leticia Garcia with 3 home runs and a 26 RBI, Deja Warman with 16 stolen bases, 29 runs, and a 3.83 ERA, and Kamil Lovato with 27 hits.

Lamar

The Thunder is currently 1st in the Tri Peak league with a 4-0 league record and are 13-5 overall. Lamar was able to beat Florence 21-0 and Woodland Park 12-0. They will be looking to continue their success this week against Alamosa on 9/23 in a league title game, Wiley on 9/26, and La Junta on 9/28. Stat leaders for Lamar are Delorin Bellomy with 3 home runs, 13 stolen bases, 32 hits and a 28 RBI, Mariah Sigala with a 1.46 ERA, and Annabelle Morales with 32 runs.

Alamosa

Alamosa is currently behind Lamar and are sitting 2nd on the Tri Peaks league. They are 3-0 in league play and are 9-4 overall. The Mean Moose were able to bounce back from their loss to Delta and beat Gunnison 8-6 and James Irwin 19-0. Alamosa will be looking to take Lamars 1st place in the league this week when they face each other on 9/26, and then will be looking to hold their lead and get more wins against La Junta on 9/26 and Dolores Huerta Prep on 9/28. Alamosa is currently being led by Lexany Heredia with 2 home runs, 18 hits and a 26 RBI, Araceli Molina with 11 stolen bases and 18 runs, and Olivia Castillo with a 4.91 ERA.

Wellington

Wellington is 10-7 on the season, 5-4 in league play and are currently 6th in the Patriot League. The Eagles saw mixed success this last week with losses against Greeley West 0-12, Eagle Valley 11-15, and University 6-13, but were able to beat Northfield 16-5 and Valley 18-2. This week they will play Forge Christian on 9/22, RCHS on 9/26 and Brush on 9/27. Stat leaders for Wellington are Kensley Story with 4 home runs, 31 runs and 23 hits, Charley Somday with 23 stolen bases, and Scarlet McGuire with a 20 RBI.

Gunnison

Sitting 2nd in the Western Slope League, the Cowboys are 4-3 in league play and are 7-6-1 overall. The Cowboys had mixed success this week and beat James Irwin 17-2 but lost to Alamosa 8-6. They will be looking to get more wins under their belt this week as they play Sierra in a double header on 9/23, and Aspen in a double header on 9/26. Leading the team is Maddie Vollendorf with 9 stolen bases and 24 hits, and Kylee McDougal with 23 runs and a 23 RBI. Both are leading the team in home runs with 1 each.

Brush

Brush has a 9-8 overall record, are 2-5 in league play and are currently 10th in the Patriot League. After a loss to Pueblo County 1-16, the Beetdiggers were able to beat Northfield 16-5, Eagle Valley 19-9, Platte Valley 13-1, and Timnath 18-3. They will be looking to continue this win streak when they play University on 9/23, Valley on 9/26, and Wellington 9/27. Leading the team in stats is Brisa Aguirre-Garcia and Alysia Hernandez with 2 home runs each, Michelle Headley with 9 stolen bases, Brisa Aguiree-Garica with 25 runs, Avery Lefever with 27 hits, and Alysia Hernandez with a 22 RBI.
