
Class 3A Softball Weekly Preview-by Tayler Rocha
We continue to use the CHSAA Seeding Index to pick the top 12 teams we preview for the week. We will also be looking at teams 29-34 who are on the bubble for making regionals.
#1 Eaton
Sitting 1st in the Seeding Index and 1st in the Patriot league, Eaton has a 9-0 league record and are 18-1 overall. The Reds were able to defeat The Academy 15-1, Timnath 18-3, University 12-0 and Valley 15-1 this last week to get a 10-game win streak. Eaton has 4 games left on the schedule and will be playing Wellington on 9/30, Northridge on 10/2, Resurrection Christian on 10/3, and Brush on 10/5. Top performers for Eaton are Sadie Ross with 7 home runs and a 29 RBI, Emma Anderson with 16 stolen bases, 33 runs and 25 hits, and Julia Meagher with a 0.28 ERA.
#2 Strasburg
Strasburg has a 15-4 record overall, are 5-3 in league play, and are 5th in the Patriot league. They were able to bounce back from their loss to Berthoud and defeated Platte Valley 13-0, The Academy 12-9, Timnath 15-2 and University 1-0 this previous week. Strasburg has 5 games left on the schedule, and will play Valley on 9/30, Wellington on 10/3, Resurrection Christian on 10/5, and Weld Central in a double header on 10/7. Leaders from Strasburg are Graceyn Graf with 3 home runs, 8 stolen bases and a 25 RBI, Anna Vetter with a 2.05 ERA, and Addi Kent with 26 runs and 26 hits.
#3 University
University is sitting 2nd in the Patriot Legue and are 7-2 in league play and 15-5 overall. The Bulldogs were able to beat Brush 7-5, but fell to Eaton 0-12 and Strasburg 0-1. With only three games left on the schedule, University will play Weld Central on 9/30, Lyons on 10/3, and Sterling on 10/5. Stat leaders for the Bulldogs are Sydney Goetzel and Natalie Galindo with 4 home runs, Ellie Baca with 14 stolen bases, Sydney Goetzel with a 2.84 ERA and a 29 RBI, and Natalie Galindo with 26 runs and 31 hits.
#4 Lyons
Lyons is currently 4th in the Patriot league with an 8-3 league record and a 15-4 overall record. The Lions were able to defeat The Academy 4-2, Weld Central 4-1 and Platte Valley 6-2, but fell to Berthoud 1-2. There are two game left on their schedule and will play University on 10/3 and Valey on 10/4.
#5 Delta
In 1st place in the Western Slope, the panthers are 10-0 in league play and 16-3 overall. Delta defeated Meeker 10-0 and 8-7, Aspen 45-0, and Cedaredge 10-0 to get their 12-game win streak. Delta has 3 more games on the schedule and will play Rifle on 9/30, Montezuma-Cortez on 10/3, and Aspen on 10/5. Stat leaders for the Panthers are Julez Sandoval with 4 home runs and a 36 RBI, Tatem Miller with 32 stolen bases, 38 runs, and 37 hits.
#6 Sterling
Sterling has a 13-6-1 overall record and are 5-4 which puts them in 6th in the Patriot League. The Tigers were able to beat Limon 13-1, but fell to Berthoud 13-2. They have three games left this week and will plat Platte Valley on 9/30, Timnath on 10/3, and University on 10/5.
#7 Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson is sitting 1st in the Denver Prep League and are 9-0 in league play and 15-2 overall. The Spartans were able to beat Jefferson 17-0, Mountain Range 13-9, and Denver East 17-2, but fell to Discovery Canyon 0-10. With only 5 games left on the schedule, Thomas Jefferson will face D’Evelyn on 10/3, Denver South 10/4, Kennedy on 10/5, and Sierra on 10/6. Stat leaders are Maya Cordova and Eva Sanchez with 2 home runs, Layla Colonna with 23 stolen bases and 38 hits, Mikayla Macias with a 2.04 ERA, and Sophia Sandoval with a 27 RBI.
#8 The Academy
The Wildcats are 16-4 overall with a 6-0 league record and are 1st in the Denver Metro. They fell to Eaton 1-15, and Strasburg 9-12, and beat Denver East 15-0 and Peak to Peak 12-1. They have three games left and will play Platte Valley on 10/2, Forge Christian on 10/3 and Jefferson Academy 10/6. Stat leaders are Isabella Bruntz and Mackenzie Pearson with 4 home runs, Ava Fladung with 11 stolen bases, Isabella Bruntz with a 2.78 ERA and a 39 RBI, and Victoria Pearson with 42 runs and 35 hits.
#9 Wiley
Wiley is 2nd in the Tri-Peaks league with a 5-1 in league play and are 12-3 overall. The panthers fell to Lamar last week 5-6 but were able to bounce back and beat James Irwin on 9/28.With only four games left in the regular season, Wiley will face Burlington on 9/30 in a double header, Aamosa on 10/5 and Dolores Huerta Prep on 10/7. Stat leaders for the Panthers are Zoe Martinez with 1 home run, 7 stolen bases, Anna Wollert with a 2.95 ERA and a 18 RBI, Dixie Bitner with 22 runs, and Lexi Shotton with 18 hits.
#10 Rocky Ford
The Meloneers are 3rd in the Tri Peaks league with a 4-1 league record and 12-8 overall. They were able to win both of their games this last week against Dolores Huerta Prep 17-0 and Florence 18-2. With only three games left in the regular season, Rocky Ford will take on Alamosa on 10/2, Woodland Park on 10/3 and Lamar on 10/5. Stat leaders for the team are Leticia Garcia with 3 home runs, a 30 RBI and a 3.73 ERA, Deja Warman with 18 stolen bases and 35 runs, and Kamil Lovato with 33 hits.
Lamar
Lamar has an overall record on 15-6 and a 6-1 league record. This last week they defeated Alamosa 4-2, and Wiley 65, but lost to La Junta 5-4. This all keeps them 1st in the Tri Peaks League. The Thunder have2 games left this week against Brush on 10/3 and Rocky Ford on 10/5. Top performers from Lamar are Delorin Bellomy with 3 home runs, 34 hits, a 29 RBI, and 15 stolen bases, Mariah Sigala with a 1.67 ERA, and Annabelle Morales with 24 runs.
Fort Lupton
The Bluedevils are 14-5-1 overall and 5-0 in league play and are currently sitting 1st in the Frontier league. They were able to defeat Middle Park 21-0 and Platte Canyon 9-0, but lost to Longmont 15-4. They will face Arvada on 9/29, and will play in a league tournament 10/3 and 10/5 to determine any final standings going into the playoffs.

Jefferson Academy
Sitting number 29 in the CHSSA Seeding Index, Jefferson Academy is 11-10 overall and are 2-4 in league play. They are currently in 4th in the Denver Metro league after defeating Platte Canyon 29-14 and Aurora Central 23-22 and falling to Overland 18-2 and Peak to Peak 20-4. They will play Peak to Peak again on 10/3 and The Academy on 10/6. They will be looking for at least one win to keep their playoff hopes alive. Stat leaders for the Jaguars are Elasah Shupe and Shaelee Torres with 1 home run, Shealee Tores with 13 stolen bases, 24 runs and 26 hits, and Ellie Arnold with a 16 RBI.
The Classical Academy
The Titans are currently in 4th in the CSML North League with a 1-4 league record and a 4-8 overall record. They were able to capture a win this last week against James Irwin 19-3 after a 6 game loss streak. They will be looking to get more wins this week against Falcon on 9/29, Sand Creek on 9/30, Woodlad Park on 10/2, Elizabeth on 10/3 and Sand Creek on 10/5. The Classical Academy is currently sitting at number 30 and would make it into the playoffs if regular season games ended now. They will need to see more wins this week if they wish to secure their playoff spot. Leaders for the Titans are Veronica Santos with 1 home run, Ada Wilson with 5 stolen bases, 19 hits, a 14 RBI and a 5.32 ERA, and Adelynn Miller with 15 runs.
Cedaredge
At number 31 in the CHSSA Seeding Index and 5th in the Western Slope League, Cedaredge is 3-6 in league play and 5-12 overall. They suffered two losses this last week to Eagle Valley 7-18 and Delta 0-10, but will be looking to bounce back to secure their playoff spot this week against Grand Junction on 9/30, Gunnison on 10/3, and Meeker in a double header in 10/7. Stat leaders for the Bruins are Elizabeth Galley with 2 home runs and a 21 RBI, Kiere Stroh with 8 stolen bases, Tia Homedew with 23 runs, and Jewel Laliberte with 27 hits.
Holyoke
The Dragons are currently 3rd in the Lower Platte League, with a 2-2 league record and 10-11 overall. According to the CHSSA Seeding Index, Holyoke is the number 32 team, meaning they would be the last team to make it to regionals. They lost last week to Fort Lupton 9-5, and 17-0, Limon 17-14, and 28-10, but were able to win against Chase County 16-15 and 12-0. They will be play Wray/Yuma in a double header on 9/30, where any loss could put the Dragons at risk of not making it to regionals. Leaders for Holyoke are Nicole Schlachter, Fallon Bamford and Elyce Sisseck with 1 home run, Samantha Seger 47 with 47 stolen bases 36 runs and 37 hits, and Jeidy Villalobos with a 20 RBI.
Basalt
Sitting in 6th in the Western Slope League, Baslt has a 1-5 league record and are 4-8 overall. If all regular season games ended after yesterday, The Longhorns would be the first team to miss the playoffs. Last week, Basalt lost to Durango 1-12 and 4-20, Meeker 4-20 and 7-19, but beat Battle Mountain 28-27. The Longhorns still have a chance to make it into the playoffs as they have 8 games left against Montrose on 9/30, in a double header, Eagle Valley on 10/2, Battle Mountain on 10/2, Montezuma-Cortez in a double header on 10/5, and Gunnison in a double header on 10/7. Stat leaders for the team are Kyra Reeds with 7 stolen bases, Mia Sandoval with 11 runs, and Zaida Leslie with 13 hits and a 10 RBI.
Arvada
Sitting 34th in the CHSSA Seeding Index, Arvada would be the second team to miss the playoffs if the season ended now. They are 4th in the Frontier league,with a 2-2 league record and 6-9 overall. The Bulldogs lost to Denver North 5-20 but were able to beat Alameda 20-6. They have three games this week against Fort Lupton on 9/29, Middle Park on 9/30 and Englewood on 9/30, before they play in a league tournament on 10/3 and 10/5 where the Bulldogs have a shot to play to get into the playoffs. Top players for Arvada are Amiah Picaso with 4 home runs, 24 runs, a 34 RBI and 16 stolen bases, and Alyssa Moreno with 24 hits.
