
Class 2A Volleyball Weekly Preview-Week 8 by Tayler Rocha
We continue to use the CHSAA Seeding Index to preview the top 12 teams. This week we also look at the bubble teams who are fighting to get into regionals at the end. Good Luck to all teams this week.

#1 Wiggins
Currently 3rd in the Lower Platte league, Wiggins has a 4-1 league record, and are 12-2 overall. Their single league loss came this week from Merino, who beat Wiggins 0-3. However, they were able to beat Yuma 3-0. The Tigers will be looking to move their way up the league ranks and maintain their 1st place CHSSA seeding index spot this week against Holyoke on 10/6 and Briggsdale on 10/10. Top player for the Tigers are Taelynn Epple with 27 total blocks, Tyleigh Fehseke with 27 serving aces and 206 kills., and Kennedy Kerr with 126 digs, and 426 assists.
#2 Rye
1st in the Santa Fe league, Rye has a perfect league record at 10-0 and are 14-1 overall. This last week, The thunderbolts defeated Hoehne 3-0. This week they will play Swallows Charter on 10/10 and Fowler on 10/12 in league play and will try to remain 1st in their league. Stat leaders for Rye are Isabella Bond with 51 total blocks, Jaklyn Newitt with 64 serving aces and 224 assists, Desiree Ruiz with 257 digs, and Jordan Holgerson with 113 kills.
#3 Sedgwick County
With a 12-3 overall record, and 2-1 in league play, the Cougars are currently in 4th place in the Lower Platte league. They went perfect this week against Perkins County, Caliche, and Wray and beat them all 3-0. They will be looking to continue their success this week against Merino on 10/7. Top performers for the Cougars are Abigail Dille with 43 total blocks, Keyana Ehnes with 21 serving aces, Lainee Nein with 233 digs and 194 kills, and Ryen Carlson with 288 assists.
#4 Mancos
The leaders in the San Juan Basin League, Mancos is 6-0 in league play and 12-1 overall. In league play this week, they defeated Dolores 3-0 and Telluride 3-2. They will be playing 3 league games this week against Ignacio on 10/5 and Ridgway in a double header on 10/7. They will be looking to win these games to keep their 1st place status in league. Top players for the Blue Jays are Halie Higgins with 47 total blocks, Aysia Mathews with 38 aces and 315 assists, Teya Yeomans with 160 digs and 216 kills.
#4 Vail Christian
Sitting in 1st place in the Western Slope League, Vail Christian are 7-0 in league play and are 9-2 overall. They maintained their perfect league record last week when they defeated Plateau Valley 3-1. They will be looking to maintain their perfect league record this week against Hayden on 10/6 and Soroco on 10/10. Stat leaders for the Saints are Logan Nobrega with 25 serving aces and 201 assists, Hannah Leonard with 19 total blocks, Jessie Allen with 185 digs, and Mary McClarrinon with 95 kills.
#6 Front Range Christian
With a 7-0 league record, and 17-2 overall record, Front Range Christian is 1st in the Mile High League. This last week in league play, the Falcons defeated Highlands and Heritage Christian 3-0. They will need to beat Gilpin County on 10/10 to keep their place in the league. Leaders for Front Range Christian are Skyla Anglada with 39 total blocks, Allie Howard with 38 serving aces, Hannah Keyfauver with 348 digs, Emma Bolz with 476 assists, and Eadlin Hoff with 163 kills.
#7 Plateau Valley
With a 8-2 league record and 13-2 overall, the Cowboys are currently sitting 3rd in the Western Slope league. Plateau Valley received one of their league losses from Vail Christian 1-3 but were able to beat De Beque 3-1 and Grand Valley 3-0. To keep their spot in league, or potentially move up, they will need to beat Soroco on 10/6. Top players from the Cowboys are Meloni Miller with 18 total blocks, 339 assists and 61 serving aces, Sierra Piland with 134 digs, and Emaline Ealey with 170 kills.
#8 Lake County
The Panthers are still undefeated this season with a 16-0 overall record, 9-0 in league play, and are still 1st in the Frontier League. They played Sheridan and Arvada this last week in league games, and beat them both 3-0. They will be playing Bennett on 10/6 and Bruce Randolph on 10/10 in league games and will try to keep their perfect record intact. Stat leaders for Lake County are Jaycee Windorski with 25 total blocks and 297 kills, Kelsea Roeder with 56 serving aces and 98 digs, and Maggie Roeder with 416 assists.
#9 Fowler
With a 8-2 league record, and 11-4 overall, the Grizzlies are 2ns in the Santa Fe League. With a busy week of play, Fowler was able to beat Holly, Limon, Denver Christian, and Swallows Charter 3-0, but fell to Lamar 3-0. They will be looking to continue their success this week with a single game this week against Walsenburg on 10/5. Stat Leaders for the Grizzlies are Madison Porto with 16 total blocks, Kory Pieper with 38 serving aces, Randi Maestas with 102 digs, Syriah Alvarez with 198 assists and Lawren Johnson with 94 kills.
#10 Hoehne
Sitting 3rd in the Santa Fe League, the Farmers are 6-2 in league play and 10-6 overall. They took their second league loss this last week against Rye 0-3. They will be looking to come back and maintain their league place this week against Swallows Charter on 10.5 and Walsenburg on 10/10. Leaders for the team are Kaylah Crosson with 32 total blocks, Ellegra Gutierrez with 43 serving aces, Phoenix SanRoman with 156 digs and 247 assists, and Janae Ramos with 178 kills.
Strasburg
In 1st place in the Union Pacific League, Strasburd is 3-0 in league play and are 10-5 overall. They were able to defeat Frontier Academy this week 3-0, and will be resting up this week to be able to finish the season strong when they resume play on 10/12. Top Player for Strasburg are Natalie Damron with 36 total blocks, 147 digs, 313 assists and 159 kills, and Peighton Marrero with 31 serving aces.
Meeker
Meeker has a 10-5 overall record, are 9-1 in league play and are currently 2nd in the Western Slope League. Last week they defeated Cedaredge 3-1 and Caprock Academy 3-0. They will be looking for continued success this week against West Grand on 10/5 and Little Snake River on 10/10. Leaders for the Cowboys are Reese Clatterbaugh with 40 total blocks and 37 serving aces, Taylor Garcia with 500 digs, Graycee Cravens 244 assists, and Ainsley Selle with 139 kills.
Bubble Teams
36 teams get into regionals, so we will be looking at the teams ranked 34-38 who are on the bubble of making it to the playoffs.
Peyton
Peyton is currently sitting 4th in the Black Forest League with a 1-1 league record and 6-8 record overall. They are currently on a two game loss, most recently to Calhan 0-3, but will be looking to a league win this week against Dolores Huerta Prep on 10/5. This win will be important for the Panthers to remain in the regional hunt. Stat leaders for Peyton are Sammie Nickell with 14 total blocks, Abbie Nickell with 26 serving aces and 337 assists, Tahjyanna McFall with 242 digs, and Savannah Kelley with 133 kills.
Golden View Classical Academy
The Sentinels are currently 1st in the Foothills league with a 3-0 league record and are 9-4 overall. They are currently the 35th team in the CHSSA seeding index and would be the second to last team to make it into the regional bubble. Golden View was able to beat Thomas MacLaren School 3-1 and Poudre Community academy 3-0 this week but fell to Belleview Christian 1-3. The Sentinels will be looking for wins to keep their playoff spot secured this week against Windsor Charter Academy on 10/6.Leaders for the team are Reese Urbas with 11 total blocks, Ellie Smith with 6 serving aces, 13 digs, and 14 kills, and Maggie Doran with 34 assists.
Clear Creek
If no more regular season games were played, Clear Creek, with a 3-3 league record, a 6-5 overall record, and sitting 7th in the Mile High League, would be the last team into the regionals bubble. The Golddiggers were able to find some success this week against Union Colony and Platte Canyon, beating them both 3-0, but fell to Gilpin County 0-3. To keep themselves in the playoff bubble, Clear creek will be looking for wins against Lyons on 10/5, Bishop Machebeuf on 10/9, and Dayspring Christian on 10/10. Leaders for the Golddiggers are Kambrey Martin with 18 total blocks, Elliot Dunbar with 33 serving aces, Trinity Cade with 140 digs and 96 kills, and Kiera Ginter with 109 assists.
Grand Valley
The first team currently outside of the regionals bubble is Grand Valley. With a 4-5 league record and 5-9 overall, they are currently 7th in the Western Slope league and number 37 in the CHSSA Seeding index. They lost this last week to Rangely and Plateau Valley 0-3, but will be looking to finish the season strong and find success against De Beque on 10/11. Stat Leaders for the Cardinals are Chloe Gronewoller with 64 total blocks, Jaycee Pittman with 33 serving aces and 91 kills, Jocelyn Barragan with 248 digs, and Kaylae Medina with 140 assists.
Swallows Charter Academy
Sitting 7th the Santa Fe League, with a 3-7 league record and 8-9 overall, the Spartans would be the 2nd team out of the regional bubble if no more games were played. They were able to beat Colorado Springs School 3-0 and Fountain Valley 3-2 this last week but fell to Fowler 0-3. SCA will need to beat Hoehne on 10/5 and Rye on 10/10 to help keep their playoff hopes alive. They will also be playing Calhan on 10/11 in a non-league game, were a win could help their RPI. Top Players for the Spartans are Faith Derudder with 46 total blocks, Sydnee Borden with 41 serving aces and 158 assists, Emma Storm with 216 digs, and Brooklyn Kleven with 89 kills.
