Class 2A Volleyball Regional Preview

A field of 36 teams in Class 2A will be grouped into 12 regionals and by the end of play on Saturday only a dozen will be left remaining. Many teams will be in the hunt for one of the 12 elusive berths to the State Tournament. Sedgwick County is your two time defending State Champions and they enter as the #3 overall seed.

Region 1

Wiggins
Wiggins comes in as the number one seed overall after a 19-4 overall record, 7-1 in league play and 2nd in the Lower Platte League. The tigers will be facing Grand Valley and Denver Christian on 11/4 and will be expected to win and advance. Leaders for the season who will be looked to, to lead the tigers to victory this week are Tealynn Epple with 53 total blocks, Riley Hunt with 37 serving aces, Kennedy Kerr with 227 digs, and 748 assists, and Tyleigh Fehseke with 342 kills.

Denver Christian
The Thunder come into the playoffs after a 13-10 season, going 7-4 in league play and finishing 5th in the Mile High League. They will be facing Grand Valley and Wiggins on 11/4 to try to advance to the next round of the play-offs. Stat leaders in the regular season for Denver Christian are Quin Covey with 30 total blocks, Ava Vande Griend with 59 serving aces and 222 kills., Erika Middel with 432 digs, and Noelani Book with 436 assists.

Grand Valley
Grand Valley ended their regular season with a 9-11 overall record, 8-6 in league play and 7th in the Western Slope League. They will be playing Wiggins and Denver Christian on 11/4 and will need to upset both teams if they want to make it to state. Top players for the season for the Cardinals are Chloe Gronewoller with 109 total blocks, Jaycee Pittman with 42 serving aces and 133 kills, Jocelyn Barragan with 324 digs, and Kaylae Medina with 222 assists.

Region 2

Rye
Rye ends their regular season with a 19-2 overall record, 12-1 in league and finished 1st in the Santa Fe league. They will be looking to continue their current 4 game win streak against Telluride and Holyoke on 11/4 to continue their season into the state tournament. Top players so far this season for the Thunderbolts are Isabella Bond with 68 total blocks, Jaklyn Newitt with 76 serving aces and 320 assists, and Desiree Ruiz with 349 digs.

Holyoke
The Dragons made it through their season with a 10-13 overall record, going 3-4 in league play and finishing 6th in the Lower Platte League. They will be facing Rye and Telluride in region 2 on 11/4 to try to make it to the state tournament. Top players for the Dragons this season are Ellie Kleve with 67  total blocks, Audrey  Talavera with 50 serving aces, 516 digs, and 338 assists, and Anessa Colglazier with 301 kills.

Telluride
Telluride ends their regular season with a 10-11 overall record, 6-5 in league play and 4th in the San Juan Basin League. The Miners will need to upset Rye and Holyoke to get into the state tournament and will be looking to do so on 11/4. Stat leaders for Telluride for regular season play are Delia Noel with 22 total blocks and 166 kills, Bryn Geiger with 48 serving aces and 191 digs, and Lillyann Mahoney with 196 assists.

Region 3

Sedgwick County
As the number 3 team overall, Sedwick County comes into regionals with a 16-6 overall record, 5-3 in league play and are 4th in the Lower Platte League. The Cougars will be looking to bounce back from their loss to Sterling last week and will face Heritage Christian and Buena Vista on 11/4 to make it to the state tournament. Top players for the cougars in the regular season are Abigail Dillie with 64 total blocks, Keyana Ehnes with 47 serving aces, Lainee Nein with 362 digs and 279 kills, and Ryen Carlson with 430 assists.

Buena Vista
Buena Vista enters region 3 with a 14-9 overall record, 5-2 in league play and 2nd in the Southern Peaks league. The demons will be looking to defeat Heritage Christian and Sedwick County to make it into the state tournament. Stat leaders for the regular season that will help lead the way are Daisy Lubbers with 47 total blocks, Mindy Griss with 33 serving aces, Hannah Wingo with 229 digs, Audrey Johnson with 337 assists, and Madeline Litvay with 221 kills.

Heritage Christian
Heritage Christian comes into regionals with an 11-12 overall record, 5-6 in league play and ended 6th in the Mile High League. They will need to upset both Sedwick County and Buena Vista if they want to continue their post-season run. Top players for the Eagles in the regular season were Kristin Osborne with 23 total blocks and 525 assists, Annabelle Loucks with 80 serving aces and 221 kills, and Abby Leveillee with 224 digs.

Region 4

Front Range Christian
The Falcons host region 4 after a 21-2 regular season record, 10-0 in league play and 1st in the Mile High League. They are currently on a 13 game win streak that they will be looking to continue and carry through the state tournament. They will be facing St. Mary’s and Sanford on 11/4 to try to get their streak to 15 games. This season, top players for Front Range Christian are Lucy Krum with 55 total blocks, Allie Howard with 45 serving aces, Hannah Keyfauver with 432 digs, Emma Bolz with 616 assists, and Eadlin Hoff with 205 kills.

Sanford
Sanford enters regionals with a 12-10 overall record, 4-3 in league play and finished 5th in the Southern Peaks league. The Mustangs will be looking to bounce back from their loss to Rye this weekend when they face Front Range Christian and St. Mary’s on 11/4. Stat leaders for the Mustangs are Riley Willet with 33 total blocks, Keylee Anderson with 37 serving aces, Brooklynn Reynolds with 411 digs, Avery Koenig with 304 assists, and Shasta Bond with 147 kills.

St. Mary’s
St. Mary’s ends their regular season with a 12-11 overall record, 6-6 in league play and 6th in the Tri-Peaks league. They will face Front Range Christian and Sanford to try to pull the upset and enter the State tournament. Top players for the Pirates are Maeve Salveson with 22 total blocks and 151 kills, Leah Flanigan with 47 serving aces and 235 assists, and Laurel Barton with 319 digs.

Region 5

Mancos
Mancos enters regionals with a 21-2 overall record, 11-0 in league play and finished 1st in the San Juan Basin. The Bluejays lost to Elizabeth that snapped an 11 game win streak and will be looking to bounce back and beat Sargent and Olathe on 11/4. Top players from Mancos are Haylie Higgins with 61 total blocks, Aysia Mathews with 51 serving aces and 460 assists, and Teya Yeomans with 226 digs and 332 kills.

Sargent
Sargent ends their regular season with a 16-7 overall record, 6-1 in league play and ended 1st in the Southern Peaks League. They will be looking to defeat Mancos and Olathe to continue their season into the state tournament. Stat leaders from the Farmers are Makayla Brown with 59 total blocks, 48 serving aces and 215 kills, and Reese Anderson with 270 digs, and 585 assists.

Olathe
Olathe comes into regionals with an 11-10 overall record, 9-5 in league play and ended 5th in the Western Slope league. The Pirates will be looking to upset Sargent and Mancos to try to make it into the state tournament. Stat leaders for Olathe are Sieanna McCall with 67 total blocks, Kiandra Liles with 52 serving aces and 336 assists, and Sadie Shea with 389 digs and 185 kills.

Region 6

Plateau Valley
Plateau Valley hosts region 6 after a 21-2 overall record, 12-2 in league play and finished 3rd in the Western Slope League. The Cowboys are currently on a 10 game winning streak and will be looking to continue their streak against Del Norte and Loveland Classical on 11/4 to make it into the state tournament. Top players for Plateau Valley are Meloni Miller with 28 total blocks, 83 serving aces, and 581 assists, Sierra Piland with 207 digs, and Emaline Ealey with 267 kills.

Loveland Classical
The Lions end their regular season with am 18-5 overall record, 6-2 in league play and ended 3rd in the Foothills League. They will be looking to regain their footing after their loss to Windsor Charter Academy and beat Del Norte and Plateau Valley. Stat leaders for the Lions are Jayna Erickson with 31 total blocks and 178 kills, Sophie Archuleta with 69 serving aces and 179 digs, and Keira Doan with 314 assists.

Del Norte
Del Norte enters regionals with a 10-12 overall record, 5-2 in league play and finished 3rd in the Southern Peaks league. They will be looking to upset Plateau Valley and Loveland Classical to make it into the state tournament. The tigers top players for the regular season were Baylie Laymon with 27 total blocks, Kailee Gallegos with 53 serving aces and 488 assists, Kaitlyn Velasquez with 257 digs, and Layleigh Haynie with 165 kills.

Region 7

Hoehne
Hoehne comes into the post-season with a 17-6 overall record, 11-2 in league play and ended 2nd in the Santa Fe League. The Farmers are currently on a 7 game win streak and will be looking to continue their wins against Burlington and Yuma to on 11/4 to make it to the state tournament. Stat leaders from Hoehne are Kaylah Crosson with 52 total blocks, Ellegra Gutierrez with 68 serving aces and 232 digs, Phoenix SanRoman with 379 assists, and Janae Ramos with 259 kills.

Yuma
Yuma ends their regular season with a 12-10 overall record, 4-4 in the league play and finished 5th in the Lower Platte League. They will face Burlington and Hoehne where they will be looking to beat them and advance into the state tournament. Top players in the regular season for Yuma, are Caddis Robinson with 49 total blocks, 256 digs and 229 kills, Bailey Nighswonger with 27 serving aces, and Emma Rayl with 290 assists.

Burlington
Burlington enters regionals with a 10-13 overall record, 2-5 in league play and finished 7th in the Union Pacific league. They will be looking for the upset against Hoehne and Yuma to make it into the state tournament. Top players for Burlington this season are Trinitee Holmes with 64 total blocks and 256 kills, Azalia Fuentes with 45 serving aces, Kirsten Burghart with 314 digs, and Reagan Simpson with 612 assists.

Region 8

Strasburg
Strasburg hosts region 8 after a 17-6 season, 5-1 league record and finishing 2nd in the Union Pacific League. They will face Wray and Rangely where the winner will advance and play in the state tournament. Top players for Strasburg are Natalie Damron with 61 total blocks, 236 kills, and 104 digs, and Peighton Marrero with 51 serving aces and 476 assists.

Rangely
Rangely ends their regular season with a 15-7 overall record, are 11-4 in league play and finished 4th in the Western Slope League.  They will be looking to advance into the state tournament after they face Strasburg and Wray on 11/4. Stat leaders for the Panthers are Aubrianna Tapia with 41 total blocks, Kaitlyn Cox with 67 serving aces and 299 assists, Emma Smith with 269 digs, and Annika Cantrell with 208 kills.

Wray
Wray enters the post-season after finishing the season 9-14 overall, 2-6 in league play, and 7th in the Lower Platte League. They will be looking to pull the upset against Strasburg and Rangely to advance into the state tournament. Leading the Eagles in the season were Caroline Weber with 29 total blocks, Dori Saffer with 45 serving aces, 310 digs, 301 assists, and 206 kills.

Region 9

Vail Christian
The Saints come into regionals as the hosts on region 9 after a 17-4 overall season, 14-0 in league play and finishing 1st in the Western Slope League. The Saints are currently on a 3 game winning streak and will be looking to defeat Ignacio and Byers to advance to the state tournament. Top players for Vail Christian are Hannah Leonard with 32 total blocks, Logan Nobrega with 45 serving aces and 397 assists, Jessie Allen with 352 digs, and Mary McClarrinon with 178 kills.

Ignacio
Ignacio enters regionals after a 17-6 overall record this season, 8-3 in league play and finished 3rd in the San Juan Basin. They will be facing Vail Christian and Byers where the winner will advance in the post-season. Leaders for Ignacio are Solymar Cosio with 86 total blocks and 193 kills, Kacey Brown with 64 serving aces, Ollyvia Howe with 249 digs, and Kelly Sirios with 478 assists.

Byers
Byers finished their regular season with a 10-13 overall record, 4-3 in league play and finished 4th in the Union Pacific League. They will be looking for the upset against Vail Christian and Ignacio to advance into the state tournament. Top players for the Bulldogs are Hope Linnebur with 55 total blocks and 183 kills, Sophie Linnebur with 55 serving aces, and Annette Earl with 321 digs, and 318 assists.

Region 10

Lake County
Lake County hosts their region after a 22-1 overall record, going 14-1 in league play and finished 1st in the Frontier league. They will be playing Meeker and Trinidad on 11/4 where the winner will advance to the state tournament. Top players for the Panthers are Jaycee Windorski with 44 total blocks and 479 kills, Kelsea Roeder with 75 serving aces and 168 digs, and Maggie Roeder with 619 assists.

Meeker
Meeker comes into regionals with a 14-9 overall record, 12-2 in league play and finished 2nd in the Western Slope league. They will be playing Trinidad and Lake County to try to win and make it into the state tournament. Stat leaders for Meeker are Reese Clatterbaugh with 54 total blocks and 48 serving aces, Taylor Garcia with 706 digs, Ellie Hossack with 347 assists, and Ainsley Selle with 213 kills.

Trinidad
The Miners end their regular season with a 14-7 overall record, 4-3 in league play and they finished 4th in the Southern Peaks league. They will be looking to beat Lake County and Meeker in order to make it into the state tournament. Leaders for Trinidad are Cydey Vigil with 45 total blocks, Monse Viera-Flores with 97 serving aces and 128 kills,  Jesse Gegelman with 177 digs, and Layla Maes with 144 assists.

Region 11

Calhan
Calhan finished their season with a 21-2 overall record, 5-0 in league play, and they finished 1st in the Black Forest league. They will play Swink and Dayspring Christian on 11/4 to advance to the state tournament if they win. Calhan is on a 15 game win streak which is led by some of the teams top players. These players are Haley Gerhart with 30 total blocks, Kailey Peterson with 44 serving aces 186 assists, and 195 kills, and Katelyn Lindgren with 352 digs.

Swink
Swink ends their regular season with a 17-6 overall record are 10-6 in league play and finished 4th in the Santa Fe League. They will be looking to keep their 6 game win streak alive when they face Calhan and Dayspring Christian. Stat leaders for Swink are Taylor Mendenhall with 60 total blocks and 245 kills, Larriana Taggart with 31 serving aces and 347 digs,  and Briana McElroy with 332 assists.

Dayspring Christian Academy
Dayspring Christian comes into regionals with a 12-11 overall record, 9-2 in league play and finished 3rd in the Mile High League. They will be looking to continue their 6 game winning streak and defeat Swink and Calhan to go to the state tournament. State leaders for the Eagles are Nika Gomez with 43 total blocks a d 145 kills, Bella Flores with 40 serving aces, and Emmery Bonnell with 330 digs and 389 assists.

Region 12

Fowler
Flower hosts their region after a 16-7 overall record, 10-3 in league play and finishing 3rd in the Santa Fe League. They are on a 3 game win streak that they hope to continue against Lyons and Limon to make it into the state tournament. Top players for the Grizzlies are Lawren Johnson with 31 total blocks and 249 kills, Kory Pieper with 66 serving aces, Kory Pieper with 244 digs, and Syriah Alvarez with 512 assists.

Lyons
Lyons ends their regular season with an 18-5 overall record, 10-1 in league play and finished 2nd in the Mile High league. They are also on a 3 game winning streak that they will try to maintain to make it into the state tournament. Stat leaders for the Lions are Michaela Coleman with 88 total blocks, Emma Rooney with 41 serving aces, Sienna Reed with 290 digs, Scarlett Voss with 508 assists, and Gemma Powell with 168 kills.

Limon
The Badgers enter regional play after ending their regular season with a 10-13 overall record, going 5-3 in league play and finishing 3rd in the Union Pacific League. They will be looking to get revenge against Fowler, who was their last loss, this weekend and pull the upset to make it into the state tournament. Helping to lead the way will be the stat leaders from the regular season who are Teal Schmidt with 54 total blocks and 40 serving aces, Katelyn Tacha who has 361 digs and 513 assists, and Jentri Marx with 273 kills.
