Class 2A Boys Basketball District Predictions
Basketball games kicked off November 27th. We dive into each District and predict the winner of each district. Remember for Class 2A you now must just be ranked inside the top 32 of the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index to make it to Regionals or win your District. District winners also host if they are ranked inside the top 16 of the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index. This will be a quick article but expect later in December a full breakdown.

District 1
1. Sanford
2. Monte Vista
3. Cotopaxi
4. Del Norte
5. Custer County
6. Center
7. Sargent
8. Trinidad
9. South Park
District 1 will be a combination of the Southern Peaks League and West Central League. Remember all District Tournaments will be seeded by the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index unless a different seeding criteria is agreed upon. Winning your district is the one way to guarantee your berth into the state tournament. Sanford is my pick to win the District 1 tournament. Sanford lose some key pieces from last years team but have plenty of leadership back. Some younger players must step up this season but look for Sanford to be the favorite. Monte Vista & Cotopaxi I believe are the contenders this season. Both should also push for Regional spots as well. Del Norte is my dark horse pick. They lose a huge part of their team but return some younger players who could push them into a regional spot. Custer County, Center, and Sargent are a bit more unknow this season as many of them lose key seniors.

2. Merino
3. Holyoke
4. Akron
5. Sedgwick County
6. Wiggins
7. Haxtun
8. Caliche
District 2 will be the Class 2A schools from the Lower Platte League. Remember all District Tournaments will be seeded by the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index unless a different seeding criteria is agreed upon. Winning your district is the one way to guarantee your berth into the state tournament. District 2 could be one of the more competitive districts with 6 possibly 7 teams pushing for a regional spot. Most teams are losing key pieces so leadership will be key. Wray is my pick to winning the District 2 Tournament. Wray lose their starting guards but return their two bigs to be leaders. Wray will look for some depth to step up at the guard position but don’t expect a huge drop off in talent. Merino and Holyoke I believe are the main contenders for the league crown. I think both should make regionals, but the question is can they push for the district crown. Akron, Sedgwick County, and Haxtun I think will all battle for a regional spot. Sedgwick County is my dark horse pick. They return their entire roster from last season but did they improve enough this offseason to push into the top of the District.

District 3 is the Class 2A part of the San Juan League. Remember all District Tournaments will be seeded by the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index unless a different seeding criteria is agreed upon. Winning your district is the one way to guarantee your berth into the state tournament. I believe District 3 is a two-horse race for the District crown between Mancos and Telluride. Mancos is my pick to win the District 3 tournament. Mancos returns their entire roster from last season and will have some momentum after winning the 8-Man State Title. Telluride is the main challenger. Telluride also returns a good chunk of last years team including 4 of their 5 top scorers. Telluride should push for regionals and build off last years success. Dolores is my dark horse pick. They did not put stats in for last season but should improve off their 2-18 record.

Regional Contenders: Mancos, Telluride

Remember all District Tournaments will be seeded by the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index unless a different seeding criteria is agreed upon. Winning your district is the one way to guarantee your berth into the state tournament. My pick to win the District 4 tournament is Heritage Christian. Heritage Christian returns 4 of their top 5 scorers and they lose just 2 seniors. Loveland Classical I believe is the main challenger from District 4. Loveland Classical returns their top 6 scorers from a season ago. Union, Colony Prep, Nederland, Poudre Community will try and get in the mix and possibly push for a regional spot. Union Colony Prep is my dark horse pick. They lose their top two scorers but have some talent coming back to try and push for a regional spot.

District 5 will be the Class 2A Western Slope League. Remember all District Tournaments will be seeded by the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index unless a different seeding criteria is agreed upon. Winning your district is the one way to guarantee your berth into the state tournament. My pick to win the District 5 tournament is Plateau Valley. Plateau Valley will be the heavy favorite to win the district 5 tournament and return their entire roster from last season state tournament team. Vail Christian and Hayden appear to be the main challengers for the league crown. Both teams return key starters, but Hayden will return their top scorers from last season. My dark horse pick is Vail Mountain. They lose some key pieces from last years team but have consistently had competitive teams.
My predictions for District 5

Dark Horse: Vail Mountain
Player of the League: Jack Vig Jr. Plateau Valley

District 6
1. Crowley County
2. Holly
3. Fowler
4. Walsenburg
5. Hoehne
6. Las Animas
7. Swink
8. Swallows Charter
District 6 will be the 2A Santa Fe League. Remember all District Tournaments will be seeded by the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index unless a different seeding criteria is agreed upon. Winning your district is the one way to guarantee your berth into the state tournament. District 6 in my opinion is one of the tougher Districts. They have at least 7 regionals contenders and this will be a battle for the top spots in this District. Tons of great talent returning in this District. Crowley County is my pick to win the District 6 tournament. Crowley County returns their top 5 scorers but will have to have depth on the bench step up this season. Crowley County main challengers will be Holly and Fowler. I think both teams return more than enough talent to push the top team. Las Animas, Hoehne, Walsenburg, and Swink I believe can all push for a regional spot. My dark horse pick is Walsenburg. Walsenburg returns their top 3 scorers from a season ago. They have the talent to push for a top 3 spot and I think could make it to regionals.

District 7
1. Denver Christian
2. Addenbrooke Classical
3. Denver Academy
4. Golden View Classical
5. Gilpin County
6. Front Range Christian
7. Vanguard Classical
District 7 will be a combination of the Confluence, Foothills, and Mile High League. Remember all District Tournaments will be seeded by the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index unless a different seeding criteria is agreed upon. Winning your district is the one way to guarantee your berth into the state tournament. Denver Christian is my pick to win the District 7 Tournament. Denver Christian lose some of their top scorers from last season but have the tradition to push for the top spot in the District. Addenbrooke Classical and Denver Academy I think could challenge Denver Christian for the top spot. Both teams return top scorers and could challenge for the crown. Denver Academy is my dark horse pick. They return their top two scorers but lack the tradition of success and if they can put it all together could win the league.
My predictions for District 7
League Champion: Denver Christian
Regional Contenders: Denver Christian, Addenbrooke Classical, Denver Academy
Dark Horse: Denver Academy

4. Elbert
5. Burlington
6. CS School
7. Evangelical Christian
8. Dolores Huerta
9. Calhan
District 8 is a combination of the Union Pacific League and Black Forest League. Remember all District Tournaments will be seeded by the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index unless a different seeding criteria is agreed upon. Winning your district is the one way to guarantee your berth into the state tournament. I think District 8 will be very tough and I could easily see all 9 teams fighting for berths into the regional tournament. Limon is my pick to win the District 8 Tournament. Limon will have some growing pains but will be loaded for another deep run. Simla Byers, and Elbert I believe will be the main challengers to Limon. They all return plenty of talent and I could see them challenge Limon. Burlington, CS School, and ECA I think will all be regional contenders. Dolores Huerta and Calhan cannot be counted out either as they return their top scorers. My dark horse pick is Elbert. Elbert returns 4 of their top 5 scorers but can they improve enough to challenge for the district crown.
