Class 2A Girls Basketball Breakdowns

Class 2A Girls Basketball District Predictions

Class 2A Girls Basketball District Predictions

Basketball games kicked off November 27th.  We dive into each District and predict the winner of each district.  Remember for Class 2A you now must just be ranked inside the top 32 of the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index to make it to Regionals or win your District.  District winners also host if they are ranked inside the top 16 of the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index.  This will be a quick article but expect later in December a full breakdown.

District 1

1. Sanford

2. Center

3. Monte Vista

4. Sargent

5. Del Norte

6. Trinidad

7. Cotopaxi

8. South Park

9. Custer County

District 1 will be a combination of the Southern Peaks League and West Central League.  Remember all District Tournaments will be seeded by the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index unless a different seeding criteria is agreed upon.  Winning your district is the one way to guarantee your berth into the state tournament.  Sanford is my pick to win the District 1 tournament.  Sanford does lose a pair of key seniors but have solid group of juniors who must step up this season.  Their defense may have to carry them early in the season.  Center, Monte Vista, Sargent, and Del Norte I believe are the main challengers to Sanford.  Center returns the most out of the group mentioned returning 5 of their top 6 scorers.  Sargent will be young this season but showed during Volleyball that they are legit.  Monte Vista and Del Norte lose key pieces but also have key talent back.  Del Norte is my dark horse pick.  Del Norte lose two very good seniors but are always well coached.  Del Norte also plays outstanding defense and force teams to not turn the ball over.

District 2

3.  Akron

4. Wiggins

5. Haxtun

6. Wray

7. Caliche

8. Holyoke

District 2 will be the Class 2A schools from the Lower Platte League.  Remember all District Tournaments will be seeded by the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index unless a different seeding criteria is agreed upon.  Winning your district is the one way to guarantee your berth into the state tournament.  I think we are just going to call District 2 the District of Death.  I fully believe all 8 teams will be regional contenders with possibly all 8 getting in.  This District has a ton of talent and all games should be great games.  Merino is my pick to win the District.  Merino returns their entire roster and were runners up last season falling to Sedgwick County.  Sedgwick County, Akron, and Wiggins I believe are the main challengers to the district crown.  Staying healthy will be important to all three teams and developing depth.  Haxtun, Wray, Caliche, and Holyoke are regional contenders.  Haxtun is my dark horse pick.  Haxtun returns their top 4 scorers and were young last season.  I think they improve enough to push the top 4 teams this season.  As mentioned this district is loaded with top players and picking this order was difficult.

District 3 is the Class 2A part of the San Juan League.  Remember all District Tournaments will be seeded by the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index unless a different seeding criteria is agreed upon.  Winning your district is the one way to guarantee your berth into the state tournament.  Mancos will be the heavy favorite to win the District 3 tournament.  District 3 could possibly get just 1 team into regionals.  Ridgway and Dolores could be teams to possibly push for a regional spot but will need to have improvement this season.  Dolores is my dark horse pick.  They return their top scorer and 4 of their top 5.

My predictions for District 3

District 5

1. Rangely

2. West Grand

3. Soroco

4. Plateau Valley

5. Hayden

6. Vail Christian

District 5 will be the Class 2A Western Slope League.  Remember all District Tournaments will be seeded by the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index unless a different seeding criteria is agreed upon.  Winning your district is the one way to guarantee your berth into the state tournament.  My pick to win the district 5 tournament is Rangely.  Rangely returns nearly their entire roster from last year’s state tournament team.  Rangely will be looking to repeat as district champions.  Soroco, Plateau Valley, West Grand, and Hayden I believe will all be regional contenders and possibly challenge for the district crown.  Soroco is my dark horse pick.  Soroco had a rough season a year ago but return nearly their entire roster including their top 3 scorers.  If this team puts it all together, they should push for the district crown and regionals.

District 6

1. Fowler

2. Hoehne

3.  Holly

4. Swink

5. Swallows Charter

6. Crowley County

7. Las Animas

8. Walsenburg

District 6 will be the 2A Santa Fe League.  Remember all District Tournaments will be seeded by the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index unless a different seeding criteria is agreed upon.  Winning your district is the one way to guarantee your berth into the state tournament.  My pick to win the district 6 tournament is Fowler.  Fowler and Hoehne are the two main contenders, and they will have some great battles for that league crown.  Fowler nearly returns their entire roster as well as Hoehne.  These two are the favorites.  Holly and Swink are a pair of regional contenders that will try and challenge for the top spot.  Swink is my dark horse pick.  Swink had success for Volleyball and should give them some momentum for a young team.

My predictions for District 6

3. Addenbrooke Classical

4. Golden View Classical

5. Vanguard Classic East

6. Front Range Christian (Not sure if they are having a girls team)

District 7 will be a combination of the Confluence, Foothills, and Mile High League.  Remember all District Tournaments will be seeded by the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index unless a different seeding criteria is agreed upon.  Winning your district is the one way to guarantee your berth into the state tournament.  Denver Christian is my pick to win the District 7 Tournament.  Denver Christian returns their top two scorers from last season but they have some depth concerns.  If they put everything together they could push for the state tournament.  Gilpin County and Addenbrooke Classical are the main contenders and regional contenders.  Both have some holes to fill but should be able to challenge for the District Crown.  Addenbrooke Classical is my dark horse pick.  They lose their top scorer but return 3 of their top 5 scorers from last season.

My predictions for District 7

League Champion: Denver Christian

Regional Contenders: Denver Christian, Gilpin County, Addenbrooke Classical

Dark Horse: Addenbrooke Classical

Player of the League: Kamiree Fuller Jr. Denver Christian

District 8

1. Burlington

3. Simla

4. CS School

5. Byers

6. Evangelical Christian

7. Elbert

8. Calhan

9. Dolores Huerta

District 8 is a combination of the Union Pacific League and Black Forest League.  Remember all District Tournaments will be seeded by the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index unless a different seeding criteria is agreed upon.  Winning your district is the one way to guarantee your berth into the state tournament.  I think District 8 will be very tough this season with possibly 6 teams pushing for regional berths.  Burlington is my pick to win the District 8 title.  Burlington return their top talent but lose some senior leadership.  Limon and Simla are the main challengers to Burlington.  Both teams return key pieces as they push for that district crown.  CS School, Byers, and ECA are regional contender.  CS School is my dark horse pick.  CS School return their top two scorers from last season but need depth to take a step forward.

My predictions for District 8
