Wrestling Update by Carlos V
Hey wrestling fans. We have one month left in this season and it has gone by quick. before we know it the season will be done. I got to see some exciting matches this year so far, too many to count.
This past weekend one tournament that stood out was the Mel Smith Invitational held in Florence. This tournament is like the 3A state tournament, with mostly all the top ranked teams in 3A and some top ranked teams from 2A, 4A as well. The team race was close throughout the 2 day tournament. At the end we saw 2nd ranked in 2A Cedaredge take the tea trophy home with 186 points. They had 8 placers. In 2nd we had Brush with 181.5 with a total of 6 placers. 3rd was Eaton and Mullen with 167.5 each. Mullen had a total of 5 placers and Eaton had 6 placers. 4th was Canon city and 5th was Centauri to round out the top 5.
Other tournaments that I saw were good ones were the Wiggins tournament with Northfork winning the tournament with 206.5 points with 9 placers.
This weekend the Northfork tournament should be a very tough tournament, with schhol from 5A,4A,3A and 2A teams in attendance,
The Top of the Rockies held by Centaurus is also this weekend. Alot of top ranked teams from 5a,4a,3a,2a will be in attendance. This is one of the toughest tournaments in the state with teams from Wyoming and Nebraska also in attendance.
