Wrestling Update plus a quick look at Regionals

Hello wrestling fans. It’s been a fast season this year. I can’t believe it regional weekend. How time flies by! Over the past 2 weekends there has been some good tournaments and duals, which I would like to update you on.
On the 26th an 27th or January the Valley Classic was held in Center. This is one of the toughest 2A tournament. 27 Teams were in attendance. Some top team were North Fork Centauri, Center, Buena Vista, Merino, Mancos, Monte Vista, Limon, Fowler. Centauri won the team title with 209 points with 10 placers 3 Champions. 2nd was North Fork with 199.5 points with 9 placers and 1 champion. 3rd was Center with 197 points with 10 placers and 2 Champions. Buena Vista was 4th place Monte Vista was 6th and Fowler was 7th. Some championship matches that caught my attention was at 150lbs where Tripp Duval beat Monte Vista’s Kevin Cisneros a battle of 1 ranked vs 2 ranked in the state. Duval won by pin. At 175 saw Keon Bandy of Limon ranked 3rd defeat 1st ranked Arthur Connelly of Nucla by pin. At 190 saw Cole Dainty-Guilfoyle of Mancos ranked 2nd defeat 3a ranked 1st Josh Polkowske by pin.
It was a very tough tournament and good turn out with fans and teams.
Other tournaments that weekend Butch Melton Invitational held in Ignacio. Cedaredge won the tournament with 201 points with 11 placers and 2 Champions.
This past weekend a lot of teams took a break but also sent some guys to wrestle to get matches before regionals. Some tournaments I saw were the Sierra Grande invite and the Crowley County Invite. The top teams at the Sierra Grande invite were Alamosa JV and Monye Vista. For the Crowley County invite were Pueblo County and County Line.
As for this weekend it’s Regional time. Each Regional is split up with teams around Colorado. Regions are spread out with teams who are usually in the same region will be in different regions. It going to be good wrestling on Friday and Saturday. This to me is where the season begins. It’s ride or die, some seasons end, and some continue. Always remember one match at a time.
Here is a table to Regionals in Class 2A and Class 3A. We will also be posting a regional article later in the week. Remember 4 wrestlers qualify per weight class to State.
