Class 3A Boys Basketball Breakdown

Boys Basketball Class 3A Regional Projections Week 10

Boys Basketball Class 3A Regional Projections Week 10

For my projections I am using the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index.  I am going to be predicting the District Champions and may just give a quick reason as to why I picked each District Champion.  If you are a District Champion ranked in the top 16 of the Seeding Index you will automatically host a regional.  Remember to qualify for Regionals you must be ranked inside the top 32 or win your District.  I also give the 8 teams I think advance to the Elite 8 at the end of the article based on the current projections.

Class 3A

  • District must unanimously agree prior to the season on their own seeding criteria.  If an agreement cannot be met, district Seeding will be done by the CHSAA Seeding & Selection Index (50% Maxpreps & 50% RPI).  Maxpreps and RPI will run through Districts.
  • District Winners (8) advancing to the 32-team state bracket.  District Champions are guaranteed a top 8 (host slot) as long as they are in the top 16 of the CHSAA Seeding & Selection Index after Districts.
  • Remaining 24 teams are filled in by the CHSAA Seeding & Selection Index published after Districts.  Any team moved up to the 1-8 slots if a District winner is not in the top 16, will be true seeded 1-8.
  • Seeding criteria for the 32-team state bracket-CHSAA Seeding & Selection Index published after Districts.  Seed 9-16 are true seeded except to try and avoid league matchups in the FIRST ROUND ONLY.  Teams may be moved one spot up or down.  Teams 17-32 may be moved two spots based upon geography and league/district matchups.
  • First two rounds of the state tournament (Regionals) will be hosted by the top seed in the quadrant of the bracket, over two days. (4-teams total)
  • Teams will not be reseeded prior to the final week-state championship (Final 8).
  • Top 8 teams will advance.  Class 3A Great 8 will play a modified consolation bracket.  Teams losing on Thursday will not advance to Friday.

District Tournament Winners

District Metro/Confluence/Lower Platte: Forge Christian

This is going to be a battle for the District Crown.  Forge Christian, Yuma, and Manual are the top favorites but do not count out Prospect Ridge and Stargate School

District Frontier: Bennett

Bennett won big against Lake County and take over as the team to beat in this District.  Lake County will hope to shock them in the District Tournament.

District IML/SPL: Centauri

Centauri looks to be the favorite but look for Crested Butte and Ignacio to challenge for the district crown.

District Black Forest/Santa Fe: Peyton

Peyton is the favorite but look for Thomas MacLaren and Fountain Valley to challenge them for the district crown.

District Patriot: Strasburg

Strasburg is now the current favorite, but they will have to get by Highland again plus Platte Valley.

District Tri-Peaks: Banning Lewis

One of the tougher Districts in Class 3A.  5 teams are inside the top 20 of the seeding index.  Banning Lewis should be the #1 or #2 seeded depending on how they seed the tournament.  Banning Lewis has wins over Vanguard and Salida and are the favorites heading into the District Tournament.

District Western Slope: Meeker

Meeker is currently the only team inside the top 16 of the seeding index.  Meeker will be challenged by Cedaredge and Roaring Fork both have jumped into the top 30 of the seeding Index.

District Mile High/Foothills: Windsor Charter

Windsor Charter is the early favorite to win this district but look for Machebeuf, SkyView Academy, and Dawson School to challenge for the district crown.
