Class 2A Boys & Girls Basketball Daily Digest-Feb 22nd
Only a handful of districts have games tonight and we breakdown all the top matchups. We will have at least a few District Championship matchups set after tonight. Good Luck to all top teams.
Class 2A Boys Daily Digest
District One (Semifinals hosted by Centauri HS)
#1 Sanford advanced into the semifinals with a 65 to 28 win over #8 Trinidad. Sanford will have the early game in the semifinal as they will face #5 Del Norte. Del Norte advanced into the semifinal with a road upset of #4 Cotopaxi 53 to 51. Sanford and Del Norte squared off last weekend with Sanford defeating Del Norte 74 to 38. Sanford was led by Cash Caldon who poured in 31 points and Del Norte was led by Tytus Atencio who scored 19 points. Sanford as mentioned is a lock for regionals sitting inside the top 8 of the Seeding Index. Del Norte is sitting at #37 and would miss the regional field. I do think once the Maxpreps rankings are updated they could move up another spot or two. Del Norte probably needs to upset Sanford to jump into the top 32 but we will see how things look tomorrow.
The other semifinal will feature #2 Monte Vista against #3 Sargent @8:30pm. Monte Vista advanced to the semifinal with a dominate 55 to 26 win over #7 Center. Sargent advanced to the semifinal with a win over #6 Custer County 45 to 32. Monte Vista faced Sargent on 2/15 with Monte Vista capturing the 35 to 24 win over Sargent. Monte Vista had a big game from Azariah Hurtado who scored 18 points and Sargent was led by Hayden Lester who scored 11 points. Both Monte Vista and Sargent are locks for the regional field. This game could go a long way to improving their own seed.
Semifinals will be played Saturday 2/24 at Centauri High School.
District Two (Semifinals hosted by NJC)
The District Two Semifinals will be held be played on Friday 2/23 at NJC. The Semifinals will be #1 Merino vs #4 Akron @5:30 and #2 Wray vs #3 Holyoke @8:30pm. We will have a more in-depth update posted tomorrow for this district.
District Three (Semifinals hosted by Telluride HS)
The District Three Semifinals will be held on Friday 2/23 at Telluride HS. The semifinals will be #1 Mancos vs #4 Dolores @5:30pm and #2 Telluride vs #3 Ridgway @8:30pm. We will have a more in-depth update posted tomorrow for this district.
District Four (Semifinals hosted by Platte Valley HS)
The first semifinal will feature #1 Heritage Christian vs #5 Dayspring Christian @5pm. Heritage Christian received a bye into the semifinal. Dayspring Christian advanced into the semifinal pulling the road upset of #4 Poudre Community 70 to 61. Heritage Christian faced Dayspring Christian back in January with Heritage Christian winning big 57 to 21. Heritage Christian was led by Levi Hermsen in the game scoring 12 points and Dayspring Christian was led by Owen Mcclanahan with 7 points. Heritage Christian is a lock for regionals sitting at #5 in the Seeding Index. Dayspring Christian is sitting at #44 and would need to win the District Tournament to get into regionals.
The second semifinal will feature #2 Loveland Classical against #3 Union Colony Prep at 8pm. Loveland Classical was dominate in the opening round defeating Nederland 69 to 19. Union Colony Prep also took care of business defeating Twin Peaks Charter 71 to 50. Loveland Classical faced Union Colony Prep back in January. Loveland Classical won the game 92 to 32 but had to forfeit the game. Loveland Classical was led by Caedon Meyer who scored 23 points and Union Colony Prep was led by Josiah Rodriguez with 16 points. Loveland Classical is a lock for regional sitting at #18 in the Seeding Index. Union Colony Prep is sitting at #42 in the Seeding Index. They would also need to win the District Tournament to get to regionals.
The Championship will be played on 2/24 at 5:30pm at Platte Valley HS.
District Five (Higher Seed Hosts Quarterfinals)
The District Five Semifinals will be held on Friday 2/23 at De Beque HS. The semifinals will be #1 Plateau Valley vs #4 Hayden @4:30pm and #2 Vail Mountain vs #3 Vail Christian @7:30pm. We will have a more in-depth update posted tomorrow for this district.
District Six (Higher Seed Hosts Quarterfinals)
Semifinal #1 features E#1 Crowley County vs W#2 Walsenburg at 5:30pm at La Junta HS. Crowley County advanced into the semifinal with 69 to 35 win over Swallows Charter. Walsenburg advanced into the semifinal with a win over Las Animas 70 to 55. Crowley County last played Walsenburg back in December with Crowley County winning 68 to 18. Crowley County was led by Gunner Hughes who scored 20 points in the game and Walsenburg was led by Elton Chavez who had 9 points in the loss. Crowley County and Walsenburg are both locks for the regional field. Crowley County sits at #3 and Walsenburg is at #15.
The other semifinal in District Six should be a good one. W#1 Fowler will battle E#2 Holly @8:30pm at La Junta HS. Fowler was able to defeat rival Swink 41 to 28 to move into the semifinals. Holly took care of business against a desperate Hoehne team 67 to 54 to move into the semifinal. Fowler and Holly last squared off January 6th with Fowler taking the 47 to 33 win over Holly. Fowler was led by Gage Gottbehuet who scored 22 while Holly was led by Truman King who scored 14 points.
The Championship Round (Championship & 3rd Place Game) will be at La Junta HS at 11:30am (3rd Place) & 2:30pm (Championship)
District 7
The District Seven Semifinals will be held on Friday 2/23 at Dakota Ridge HS. The semifinals will be #1 Denver Christian vs #5 Front Range Christian @8:30pm and #2 Golden View Classical vs #3 Addenbrooke Classical @5:30pm. We will have a more in-depth update posted tomorrow for this district.
District 8 (Higher Seed hosts Quarterfinals)
The District Eight semifinals will be held on Friday 2/23 at Kiowa HS. The semifinals will be #1 Simla vs #4 Byers @8:30pm and #2 Limon vs #3 Burlington @5:30pm. We will have a more in-depth update posted tomorrow for this district.
Class 2A Girls Daily Digest

District 1 – Hosted at Centauri
#1 Monte Vista beat #9 Custer County 55-7 and will face #4 Del Norte who beat #5 Trinidad 41-32. The last time Monte Vista and Del Norte faced off, Monte Vista won 44-37. Monte Vista was led in scoring by Heysenny Beltran who scored 14 points and Del Norte was led by Baylie Layman who scored 10 points in the loss. Monte Vista is a lock for regionals sitting at #7 in the seeding index. Del Norte is close to the bubble at #25 but I think in very good shape to reach the regional field.
The second semifinal will feature #2 Sanford vs #3 Sargent. #2 Sanford beat Cotopaxi 37-24 to move into the semifinal. Sargent pulled the win out against Center 50-39 to move into the semifinal. In the previous game between these two teams, Sanford beat Sargent 39-26. Sanford had three girls scoring 9 points in the win Brinlyn Smith, Claire Crowther, and Brooklyn Reynolds. Sargent was led by Bailey Asbell who scored 12 points. Both Sargent and Sanford are locks for regionals. Sanford sits at #9 and Sargent sits at #16.
The winner of these games will face one another in the District championship on Saturday 2/24 at Centauri HS.
District 2
The District Two semifinals will be held on 2/23 at NJC. The matchups will be #1 Merino vs #4 Akron @4pm and #2 Sedgwick County vs #3 Wiggins @7pm. We will have a more in-depth breakdown for this district posted tomorrow.
District 3
The District Three semifinals will be held on 2/23 at Telluride HS. The matchups will be #1 Mancos vs #4 Telluride @4pm and #2 Ridgway vs #3 Dolores @7pm. We will have a more in-depth breakdown for this district posted tomorrow.
District 4 – Hosted at Platte Valley High School
#5 Union Colony Prep was able to pull out the win in a close game against #4 Twin Peaks Charter 54-51. Madison Walter scored 16 points, Soliana Gebremskel scored 15 points, and Jaelynn Valdez scored 15 points to help clinch the win. Now they will face #1 Dayspring Christian today to try to make it to the the district championship. The last time these teams met, DCA got the win 71-34 and Eboselulu Omofoma from DCA scores 32 points to help get the win. Dayspring Christian is a lock for regionals sitting at #12. Union Colony Prep is sitting at #44 and would need to win the district tournament to get to regionals.
#3 Loveland Classical beat #6 Poudre Community 67-20. They will now move on to face #2 Heritage Christian. Heritage Christian received a bye to move into the semifinals. These teams have yet to meet this season, but the winner will move onto the district championship. Heritage Christian is a lock for regionals sitting at #14. Loveland Classical is on the bubble at #27. A loss puts their fate on the Seeding Index and a win would lock them in.
The District championship will be played between the winner of these two games on 2/24 at Platte Valley High School.
District 5
The District Five semifinals will be held on 2/23 at De Beque HS. The matchups will be #1 Rangely vs #4 Hayden @3pm and #2 Plateau Valley vs #3 West Grand @6pm. We will have a more in-depth breakdown for this district posted tomorrow.
District 6 – Hosted at Ja Lunta High School
E#1 Las Animas was able to get the win over #4 Walsenburg 73-6 where Chanel LaBarge scores 21 points to lead the team to victory. They will be facing W#2 Fowler who beat #3 Swink 61-28 where Andrea Maestas scored 26 points to secure the win. The last time these teams faced one another, Las Animas beat Fowler 45-36. High scorers of that game were Jadann Eck from Las animas with 14 points, and Andrea Maestas from Fowler with 20 points. Las Animas and Fowler are both locks for regionals. Las Animas sits at #20 and Fowler sits at #19 improving your seed is on the line.
E#2 Crowley County was able to get the win over #3 Swallows Charter 46-9 and they will be facing W#1 Hoehne who beat #4 Holly 72-36 where Ellegra Gutierrez scored 18 points to help secure the win. The last time these teams met, Hoehne beat Crowley County 58-9 where Phoenix San Roman from Hoehne scored 16 points and Alexis Rusher from Crowley County scored 5 points. Hoehne is a lock for regionals sitting inside the top 8 of the seeding index. Crowley County is on the bubble sitting at #28.
The winner of these games will face each other in the district 6 championship at La Junta High School on 2/24.
District 7
